Andre Schurrle

Featured Replies

It has to be said his performances to date have been mixed.

He's only played 762 minutes in the EPL, that equates to 8.4 games, he's played the full 90 mins in only one match. But he still managed 6 goals including a hat-trick, all good goals as well, compare Eto'o hat-trick to Schurrle hat-trick and you'll see what I mean.

He's definitely going to the World Cup. And he also reminds me of Thomas Muller, if he can become the next Thomas Muller I can see a lot of trophies going Chelsea's way.

The finishing for his goals was excellent, just that of a clinical striker! I know he missed a few other chances, but he was always there to take them unlike Torres who always ends up in the wrong position.

I would be keen to see Schurrle start as our main CF, although I'm not sure it's something Mourinho would try again this late in the season especially after it failed in the United game at Old Trafford. Unless we have our sites on a world class CF for next season we could do much worse than using what we already have.

Not been Schurrle's biggest fan as a winger. But the second half made me think maybe he isn't a winger.

Look at the second goal very closely. Watch

Schurrle's movement and contrast it with Torres. Tell us what you see.

Perhaps we do have a centre forward after all?

Don't take it weirdly, but I thought of you as soon as I saw those two goals. The difference in movement is like comparing chalk and cheese.

Schurrle was awful in that first half, completely and utterly poor. He was a totally different player on the right-hand side of the midfield, however.

The only problem with him playing at centre-forward is that our at times overly-direct play means that Schurrle would be playing back-to-goal more often than on the wing, which does not suit him at all. The flipside is that someone with Schurrle's movement and pace means that we could afford to play a more possession-based game more often, because we would have someone moving quickly and dragging defenders out of position.

Hazard and Schurrle complement each other, both on and off the field, they talk highly of each other.

Everyone wants the team built around Hazard, Andre is a player that Eden can work with, I think it's a partnership that is looking very very promising.

He's also only 23... new country, new league....

I still have certain reservations because I still think he looks a striker more then a winger and don't believe Jose will play him there. When you think about what we have coming through, Torgan, best attacking player in Belgium at the moment, The boy at Benfica who is clearly highly rates, Piazon and salah still to really intergrate, the wide positions are still ultra competative

He has always been a good finisher, but Hazard, Willian and Oscar have him licked in all other areas. And I'm a bigger fan of Salah than Schurrle, simply because he's quicker and better technically. Shurrle is still a very good option to have, especially with Oscar's form as it is - something different for the oppo to be concerned about.

Schurrle: 6 goals in 20 appearances, only 8 starts in the league.

Willian: 2 goals and 1 assist in 18 appearances, 13 of those as starts in the league.

I've said it before on the forum and I will say it again, out of the two Schurrle offers more of an attacking threat. Considering we have struggled for goals at times this season I've been surprised that he hasn't had more playing time.

I'm still an advocate of William platinum deeper, his speed work rate and ability on the ball would make him an excellent center mid in My opinion

I have felt very sorry for Shurrle at times, as he has been completely shut out up until last week. He hasn't featured at all in about 7 or 8 games! Then when he came on he hasn't been his best, probably trying to hard to impress rather than just be average and unnoticed.

It could prove to be a tactical move by Jose, because he's come in now with a point to prove and fire in his belly.

He's clearly deserving of a start at the weekend and I think given time, he can get more big goals for us.

Lets hope he keeps it up - if he does he will have forced his way in, because a big goal scorer is what we are crying out for.

If we get someone else scoring a lot goals I think it will make Hazard even better as there will be less pressure on him to do so in every match.

Because Hazard wasn't the main goal threat at the weekend he was able to work his magic from deeper and in the wide areas, he still has a claim for being man of the match against Fulham because he set up Schurrle's first two goals superbly and could have had a third assist for his outrageous cross to the back post of Torres.

He's always going to look to weigh in with a goal but he showed this weekend that when he can't get through on goal himself he can exploit the space for the other attacking players to take advantage... Schurrle's smart movement during the second half meant we captilised on Hazard's brilliance.

It is good timing really, Oscar Willian and Hazard have all looked tired recently. Some fresh legs coming in can only be a good thing. As fantastic Oscar can be i do think he needs some time off. We have Schurrle and Salah waiting for a chance so we have options. I know its a bad time to be tinkering as we are not on the final run in but tired legs wont win games.

Just play him up top, his finishing is good and he makes great runs.

If we persist in Willain then this would be my plan especially as Torres is our better choice up top and he's hardly striking fear into the oposition defence.

He's not bad defensively either, Willian puts himself about more granted but Schurrle fills in gaps very well and is good at pressuring. He's even done a good job at LB when he's played there.

A mid 3 of Matic, Ramires and Willian does sound good on paper.

I agree, the argument I keep seeing for Willian is that he has a good work rate and tracks back well.... From what I've seen of Schurrle for Chelsea so far, I think he does that role quite well as well.

But for, more importantly, Schurrle looks more threatening in the final third of the pitch, he sets up better chances and has better finishing.

He's actually looked best when playing as a 2nd striker for us, he played in that sort of role against Stoke away and also looked to be in those sorts of positions for the 2nd half against Fulham at the weekend.

Maybe that's where he might feature for from now on? Although I'm not sure Jose would give up on Oscar playing in the number 10 role just yet but based on form, Schurrle should start against Spurs.

Someone posted a quote from Schurrle on the Salah thread recently about Jose telling him to put on some muscle mass before he'd give him a regular run in the team, and now that he has that Jose is prepared to give him more game time.

If that is the case then perhaps this has been the plan all along.

I prefer Matic, Willian and Luiz... I just don't think we keep the ball well enough when Rami is playing Luiz is probably the best passer out of the 3 as well

Willian works hard, but I doubt he'd do well in CM. He'd be basically the same as Ramires, except less defensive ability.

It'd be pretty amazing if Schurrle goes on a scoring streak from here on out until the end of the season and ends up winning us the league.

Who'd have seen that coming?

He's much better on the ball then Rami.. and I don't know that he worse defensivly

I have said since Stoke away that he should be in the team and that considering our lack of goals up front he could be the answer, purely on those 2 finishes at Stoke.

All he needed was some faith, give him more time and he will shine.
