February 1, 201412 yr Unfortunately, I've seen little to suggest that Mourinho will give any of our youngsters a chance. Baker got 2 minutes against Derby. Doubt he'll see any more minutes this season and to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if Zouma was loaned about for a couple of seasons and then ultimately sold for profit. It's understandable that we need to make our money somewhere, but I don't like how we're going about it. Perhaps in time, Mourinho will give our youngsters a chance so we can become more self sufficient. If we're making large profits off players like Mata and KDB then using those profits to buy actual first team players and to invest in more profitable youngsters, then are we not being self sufficient?
July 10, 201412 yr I have a feeling he will play a lot of games, looks like a solid and mature defender from what I've seen of him, I think Mourinho will love him.
July 11, 201412 yr I still want him to be given a chance this season rather than the rumoured loan to Sunderland, surely he's good enough as 3rd/4th choice centre back.

July 11, 201412 yr He should prove his worth out on loan like Kalas and Omuero have done. They deserve a place above him.

July 11, 201412 yr Disagree sorry gents. Zouma has been playing at a higher level than those guys consistently for a couple of seasons now. He's physically bigger and will cope better than Kalas for example who might struggle against the more physical opponents.
July 11, 201412 yr Realistically though, Zouma will be above them, as he cost £12m. Since when did Money have absolutely anything to do with a player being above someone in the pecking order? Once a transfer fee is paid it should be based purely on quality.

Not sure about Kalas but Omeruo has exhibited more intelligence of the game than Zouma has. Zouma to me seems to be mainly brawn and little brain to be fair. No slouch at all in terms of strength too wrt Omeruo Omeruo is also a CB for his NT which has played against a lot of great teams too soo... Edited July 11, 201412 yr by MANoWAR
July 11, 201412 yr Maybe Mourinho thinks Zouma is ahead of those guys and thinks he is ready for first team football.

July 11, 201412 yr He's a beast! Good to see were adding strength and power to go along with all our small play makers. Perfect balance
July 11, 201412 yr He should prove his worth out on loan like Kalas and Omuero have done. They deserve a place above him. We only have 2 centre backs as it is and if we sign another then we diminish the chances all together of Kalas, Zouma and Omeuro playing. To be fair Zouma looks much better than Kalas and Omeuro (don't know how to spell his name) he played a lot of consistent football for Saint Ettiente at the age of 17. He already understands the game, he has the discipline and the maturity, something David Luiz seriously lacked and still does. I really think he can play and perform, look what Mourinho did with Varane at Real Madrid, no one thought he was ready but boom he was playing every important game there was and he certainly wasn't disappointing. I never said we should sign another one? Although that brings up a point of mine as to why i think we should have kept Kalas, he does a good job at both RB and CB and we could have Ivan soley used at CB. I don't think he looks much better at all. He's the same as Omeuro, both have experience playing at the top flight but one has more hype than the other. You're giving his mental attribtues far too much credit, he lacks the brains and will make stupid decisions. You're making him sound like Varane or something. Speaking of which, Varane and Zouma aren't even comparable, Varane was infintely more talented. No one said he wasn't ready cause he was being mentioned as one of the finest CB's to come out of France, they were worried that he wouldn't get game time.
July 11, 201412 yr Varane's the best defensive talent France have produced since Gallas. Zouma is very raw in comparison but has the potential to be just as good especially as part of a unit.

I know, my point was what is the point in loaning him if we only have 2 centre backs? It doesn't really make much sense does it. How old was Varane when he got his first start for Madrid? 19? No one knew of him until he started playing. It's unfair to just say that Varane is miles ahead of Zouma because Varane has had the chance to play in top flight football Zouma hasn't yet.

Varane will be miles ahead of Gallas in a year or two. As for Zouma, I like to compare him to Lillian Thuram (potentially).

My intial point was that we shouldn't have loaned out Kalas and/or Omeruo in the first place. Now that we have loaned out Kalas then yes, we should keep Zouma because we don't have many CB's left. I was talking about Varane during his time in France, he was miles better than Zouma.

I wouldn't say miles better though, but I think I know what you mean I won't clutch straws at the saying. But you can't deny Zoumas ability or potential for that matter, he was playing very good at such a young age, yes he made mistakes but what do you expect, he was 17-18 playing in a league that is probably in the top 5 best leagues in the world. It's a Mourinho signing me thinks! So I wouldn't be surprised to see him getting quite a bit of games this season, if he went out on loan I would be dissapointed, because that would also mean we are going to buy a centre back since we can't just have 2 for a full season even if we have Ivanovic.
July 12, 201412 yr Not going to pretend I have seen much from Zouma at all, but the couple of games I did see I was not impressed. He looks extremely talented physically, but his mental attributes seems to be lacking and I fear we have another David luiz type defender on our hands

July 12, 201412 yr Looks like he will crush some bones this boy. Without the amazing freekick he reminds me of Alex. Big, strong lad with one thing in mind; clear the ball away from the box. If youtube is to be believed the boy is not the best with the ball in his feet. But because Jose is a percentages man in the sense of result alone Zouma fits the bill.
