Patrick Bamford - Back at Chelsea?

Featured Replies

If it's playing time he is after then I highly doubt he'll come back to Chelsea.

He only needs to look at RLC's 30 second cameo today to know his opportunities will be as limited, if not more so than they were at Palace.

That's assuming you trust Pardew's judgment. Frankly I think he's a tool and the fact he never gave Bamford a proper go over Gale, Wickham or Chamak none of whom are scoring might say more about him than Bamford.

The lad didn't become sh*t overnight and the fact he has cut his loan short rather than sat it out shows ambition in my opinion.

We could do worse than give him a go, it's not like he'd be worse than Falcao....

Palace play the same 4-2-3-1 formation we do...Bamford is not a big target man, he will get bullied by defenders playing on his own up there in the prem, which is presumably why Pardew didn't risk it...I'm not saying Falcao is the answer either, but doing it at boro in the championship is one thing, doing it for chelsea in these circumstances is another...besides, Costa will still be first choice so he will just swap one bench for another

Sadly this is probably the case. It's a shame because he could possibly used in a two with Costa. It's not like we couldn't drop one of our underperforming midfielders *cough*Fabregas*cough*...

I see what you mean. The Championship is very different and we've all seen how Vardy, Ighalo and Deaney have struggled this year. [emoji57][emoji849]

For what it's worth I don't think Bamford is anything special and would be very surprised if he actually performed for a club like us.

Having said that, I think he deserved a chance purely on merit after his successful loan. He was high on confidence and that can make even the most average player look good.

From what I have read Guus did not start Traore up top today because he does not consider him a striker, not that Hazard is either mind you.

What would have the excuse been had Bamford been in the squad, would he have been given the nod?

Wasn't he the one who chose Palace?

I guess the problem was they signed another couple of CF's after they got Bamford.

he was on a high after being at boro, now he's taken another step back. poor decision by the club to send him there instead of keeping him back. we signed falcao when we could have saved money keeping bamford back

In all honesty, from the little I've seen, I can't really get excited about Bamford. I hope I'm wrong, but there doesn't seem to be much that really stands out with him and you've got to have a bit more than decent movement and a decent finish in a side like Chelsea.

Just my two-cents.

Right now, when we hardly have any movement up front or shots on target, I would say he has qualities that we desperately need !

good to see he is ambitious enough to want to leave and play. we should believe in him and give him a chance to show his worth, not send him to rot like many of our other potentially promising youngsters.

I agree - confidence in his own ability.

He comes across as an intelligent player as well. I think he might link up very well with players like Hazard and Pedro.

falcao is constantly on the injury table, costa's hamstring is dodgy and he's so volatile you never know when he's going to miss a game or 3, and remy seems to be getting injuries often too, so bring bamford back asap. we just played vs utd with no striker, so it would make sense to have a 4th choice striker who could play a good amount of games for us now until the end of season.

True, but you get that with Remy as well as pace and decent dribbling ability. In any case, I meant in the longer term, but you're right, those are things which have been sorely missing this season.

Who knows, maybe Costa is over the short term Amnesia that saw him forget he was a professional footballer and more precisely, one of the most feared strikers on the planet.

Swansea wouldn't be the the worst move.. Gomis is so patchy and baring them signing two strikers after picking Bamford up, he would play a lot of games with some great players who still have the desire to stay up.  I'd suggest Villa, but I think they have been a relegation waiting to happen for 3 years now and could give up any second.

If Swansea picked up a new manager from the Championship in the coming weeks it may also work favourably, as chances are the manager would have seen first hand how dangerous he can be.

You've named players who deserve praise for their performances, but they are doing it at clubs with nowhere near the level of pressure or expectation you face at chelsea...
