Diego "the guv'nor" Costa

He'll be Real bound I'd say, would be immense if we signed him but just can't see it I'm afraid.

In regard to Costa, I won't be too disappointed if he goes in the summer, he can be a lethal finisher when he's on form, but his general play is never fantastic IMO.

He's also letting his really annoying habit of taking sly kicks at players ala the wee kick out on Kompany, completely unnecessary and could have cost us.

No way Real sign Aubu this summer. Basically will run into Ronaldo's channels off the ball. No way the Real heirachy allow that.

I don't know how you have come to that conclusion to be honest, he was awful. He didn't hold up the ball well at all, he was easy to tackle and gave it away from poor passes and poor decision making. When it comes to the physical part of the game, Costa is poor at it. He isn't actually that strong, he get's outmuscled too often.

If you compare Costa's first 4 months of the season to now, you would think it's a different player playing. It's starting to look more and more like he is a half a season player. This is the 4th season in a row where he has only performed well for half a season.

As bad as he was, he probably was our most fouled player last night. Won us numerous amount of free kicks which was quite key but apart from that, was frustrating but people seem to think he lost the ball in every tussle. Not true as like I said, he won us a lot of free kicks in his defence but his petulance is starting to piss me off. Just making me think he don't give a sh*t anymore and his mind is completely elsewhere.

He wasn't bad, but we definitely need more from him. He never really got better of the Stone and fitness lacking Kompany, and guilty of some silly fouls. There's one instance in the first half Hazard broke free, got called back because Costa decided to tug someone's shirt off the ball. Although it's a 50-50 call, it's non sense for Costa to do it and killing a big chance we had. We need more than a 6/10 game from our top striker.

I think we should play the false 9 system with Hazard/Willian/Pedro on the weekend. They would have prepared for Costa, having 3 ball carriers running into channels will split their defence open before they know it.

I think his last few months have been a complete embarrassment.

Yesterday he once again looked like a sunday-leaguer that was just thrown unto the pitch. Ball bouncing off him in all directions, lost 9 out of 10 duels, no goal threat and alltogether just pocketed by Stones(!) and a Kompany that haven't played all season.

He picked up his play in the second half, but was quite poor overall. Didn't track back or put much pressure into their midfield or defenders. Don't know whats happened to him but since the China affair he doesn't look very focused on our title race.

Another poor performance in 2017. If he can't score against a shocking City defense as open as that he's gonna struggle against teams that sit back and park the bus. Bring back Lukaku, flog him off to China.

Tbh Lukaku was murder against Liverpool and United. He was every bit as poor as Diego IMO.

He's not a very good footballer but does score goals.

I think we need significantly better but there is slim pickings out there

I don't rate Lukaku much, he has poor matches every so often! And like Costa he only works hard when he wants. I'd prefer some other striker, maybe Morata is willing to leave Real Madrid this summer and he is rated by Conte, although I don't think he is the real deal, but a better choice than Lukaku. Also, if Sanchez comes, it would be a killing front trio, but we need to keep Hazard next season.

What's annoying me the most is his ball retention at the moment. If you're playing as the lone striker, you NEED to be able to hold up the ball and wait for the two wingers to fly off you and make an option, which Hazard and Pedro do very well. But Diego is struggling with this at the moment.

Also his off the ball movement is very clumsy, one occasion last night when he fouled I think Kompany off the ball when Hazard was 1v1 with Stones was extremely frustrating.

He was the same in our 2014/15 title win, unplayable from August-December and then struggled post January, however that time minus the China rumours. I think maybe time to cash in on what would be a huge bid from China and invest elsewhere.

Will he get done by video?

"Diego Costa will not face any retrospective FA punishment for his apparent kick at Vincent Kompany.
referee Mike Dean saw the incident and dealt with it at the time meaning Costa is in the clear."

Question is, is that a good or bad thing for us? Who would have thought we would even ponder that before Christmas...

i did not see the first half, but in the second half i felt like he was doing other things even though he is not scoring. You are right in that he cant out muscle many defenders but Kompany is a very strong defender and very few strikers can outmuscle him. Costa's game is built more on trying to get fouls or creating enough space and converting half chances. It sucks that after the China rumor his goal scoring has gone missing, but i still feel like his presence on the field does make a positive impact for Chelsea and that the front 3 of Chelsea must include him.

I just hope you are not reffering to Lukaku when you say invest elsewhere.

Costa sh*te again. Lukaku is doing what Costa can't and scoring goals.

Did you watch United x Everton?

wouldn't like to be any of you lot's mates, blimey the guy doesn't score for a few games and now hes pants and should be flogged in the summer (paraphrasing I know)

I didn't see a lazy sh*te player yesterday or in every game since early January either. I saw a lone # 9 who was trying for the team, doing what he does best

pissing off and niggling the opposition, putting in the needle, I personally like that the team has a striker like that. Ddnt like Big Duncan Ferguson when he was at Everton

but I bet those blue mousers did. So currently hes not scoring for fun, or even scoring, but he was a big part of the 13 match winning streak and for that deserves a modicum of respect and loyalty IMO.

It's not so much his goals that i'm worried about, it's his overall game i have become frustrated with. The video above shows everything wrong with his game at the moment.

Was at the game and watching him off the ball he did work hard to close down people and started many trigger points in getting others to help in closing City down. Making the goalkeeper kick long when he didn't want to. I know he isn't scoring at the moment, he did make mistakes in his hold up play. But I didn't see someone that was disinterested or not bothered. Courtois made a howler, but everyone at the game straight after it happened were chanting Tibo ! Tibo! Get behind him until the end of the season and see what happens.

Stupid fouls, slow build up play and breaking down our own attacks. Its okay when he's in the box and scoring but when he isn't the bloke offers almost nothing else.

Let's be honest here. Diego is a poacher. If the ball drops to him in the box and its an instinctive finish, he's great. But ask him to do pretty much anything else - dribble, pass, cross, hold up play, one-on-ones where he has to think for a few seconds, and its a real struggle for him. So when he's not scoring, he looks atrocious, because he fails to do anything else. We really need another striker who can actually put pressure on him for next season, someone with different attributes who can do those things he can't. Sanchez is the obvious one. Lukaku is too similar, so it would have to be one or the other, not both him and Costa.
