Paul Pogba - Needs to Sign!

Featured Replies

I didn't expect RLC to become a regular this season in any case.

If we signed Pogba when would you expect RLC to become a regular?

Never, is the short answer.

I still have high hopes for RLC even if we get Pogba. Rather have him then Mikel (no starting another anti Mikel thread!)

If he proves himself good enough then who knows.

Right now Jose does not trust him enough to do the job he feels needs done next to Matic.

He could easily become another Josh McEachran who was also widely regarded as the next big thing and following in JT's footsteps. Sometimes for whatever reason it doesn't happen.

RLC will get games this season regardless if Pogba comes or not IMO, it's his job to impress and grab those opportunities. Losing Ramires would have him in the same position as the start of this season should Pogba arrive. He will still be behind 3 players.

we should go for a cheaper option who will actually leave us with some resources. the one thing pogba would give us is, someone who will shoot from distance, other than that we should turn our attention elsewhere. i don't see barcelona spending so much on pogba when they've just bought arda turan, they also have rafinha and samper waiting in the wings and those two, especially the former have been given high praise and is a la masia (i believe) youth product, which barca prides themselves on. colkett can also be a brilliant player if given the chance, so we've no need to spend out this money on pogba; so frustrating!

yeah, but 70 million could buy us two solid midfielders! i can't see how us paying out that much (as well as money for stones) won't have an affect on us financially.

Wonder if we have a plan B, who is next in Jose' pecking order of DMs??

In hindsight, Sami Khedira may have been an astute signing, particularly given he was free..

Who is there who we can buy though?

Pogba is better than some of the names mentioned like Witsel.

I think the new sponsorship deals have given us some financial clout to play with plus we were going on FFP for a few seasons and not spending big compared to what we brought in sales wise.

If FFP is no issue then Roman can spend how he wishes IMO, I do feel the press and twitter 'journalists' are guessing on fees though.

If not Pogba, then the amount we are prepared to sp*nk up for him, no real midfielder is out of iur range, 60 mill for Verratti, or a huge bid for Koke, Kroos et al??

Let's hope this means whatever happens by window closes will have a world class added to the squad.

roma player "naiggolan" who is a real fighter type player, uses aggressive style of play to boss the midfield and i like that, that's what we need. i dunno his price, but roma bought him relatively cheap a couple seasons back so now i reckon, with some top negotiating, we could get him for around 30 million pound. then we could get someone like witsel or even go for marchisio of juve if they won't let go of pogba. we are going after pogba at such a high price when we could buy more than one player for that price. we give them rami and cuadrao, plus a small amount of cash for marchisio and then buy naiggolan for the aforemention price or a bit more and bam! we have two solid centre mids. even go for moutinho and strike a deal with monaco.

I think the most sensible solution to our CM issues would be to wait. Against the better sides we can still play Mikel or Ramires next to Matic, it's not ideal but this is still a serviceable setup. Against lesser opposition, especially at home, Matic and Fabregas should be fine.

Then next summer I would make Koke our no.1 target, and look someone like Nainggolan at Roma as an alternative. Both are much better fits for our pivot than Pogba in terms of their defensive and tactical abilities.

Presumably if we were to sign Pogba we'd go for a 4-3-3; it would bring out the best in both Fabregas and Pogba, as well as giving our defence the extra cover they clearly need. Bad news for Oscar and Willian though...

I personally would stick with 4-2-3-1 and play Oscar in the no.10 role over Fabregas, but both interchanging over the course of the season.

Willian would get decent match time in rotation with Pedro and Hazard

To be fair all our squad will be getting  decent game time this season with refs handing out red cards like confetti

Football hipster minds explode everywhere.

I would love to have pogba! He is a great talent and would solidify out midfield. But again this is just another example that promoted youth will never play here. If I were a chelsea youth player I would be asking for a transfer as soon as I was 21. No point in wasting years here. RLC could very well be a pogba type player but chelsea will never know. To be honest, the youth policy is disgraceful at this club

Well, in fairness, Loftus Cheek had his chance to shine in pre season and didn't Mourinho say he wasn't happy with his attitude to those games? Any young player should be taking those chances and trying to make the most out of them, if he had done that then we might have seen him already this season. We can't blame the club if the players just don't have it. How many of our so called prospects from the academy have gone on to do anything? McEachran was a waste of space, Chalobah hasn't been able to cut it, there's a multitude of others too that people were touting as the best prospect from our academy since JT, but they've all gone on to accomplish precisely dick since they left us. If a player is good enough, they'll get the chance, or they'll move on. The only one that has really stepped up since he left us is Bertrand, and Bamford looks like he has potential to break into the team if he has a good season with palace, since there's a real shortage of good strikers out there. If RLC is good enough, then he'll get into the team. There's plenty of games to go around and he's only 19. An injury to Matic and there's his chance, even if we have Pogba. I hate all this negativity towards our youth system when it's obvious most of the players just aren't good enough to play at the top level. We are a top 5 club in the world, of course it's going to be hard to break into the team.

For comparison

Barca adopted the Dutch philosophy out of Ajax to their Academy in the mid 70s had Cruyff in the team. 40 yrs later the rest is a successful history. Plus they have a B team in the lower leagues for stronger development competition.

Roman ramped up Chelsea's just over 10 yrs ago, at various U-21 youth levels CFC are now winning trophies. It may take a few more years to transition one,two or more success stories into the 1st team squad. That's life , patience is a virtue apparently.

So, twitter rumours and photos of Ramires in Turin today.....hmmm.....

Could be old pictures, could be Juve agreed a fee with us for him during the Pogba talks.

Now if we see pics of Oscar in Turin that are from Today or yesterday that could be interesting.
