Filipe Luis to Chelsea... and Back Again.

Featured Replies

Quaresma was one hell of a player for Porto though, i was excited that we had signed him.

It just all went down hill for him once he went to Inter.

Quaresma actually played well for us in the games he played.

I thought he gave us the width we were craving for at the time, but he wasn't favored at all.

Pinched from The Times:

Chelsea have stepped up their attempts to secure a replacement for Ashley Cole, who signed a two-year contract at AS Roma yesterday, by making an increased bid of £15 million to Atlético Madrid for Filipe Luís.

The Brazilian left back has been José Mourinho’s preferred candidate to replace Cole for several months and a £12 million bid has already been rejected by Atlético, with the Spanish club refusing to let him leave for less than the £19 million buyout clause in his contract.

Chelsea’s tortuous negotiations with Atlético over Diego Costa, who completed his much anticipated £32 million move to Stamford Bridge last week, suggests they should return with an improved offer that matches Filipe’s exit clause or pursue alternative targets.

Mourinho has presented a list of several suitable candidates to Chelsea’s board, which includes Marcos Rojo, the Argentina defender who plays for Sporting Lisbon, and Alberto Moreno, of Seville, players who have also interested Liverpool. Chelsea could reduce the competition by cutting their asking price for Ryan Bertrand, who is also on Liverpool’s wanted list, but Filipe remains their focus.

Atlético are refusing to negotiate, however, and there is growing resentment in the Spanish capital over what is perceived as hostile attempts to break up Diego Simeone’s La Liga-winning side on the cheap. In addition to Costa, Thibaut Courtois, the Belgium goalkeeper, will be at Chelsea next season after three years on loan at Atlético, while their beaten opponents in last season’s Champions League semi-final have also inquired about Koke and Tiago Mendes, the midfield players .

All of Atlético’s players have buyout clauses written into their contracts, which the club regard as non-negotiable, a stance that has brought them some success — even during this difficult summer. Atlético have successfully repelled attempts from Chelsea and Barcelona to sign Koke, who last month signed a new five-year contract at the club, while Juanfran, the right back, signed a new four-year deal.

Cole’s future was finally resolved yesterday when he signed a two-year contract at Roma, a deal that also gives the club the option of extending his stay in the Italian capital by a further season. The 33-year-old will earn £70,000 a week in Rome as he opted to continue playing at the highest level for as long as possible rather than accept more lucrative offers from Major League Soccer and the Far East.

Cole feels he has something to prove after being a bit-part player at Chelsea last season and retiring from international football last May after his omision from Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad.

Upon his arrival in Italy yesterday morning Roma posted a photo on their official Twitter feed with the message: “Welcome to Rome, Ashley!” before he underwent a medical at the club’s Trigoria training headquarters.

“AS Roma have acquired Ashley Cole’s playing registration on a two-year deal which expires on June 30, 2016,” a club statement read. “The agreement also gives the club the right to extend the contract into a further season.”

Cole left Arsenal in May 2006 as part of a deal that saw William Gallas move in the opposite direction to north London. In eight years at Chelsea he won the Champions League, Europa League, Premier League and four FA Cups, as well as continuing a record-breaking international career that ended with 107 England caps, the most ever won by a full back.

Cole will join a club on the up after Roma improved from sixth to second in Serie A last season, following the appointment of Rudi Garcia as coach 12 months ago, to return to the Champions League.

Roma led the table in the early part of the season after winning ten consecutive games, but they faltered after Christmas, finishing second to Juventus, who overhauled them to go on and secure a third straight Scudetto.

Did you mean Mineiro? We had him in our grasp but alas we let him get away. Great shame.

He looks like they've called the caretaker up to hold up a shirt for the cameras.

Zenit Saint Petersburg have reportedly reached an agreement with Atlético Madrid for Argentine left-back, Cristian Ansaldi, who will join initially on loan for the season.

2nd left back signing of the summer for Atletico, surely only a matter of time now before the Luis deal is finalised.

Rob Beasley who i think is a good source saying that Filipe Luis will sign. Price could be 20 millions depending on clauses.

If the bonuses are trophey related, why not!

Chelsea should never do business with them again. Atletico brought the Courtois/CL agreement out in public knowing that they will get support from UEFA and the public, they kept acting as though he's their player even though he's under contract at Chelsea, then they tried to get Costa to sign an improved contract to raise his buyout clause, and now this.

20m ... for a player with little or no resale value and considering FFP ... poor transfer IMO ...

looks like Jose is going for bust if he buys an old Tiago too?

our youth buying policy is clearly being overlooked as Jose's going for broke this year ...
