Thibaut Courtois

Their position is crucial because they're the last line of defence however, it's a position that often gets the most advantage in the 'benefit of the doubt' situation and they provide the least effort compared to other outfield players.. Take fullback for example, running up and down providing both offence and defence and more likely engaged in 1-on-1 battle which often result of that battle being used as measurement to judge them.. The same thing can't be said to a (mere) GK, can it? most people wouldn't blame a GK if they come out 2nd best in 1-on-1 situation and more often than not, people would point out the defence 1st and foremost for the goals conceded unless it's a glaring blunder..

As long as the GK don't make obvious blunder, they'd be pretty much safe from judging eyes.. Any decent GK would do for a top club and of course you can disagree but that's the way I see it..

I think with most of the great teams barring a couple they have had a great goalkeeper, you only have to look at Cech's time with us to see how important a goalkeeper can be. I understand your point to an extent but I think a really good goalkeeper is invaluable to a team. Look at Man Utd, they're still in the hunt for top 4 but without De Gea they'd probably about 10th.

Again he made stupid mistakes. Thanks God we played against Villa.

Yeah, he punched the ball to Villa players at least a couple of times. And something I've been noticing is that when he kicks the ball he rarely puts it beyond the midfield, when most keepers can send it well into the opposition midfield. It seems like he hasn't got any strength to punch or kick the ball. Could that be the result of the injury or was he like that before? Can't remember at Atletico.

He was making similar mistakes last season but people didn't pay attention since we were at the top of the league.

In fairness, goalkeepers tend to be veey underpaid. His role on the team is worthy of that salary. Maybe his performance this year doesn't justify his salary, but he deserved the lucrative contract he got since it was based on how he had performed previously and was expected to perform in the future. Many goalkeepers deserve to be the highest paid for their clubs based on their contributions and importance.

When you said underpaid, it kind of gives me the impression that you overestimate their importance.. I'm not saying it's an easy job but it's easier among other outfield players, I think every other position work harder than the GK and in that regard, I don't think it's justifiable that a GK salary can be 3 times higher than a fullback for example.. .

If you use de gea for example then it's a bit different because it's about personal level playing field.. He's the most outstanding player for MU at the moment so if he earns more than the others then it's not difficult to accept but what if other MU players also put up a good shift? That will lessen de gea, a GK importance because he's not really needed to make that last second refrex save and I have to say that in general GK, is not really hired for that kind of save but for doing the simple things right..

It's more general kind of thinking from me, anyway, 120k is too high when you see a top full back like azpi only earns around 50k.. For the record, even cech didn't earn that much maybe in the latter years but I'm sure for the majority of his seasons with us, he earned under 100k a week..

I will rate him as a top keeper if he can use his hands to make the type of saves typical of Degea yet he can't kick a plastic ball.

Honestly, I'd give Begovic a go for the last few games, give Courtois a kick up the arse.

Tibo won't care. He will just say goodbye...! There is no negotiation. It is I play or leave. Done it before and will do it again.

Lets us get the alleged £70m being mentioned and buy another keeper (or use Begovic)

Like I already said before he has a sh*tty addittude!

He will have tugh time with Conte.

Rumours are now that Conte wants to axe tibo and fancies giving begovic the number 1 shirt.

He already has the number 1 shirt lol, but yeah Courtois' has been poor and average since coming back from injury, he warrants a dropping, didn't get up to date with his comments about the club but if his words weren't being twisted/misinterpreted or whatever then he definitely needs a disciplinary dropping.

Be stupid to sell Cech then sell his replacement.

Begovic is decent but he's not a top keeper

Thibaut is not a top keeper neither!

He should go and be replaced. He's been quite bad since he came to Chelsea, even last season. He didn't have too many clean sheets, did he? PL is not LaLega!

Replace with whom?

Last season he had 12 clean sheets, just 2 less than the highest. And it was more than Lloris and DeGea last season.

He deserves a season with top defenders in front of him, not average players like Cahill, Baba and Mikel.

Agree. Begovic quite happily left a mid-table team to sit on the Champions bench behind one of the top goalkeepers in Europe. That's not the attitude you want in key players.

Courtois has had a bad season, just like De Gea did at the same point but United stuck with him.

He had 12 clean sheets in the EPL last season....
