Branislav Ivanovic - Your Views?

Featured Replies

Decision making was better tonight and he made a couple of decent contributions going forward. He's starting to look more like the old Ivanovic in his physical presence, yet seems completely and utterly hopeless against any winger with any semblance of pace who will run at him, which was basically responsible for the opening goal. In addition, he is a small fraction of the leader that John Terry is. This is becoming a very serious problem.

Shocking tonight, gets roasted every single time against a pacey winger and his attacking contribution is poor with woeful crosses.

Love Ivan to bits but it's time Jose gave him a break and gave us more balance with Dave and Baba

Got done for pace for the first goal then misjudged the ball which ends up as the corner which led to the second goal, of course it's not just his fault for the second one but he has a hand in so many of our goals conceded this season it's getting really painful watching him now.

I don't even think their left winger who roasted him tonight plays their regularly, I think he's a right winger who was moved over there because they knew he could isolate him. If Porto could see this then why couldn't Mourinho? It's either stupidity or blatant stubbornness

Probably a question for someone who knows more about the youth/reserve teams- but who are our back up right and left backs at youth level? I've seen the name Aina bandied around, as well as Jay daSilva. If José doesn't seem to trust Baba, do any of these have the quality to make it in the next year??

On another note, hindsight is always 20/20, but selling Bertrand looks like a bit of an error now. Decent left back and would allow Dave to play in his natural position.

He has taken his poor form to new lows in that half. And I didn't think that was possible. José probably believes he is doing the right thing leaving him on. One look at Ivans' face would tell you he doesn't want to be out there. It is bordering on cruelty playing him every week.

Well, we've now dropped JT, Matic, Oscar, Hazard and Willian and played without Costa and Courtois. Somehow, this doesn''t appear to have stopped the rot. I wonder who we can drop now to help the team recover some semblance of form, solidity and shape. There must be a couple of others we could try dropping to see if it makes a difference.

I've refrained from joining in the criticism of Ivanovic this season, which probably explains why Jose hasn't dropped him.

Jose, it's Davey Baby, enough's enough.

Put us all out of our misery.

It isn't just the ease he is beat one on one, which is now laughable for a top tier defender. His strength in the air with misplaced unchallenged headers is now in question too, add to that his abysmal crossing ability. What more can we say .... first name on the team sheet for Saturday.

There isn't anything left to say that hasn't already been said, it's just bad performance after bad performance with no end in sight. He must be dropped, but Mourinho isn't having any of it.

I'm just tired of talking about Ivanovic, it's a ridiculous situation. I hope he call in sick on Friday and rules himself out for the weekend, because Jose will not drop him until he get the sack.

Well, the fans will have to live with it as Ivanovic will always be a starter as long as Mourinho is manager of Chelsea FC. They better pray that his contract is allowed to run down and not renewed next summer.

Ivanovic has been great in the past, I don't buy that he's never been a good defender, he's been an excellent player for us, in fact when his career is over, we may look back on him as a legend. However, I cannot believe Jose is persisting with him, it's clear to everyone that he's lost it.

He has never been a very good defender. At most he has been adequate defensively and made up for it with goals.

How many full backs are there in world football of his build?

The simple fact of the matter is that had he been a good defender he wouldn't have spent the vast majority of his career playing right back.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jose is including him intentionally to highlight the shortcomings of our current squad. This would certainly give him the ability to negotiate a better transfer budget...

Or help him negotiate a big pay out when he get booted next week?

If Jose wanted a right back, he could have gone after Clyne ( who didn't cost liverpool that much), home grown player too. I think it's his arrogance and pride again, rather get sacked than admitting the wrong.

Nonsense. He was a very good defender he just was never anything special going forward.

It'd be incredibly short-sighted of him to protest against the board by playing a sh*t player every week so I doubt that's his intention. Although you never know with Mourinho.
