Nemanja Matic - Great Player?

Featured Replies

Ivan did make a deal of it. You don't roll around and then get back up two seconds later like everything is ok.

Stop being so precious.

Yet nobody mentioned it when Can was 'stamped' on...

Fair enough, what we've got to remember is, is Tha Jonathan Pearce is a useless c**t who has been stealing a living impersonating a footballing commentator for years.

That he is probably best remembered for being the bloke who commentated on Robot Wars tells you all you need to know about him.

Your to young to remember him on Capital Gold F.C.. Totally different to what he is now he used to do scream like a psychotic

banshee when someone scored. He was totally biased towards Arsenal and generally gave us much insight into football as the average unlicensed mini cab driver does with directions when you tell him where you live.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

You roll around on the floor, two or three times and then get up in a instant like everything is OK. That's milking it.

Im just saying how pundits always try and nit pick chelsea but never the other teams. It always seems like they want to find blame on us which im sick of.

true, but since the ref isnt reacting what should he have done instead? ran over to barnes and shoved him?

José's four incidents:

Ovrebo all over again.

Do not know if it is the gif or not but the Costa pen appeal seems very soft to me from that video.

Otherwise the foul on Matic is...I mean wow, how that ends up without even a card is very hard to swallow.

Wayne Routledge given red card for reacting to Karl Henry challenge

Swansea manager Garry Monk criticised referee Anthony Taylor

FA confirm Routledge red card rescinded on Friday evening

Swansea winger Wayne Routledge has successfully appealed against the red card he was shown against QPR on New Year’s Day and will face no further punishment.

Routledge was sent off for his reaction to a strong tackle from Karl Henry in the 86th minute of the 1-1 draw, with Henry booked for the challenge.

The dismissal had left Routledge facing a three-match ban but that has been lifted after his appeal was upheld.

Very interesting that there is precedent for this, a lot more hopeful now that Matic could actually get the ban rescinded.

As I've mentioned in the other thread. Matic is well within his rights to respond like that. People claiming he should stop and rationalise clearly haven't played football where when adrenaline's pumping around your body you choose fight or flight in situations like that. He felt an opposing player not trying to win the ball, not trying to be aggressive but attempting to injure him. A challenge like that does end up with a broken leg more often than not. Watch the videos you can see the pressure on Matic's leg!! So please before you label him selfish or stupid use a bit of inititative and understand why he reacted as he did.

yep looks like a jumping side kick IMHO - look how barnes bends his knee, like it was a loading action & then release his foot into Brana's leg w/ full force

Honestly this could have been a straight red.

I know & you know Matic knew this too when he got done by barnes - after watching the replays you could see Matic lose it as barnes walked away like nothing happened - was a foul even called on the play? I can't remember now after all of the turmoil that took place after that play.

Looking at the play-by-play there was no foul called on Barnes.  I am going to totally get flamed with saying this, but the foul on Matic looked bad, but I don't think it was as intentional as everybody is making it out to be.  Barnes is in the process of passing the ball and his follow through ends up planting on Matic's leg.

His foul on Ivanovic should have been a straight red though.  He clearly cocks his leg and extends it full force into Ivanovic.

Missed a similar one on Zouma. That c**t Barnes was out to hurt people instead of playing football.

I don't think it was intentional at all.

It was however, utterly reckless.  A professional player needs to be able to control his body in a situation like that and with the speed today's game is played at, there has quite rightly been a huge clampdown on anything which involves the studs coming up.

Still shocked Matic didn't just take a swing at him. That was a dirty, dirty foul and i said in the game thread if that had happened and I was on the field Barnes woulda had his jaw broken. That's why we have refs. If Atkinson calls this game properly it's 3-0 and Barnes is at least on a yellow when he fouls Maric and gets his marching orders.

Matic is taking a lot of stick today from some folks but players shouldn't be put in that position, refs are supposed to do their jobs to make sure they're notz

This, if the ref isn't going to defend you you have to take matters in to your own hands....I'm firmly in the camp where by matic was to mild

He could have stopped that follow through if he wanted to, he deliberately followed with the intention of causing Matic harm. His reaction after gives him away also as he just turns away and jogs off.

Anybody disappointed with the way Matic reacted needs a reality check.

Would love to see how you would react if somebody was to commit a vile act - and that's what it was- that threatened your career, your livelihood.

I hope and pray Burnely goes down and Barnes suffers a serious injury.

He's a vile thug.

Didn't see the game. That tackle is horrible. Absolutely awful. Matic should have controlled himself better there but Barnes needs to be suspended for 3 matches.

This is exactly why this is so two faced and f**ked up. This game teaches children all the wrong things. That Matic push is a reaction for a horrible tackle and he gets the punishment..what does that teach to anyone?!?

If I was Matic I most certainly wouldn't run up to Barnes shove him over resulting in an instant red card. I more likely would've ran over to the ref to protest. As bad as the tackle was, you still have to use your head. In matics case, a potential leg breaker doesn't give you the right to react in a way that gets you sent off. You have a responsibility to help your team.

You didn't see Ivanovic or Zouma get up to shove Barnes did you? When Cahill stepped on Sanchez you didn't see any rage backlash from fhe Arsenal player. Dirty challenges like Barnes happen every week, they are far from acceptable but you just don't react. It's not like Barnes was standing over Matic either, he ran enough distance to realise his reaction was wrong.

If we lose this title in May, this will be one of the games where we screwed up through a lack of mental toughness.
