I haven't actually seen anything that really says those stories was rubbish, something clearly happened. Yeah there was a lot of talk but that doesn't mean it wasnt true to some degree. Saying Costa has said certain things doesn't actually hold much weight in football. His not exactly going to come out and say the opposite?

Most people seem not surprised if Costa leaves this summer.

Costs literally posted about the press making up rubbish....

If you can't take his word for it then that's fair enough but not much more he can do to convince people.

So you would keep an unhappy player? If he indeed is unhappy. The stories in January were obvious that something is wrong, i didn't buy the "it is all media talk" one bit.

I didn't say anything like that.  I was answering your comment that you weren't interested  in what happens in the summer as "we will have enough time to get a suitable replacement."  You seem to think finding a replacement if he does go will be easy.  I was only pointing out that it wouldn't be.

That celebration could of meant anything, the press and everyone was talking so it's true. Whether they was right or wrong we will won't know for a few years now, but something happened though.

Costa was in a win ,win situation after the China thing, if he don't tweet it will make fans wounder what happened, if he tweets "come on Chelsea" it makes some fans think his staying even if it could be for the short term. He had nothing to lose and it's great PR.

A player coming out and saying it is all rubbish is more reliable than a bunch of unsourced media garbage.

Still a lot of fans won't be surprised if he leaves this summer. He was always going to say something after all what happened. It was never going to be anything negative. It might all be positive all I am saying is he would never admit he wanted to leave.

Quote

"Atletico knows I have a special feeling for the team, I lived the best moment of my career there. El Cholo [Diego Simeone] knows it wasn't impossible for me to come back to Atletico.

"The relationship with Conte didn't start well because when he arrived I told him I wanted to go to Atletico. Chelsea's fans love me a lot, even more than in Atletico, figure that!

"When Atletico had to wait for me they didn't, there was still a month to go in the transfer market.

"I've done everything to come back to Atletico Madrid but I wouldn't fight the same to return. When Atletico didn't wait for me, I had to go to Conte with the tail between my legs."

"In life, anything can happen and I do not close the door to anything. In football you are worth what you are worth when you are good. And why not? But right now I am good at Chelsea…I have two years left on my contract and I intend to fulfil them.

"But you never know. It's not impossible to reject it because there are things to assess. You have to think about it all. I do not rule out anything. If they come with something for Chelsea and the club tell me to go…I can go to China or elsewhere."

I know Costa has been vocal and honest about wanting to leave before, but personally I'm not liking these quotes, I prefer players keeping their mouths shut and do this kind of stuff behind the scenes. He has been an important part of our team for the past 3 years and of course I'd love it if he stayed, but if he's not entirely happy here then let him leave. I'm sure we can find a proper replacement with the amount of money we'd get from his sale.

We all knew he wanted to leave last season, he came out and said as much but Atletico didn't bring him back so he knuckled down and has done well for us since.

It's good he knows we appreciate him and he is looking to fulfil his contract. Atletico is his team so there is always going to be that bond. That doesn't really bother me

There are replacements out there, it's just a matter of getting one of them. Griezmann, Aubameyang, Mertens, Icardi, Belotti, Lukaku would all be valid replacements for him in my mind.

Greizmann is going to United while Aubameyang has already said he will go to Madrid.

The rest I don't think are Costa's level personally. I'd rather take a punt on the young Monaco striker who looks like he will be the best in Europe in a few seasons.

Until I see either of those confirmed I wouldn't be so sure, plenty of times players have seemed certain to end up at one club and ended up at another

Mertens and Icardi are both close to Costa's level for me, Icardi is a great all round forward, Mertens is more of a technical Aguero-esque forward, but both score plenty of goals.

Agree with you on Mbappé, he looks like he'll be top notch, but can we really afford to have an 18 year old leading us in 4 competitions? We could probably do with signing 2 strikers to be honest, especially since Conte doesn't seem to rate Michy. I'd take Mbappé alongside any of the others i've listed if we end up getting rid of Michy.

I'd bring in Mbappe for Michy and keep Costa ideally.

If we lost Costa it would be Mbaooe and Lukaku no doubt but Lukaku won't come to a club where he has to fight for his place, he needs to be guaranteed first team football so not sure.

If we end up paying 50-70m he will be a first team regular. If we don't pay that kind of money he won't be coming here.

If he's not happy at the club then let him go, the last thing I'd want is players who don't want to play for Chelsea.

I'd obviously be delighted if he stayed as well, and he's not said that he wants to leave again, but I'm just not overly impressed with that interview.

I know lotalty is a rarity in football nowadays, but it comes across as angling for a move IMO.

Agree with you, keeping Costa owuld be the ideal scenario, but i just have a feeling he'll leave this summer, I hope i'm wrong. Lukaku and Mbappe would be fantastic, we could even try a 3-5-2 with both of them at times as well, i feel they'd complement each other well.

Why do players always mouth off when they're on International duty? We've had it with Courtois already this season, it's so irritating...

It's almost as if they think the news won't filter back to England... makes for a very awkward situation on their return I'm sure.

In December if Costa came out with this I'd be saying keep him at all costs. But he's not been right since the China bid, if we receive silly money aka £80m plus then I think we should take that and invest in two key players. Mbappe & Sanchez perhaps.

Mbappe is reported to be going for over £80 odd million so that's not very likely sadly.

Indeed. After all, Pedro went to United and Willian went to Spurs so-

Oh wait.

Anyway, I have a feeling Costa will leave this summer too. It's just a question of getting a superstar to replace him. I wouldn't mind Lukaku

If he's truly unhappy it would behoove the club to look to sell to China.  They will offer crazy stupid money and we can recoup his loss.  Atleti won't offer nearly as much.

Ideally, he stays.

form completely skydived after the whole china thing, then those quotes

yeah think he's definitely leaving this summer, hopefully that chinese team is still interested, or who knows with atleti might open talks for griezman swap deal

It's at the point where we should probably just sell, no point in keeping him if he doesn't want to be here. This seems to be a calculated attempt to push it again.

I see Lukaku take a lot of flak on here for his footballing abilities but I watch Costa and he's terrible on the ball more often than not.

Now I'm not saying Costa isn't a great striker because he is, you can't argue with goals. But i'd happily have Lukaku as a replacement i think he'd suit us perfectly.
