April 5, 201511 yr Another Bamford post, hindsight is a wonderful thing but after Costa went off yesterday i'd love to be able to call on Bamford to come on rather than Drogba, no offence to Drogba but he's clearly struggling without getting regular games, i'm sure Bamford & Remy could do a job, now we're relying on a 36 year old who looks off the pace, if Remy gets injured what then? Its silly Chelsea/Jose again going in to a campaign with limited forwards again.
April 5, 201511 yr We play with one up front so having 3 strikers isn't limited. If bamford had stayed he wouldn't have played, and certainly wouldn't have been ready for the sharp end of the season .
April 5, 201511 yr We play with one up front so having 3 strikers isn't limited. If bamford had stayed he wouldn't have played, and certainly wouldn't have been ready for the sharp end of the season . Having decent back up is very important we havent won a title for 4 years due to our lack of fire power up front. Bamford was going to be a bit part player in our squad this season until Drogba became available hence him going on loan, he could have played a Kalou type role, coming on as sub & possibly changing games or starting the lesser fixtures, it'd have been better than relying on Drogba.
April 6, 201511 yr What a useful squad player the much maligned Kalou looks now - he got his fair share of goals didn't he (and a few shiney medals too). We need back up. Can't fault Remy on what we've seen so far and shouldn't be surprised given his Prem track record but it breaks my heart to see the Drog out there - just horrible. Not sure Bamford is going to be good enough but you don't know until you put him in. Based upon Kane's lower league record I don't think we would have given him a look-in.
April 12, 201511 yr 15 in 34 (28 starts) according to transfermarkt, which is pretty good considering he started off with 1 in 8, and has played 15 of those games on the wing.
April 13, 201511 yr Good article in todays Sun Goals pull out on Bamford, cant find a link sadly, basically it predicts he'll make it in the PL. Yesterdays game again proves just how light we are upfront again, what if Drogba had got injured? what then? we could have gone in to the Utd game without a striker, #logic. Bamford might have done a job for us, how will we ever know unless he plays for us?
April 13, 201511 yr what if Drogba had got injured? what then? we could have gone in to the Utd game without a striker, #logic. The name you are looking for is Zouma.
April 14, 201511 yr Bamford has been nominated as the Football League Young Player of the Year Award, http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2015/04/bamford-nominated-for-football-league-award.html Chelsea loanee Patrick Bamford has been nominated for the Football League Young Player of the Year award. The 21-year-old forward, who is on loan with Middlesbrough in the Championship, has scored 18 goals as Boro push for promotion back into the top flight. As well as netting for the Blues in pre-season, he has scored away at both Liverpool and Manchester City this season. Up against Bamford for the award are MK Dons midfielder Dele Alli and Norwich City winger Nathan Redmond. The winner will be announced this Sunday at a gala ceremony in London.

Now we'll spend £5m on some unknown 22 year old in the same position for a few shirt sales.
April 14, 201511 yr Author Awesome news. That must lift his profile. It will be a joke if he isnt given a chance next season. He has gone above and beyond. Amazing work for Boro. Get him in our lineup next season, Jose! Edited April 14, 201511 yr by Zola
April 14, 201511 yr Would love to see him given a chance. He could be introduced slowly. He said earlier in the season his aim was to get the 3rd choice slot for next year. Hopefully once Jose has that title under his belt he'll get a little braver with the youth. He must be discussing it with Roman behind the scenes and having some sort of plan to start giving some a chance given the potential talent we have and how much Roman has invested in youth. surely? April 14, 201511 yr Well, he has done everything asked of him, and he has also done it by not always playing in his favourite position. I really hope he is bought back next season or is at least sent back on loan to Middlesbrough. I think he has a chance here, Mourinho loves players that can play in multiple positions.
April 14, 201511 yr Great accievement for & from the lad, accieved what ever has been asked of him. Would love to see him given a chance. He could be introduced slowly. I believe & hope you are right, prehaps just really challenge for one or two trophies, and giving our top youth talent a priority appearance's in the other two competitions, give the first team squad strength in depth & to relieve the over reliance of just 11 or 12 players in the main competitions. Chelsea spend millions of pounds on the academies, now we are in the posistion of having a very strong squad of youth players that would do justice to mid stream premier teams and with playing in more senior games are only going to get better, so let us reap the benifits of them. just go for it, we could have a couple of Kane type talented players if we give them the opportunity.
April 14, 201511 yr Great news. Couple of problems I see with Bamford coming back here as third choice. One is obviously playing time. And the other is that he isn't really suited to the lone striker role, I'm not sure Jose will trust him with that role and with his physique I can see him struggle a bit. I think a year on loan with a premier league club (ideally Boro) wouldn't be a bad idea.
April 15, 201511 yr Love to see him come back next season. I'm sure he's not the finished product yet, but if we can't fit a youngster for the third striker spot ( probably 10 start ), we will never promote anyone from the youth system. Another year on loan at the EPL level could be useful, but the old argument of ' it's completely different between playing for a team battle for survival and Chelsea' would work against him when his loan ends. Look at how much time Currado got so far, if we sign a third choice striker, he will probably spend most early season sitting on the bench, so why bother?

April 15, 201511 yr and we're apparently buying some bloke from Japan just to maximise the impact of the Yokohama shirt deal....
April 15, 201511 yr I think he broke ravanellis goal record for Borough yesterday. All be it rava did it in the prem but then again rava had juninio and emmerson creating for him on a very attacking side
April 15, 201511 yr My money is on a loan to a prem side next season. Everton or West Brom perhaps. As many have pointed out already, the Japanese lad (if signed at all) will most likely feature pre-season in a Chelsea shirt and then be loaned to a side in Europe regardless of his ability for reason of a work permit. What wouldn't surprise me at all is for Remy to leave, we sign another mature striker for anywhere between 15 and 30 million and keep Drogba for another season.
