Gareth Bale to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Madrid will want their money back plus he will want big wages, probably more than hazard, can't see it

I think we can afford the transfer fee, but the wages will be a problem. I don't see our establshed stars beeing content with Bale earning almost twice as much and I don't think Bale wants to take a pay cut.

Do you think Hazard would be open to playing CAM/RAM instead? Because, for me, Bale is best on the left side - and it's not close.

(best on the left side in comparison to himself in other positions - not in comparison to hazard)

I think he will go, other player could do his job, the fans don't like him, president not too fussed, and who knows they may have their eyes on the next big thing already. He's not worth 75M and could be over rated, but he score goals. I could see us playing Hazard/Willian/Bale behind Costa to blow team off the park, then put Ramires on for Bale to see out the game. I honestly think since we have the money ( with a few sell), he's worth it. There's no point getting a 20M player, we got too many already.

We can afford him, but I don't think we can win a bidding war with United. They not only have greater resources but have a greater need for not just a brilliant player, but an impactful signing.

We're not paupers by any means and the Yokohama deal would go a long way to financing this one without factoring in the effect of signing him, but it's a massive financial commitment that (on current wages) would cost about £26-30 million in each of the next 5 seasons.

It would be Luke Shaw all over again.

Yeah we probably could have matched the £30m fee but then we'd have had to essentially break the wage structure of the club to complete the signing.

I could see the same for Bale, if he were to be available then United, us and maybe City would all be interested but United above anyone else would be able to offer £300k a week or more in wages without even blinking.

I feel the signing of Gareth Bale could be the catalyst to Premiership domination to the scale of Manchester United under the Fergie years.

I feel we have been 'burnt' by the purchase of Torres and despite the 'genius' of Mourinho in bringing in Matic, Fabregas and Costa to turn us into Champions in just two seasons of his return I feel we have to move for one more time for 'that' player to make a huge difference away from the 25-35 million bracket.

Arsenal have done it, maybe Sanchez was one that got away but it is funny they now need the type of signings Jose made and we need somebody that is even more outstanding than we have.

I would make Bale along with a back up keeper the priority this summer as I honestly feel we have enough everywhere else to withstand a challenge on all fronts in the future.

For me, Remy and Bamford should be back up's to Costa with Solanke drafted into the odd first team squad.

Cuadrado, the jury is out for me, Cech and Salah are destined to go. I have heard Cech will head for France to team up with Luiz but Chelsea are keen to liase with Real Madrid over player exchanges.

I cannot see Oscar going, unless we are truly after Bale, Willian can then settle into the so called NO10 role. With Fabregas and Ruben Loftus Cheek and the possible free transfer of Khedria other squad possibilities.

I wouldn't be sorry to see Mikel go, with young Zouma proving to be the beast my mate in the South of France's son predicted !

Zouma for me is our new Desailly of the future, he has performed brilliantly in front of the back four as Marcel always did, however much it is clear he will be our Centre Back in front of Courtios for years.

With Jose poised to sign a new contract and Varane maybe the more likely target as opposed than Bale in Cech discussions it is time for his fantastic trading of Mata and Luiz to be rewarded with all the extra money and sponsorship deals to make the one big transfer that will also chalkenge the front three of the new great side of Barcelona who with two large tweaks are truly back on the European scene.

Florentino Perez said many weeks ago that Bale is a long term investment and they plan to keep him at the club. If they sold Bale, they would want Hazard.

^Yep my thoughts exactly. While Bale is expendable on their part in terms of on the field performances, I doubt the worlds most arrogant club would want to lose face by selling their most expensive player ever (at a loss or at best for what they paid 2 years ago), without them bringing in an even bigger name to replace them.

And who in world football that doesn't play for Real, Barca or Bayern has the biggest name and potential value right now?

Eden Hazard.

And he coincidentally plays for the very club trying to buy said most expensive player off them to begin with.

You could argue for Pogba but really if Real want to buy Pogba, they have no need to sell anyone to fund it.

i just posted in the main forum about this, but its probably more relevant in here. I was at a seminar last month at Stamford Bridge which was put on for chartered accountants, at which the Financial Director and his team gave a presentation on the impact of FFP on the club. The long and the short of it is that the club is now operating in a completely new way with regards finances. There is a structure to the salaries, there are vastly complicated financial models which are prepared to show the long term impact on the club's finances of signing individual players, and the days of going out to the market with a wish-list of Reus, Bale, Pogba, Griezmann, Varane are gone.

As I mentioned in the other thread, we are far more likely to be in for the likes of Cresswell, Clyne, Schneiderlin and one "big name" signing; that said, the big name would have to be suitable for our current financial model and would therefore restrict, in my opinion, the likes of pogba and bale, the "Marquee" signings.

Di Marzio has said on the ol' twitter that chelsea are interested in Koke, when pressed on chelsea's interest in varane, pogba etc. I expect us to sign 3 players at a maximum this summer with a few of our youth players assuming some more responsibility.

Bale is an absolute non starter IMO.

Edit: if i am wrong then i am happy to be reminded of this post! dont get me wrong, i would love us to have bale so i hope that against all odds we do go and sign him up!!

That's an excellent post and my view all along is that we could afford him but that's very much in a vacuum. Take into account his wages in our current wage structure and he's earning almost £100,000 more than the next highest paid player (reportedly).

It's why I'm convinced Luis will be off as well.

I'm absolutely certain that luis will be gone and we will go in for Cresswell.

I think we will then be looking at Schneiderlin as a midfield option.

Koke potentially as an AM.

Question is then would we be looking at a striker on top of this or do we stick with Costa / Remy / Bamford? We are stretched for squad places for foreign players although that would be relieved somewhat by Cech leaving and potentially having Green come in, and Luis leaving and us bringing in Cresswell.

Remy out, lacazette in?

4 signings for me seems like a lot, and whether lacazette is actually a better option than remy after one good season in france....

this whole Reus / Pogba / Varane / Griezmann / Bale fantasy is absolute rubbish.

Would much prefer to sign Griezmann over Bale, seems more worth the money if we do go for a big name signing. Though I do believe the biggest signing we will get in the summer (if we do get it) will be Koke, which i've heard rumours that it'll be a swap deal with Luis + 30m

And frankly does not say a lot about the current squad!  who only lost 3 games all season. can't stand this, right lets get rid of x,y, and z when the season is not even over, that's gratitude for you.

I would love to see Bale in blue!

Another superstar in our team and a front line of Hazard and Bale, with Fabregas in behind to feed them... that would be sensational.

It's about time we make one of these "big" signings instead of throwing our money away with signings like Cuadrado. He cost us like 30m£ and he's just useless.

yes i agree, your knowledge of football is phenomenal, lets right off a player that has not even started and completed a full match! twat.

I'd be happy to see Lacazette come in because he can play on the wing rather than simply backing up Costa.

Cresswell in for Luis makes financial and squad sense since he's not taking up a foreign spot. Koke would be a nice signing because he covers multiple positions without being overly expensive.

I'd love Varane but I don't see the scenario where we get him, despite his relationship with Jose. He's just too good for even Real Madrid to sell in a moment of stupidity, a la Makelele.

Back to Bale though, I'd love it if we got him and with Torres off the books and the TV and sponsorship money is there so it could possibly happen, it would blow a hole in everything we've been doing. Maybe he'd take a paycut in exchange for movement on image rights or something, or simply to come back to England but it's unlikely.
