Petr Cech to Arsenal

Featured Replies

£10.9m is too cheap.

Yes i understand Cech wanting to stay in London but please do not tell me Arsenal would have not paid another £3-4m.

£14-15m would have been better but its not our choice.

Good luck Petr. Please slip up when required. Remember your roots!

What difference does a few extra million make?

You really are a dumb faggot aren't you?

You expect a club legend to sit on the bench and rot just so you're happy?

I shouldn't laugh at this but I can't help it.

£11m isn't that low, its the 5th highest paid for a keeper. Not bad for a keeper with one year left on a contract. I would rather we had gotten nearer £15m though.

Be interesting to see how fit he stays, arsenal break all their players, and cech has seemingly been managed through ankle and elbow problems the past few years.

If we get Begovic I'll be very happy.

Good keeper, infinitely better than Rob Green, counts as homegrown I believe, and five years younger than Cech.

I struggled to believe he would settle for a back-up role but if we can convince him that's good news.

I presume we want to tie this up before we confirm Cech's departure.

We will be as strong in the keeper department as any club in the world, stronger in fact.

Basically our back-up will be better than every other Premiership's number 1, apart from maybe 5 or 6 clubs.

That's not bad going.

Cech going to Arsenal is bad, there's no getting around it, but let's console ourselves (or convince ourselves) that he'll be on the wane, and we've had by far his best years.

£11m really isn't that bad. He's a 33 year old keeper with one year left. We are not, we were never, going to get £20m for him.

He's in the top 5 most expensive keepers in history, and the top 10 most expensive over-30s in history.

It really isn't that bad, we didn't have too much leverage over this one.

I'm putting it down as collateral damage.

I just checked and Begovic qualifies as homegrown, although if Dyke has his way and changes the homegrown rule, that will no longer be the case.

Also worth mentioning that Begovic has played in a World Cup, so he also has that level of experience.

Gutted but I understand. Hopefully this means others players will see this and other moves we have made to make players happy and know that we value their needs as well as our own. It is all well and good as fans to sit here and say where a player should play buy I suspect the people on the field see things differently than us. I think they will see a club that is willing to work with them and this can only be seen as a positive in the future.

That being said, I hope Cech has nothing but rotten luck in any and every game he plays from now and until he leaves that sh*tty little stain of a club. I'm talking ridiculous deflections and stupid own goals from the troop of clowns that will stand in front of him. May he forever and always jump the wrong way during penalties. Amen.

The way Chelsea have handled this has been superb.  Hats off - couldn't be prouder.

At the end of the day they valued the stability of a family, especially Cech's kids over a few extra million quid.

Cech no hard feelings, you always put family first, thanks for the years of great service.

I don't understand the meltdown on this board.  People are taking this really personally.

Is there no confidence in this team? in this manager?

The way we handled the transfer has been superb? The biggest exaggeration on this forum ever?

Selling David Luiz for 50 million, that was superb, selling Cech to a rival for not even his worth, that's not superb. Our hands weren't tied, Arsenal have absolutely done us, so I don't see how we are winning on the end of this one. We've just gave Arsenal a world class goal keeper, it's not like they spent over 20 million.

It's poor from the club, certainly not 'superb'.

mmmmm.....surely you're not so obtuse to be able to recognize that what sergio meant by his choice of "superb" in the context is the  club's and more probably the owner's rather classy attitude in dealing with this - an acceptance of a decade of great service that Cech has given us & that the timing was right for him to depart. Furthermore, they have recognized that players' families are just as if not more important than football. Surely they are right in that attitude are they not & especially so as a reward to just such a player as Cech. I for one want to be associated with a club that has such an attitude when it comes to respecting such a player's choices after such marvellous service. We should be & continue to be setting our own standard in respect to these matters & evincing a standard that does us proud. If you & others can't handle that then surely that is more a reflection on you is it not? To use Luiz as your example of "superb" business is hardly apposite & only reflects the transfer amount secured. True it is that it was a phenomenal amount of money to have received - almost farcical really - but it is very unhelpful to use that as a marker in respect to Cech. Further, to say, as you do, that we should've got 20 mill or so is ridiculous & equally hyperbolic on your part.

We are Chels - we are classy - try to remember that in future.

Well, we've greatly strengthened probably our most serious title rival for peanuts, great bit of business there then.

Greatly strengthened?!? More hyperbole.....and so it goes....

We've just given them one of the best players in the world at a position they have struggled to fill for nearly a decade. They have been greatly strengthened in the context of they were desperate for a good GK, let alone a truly world class one.

It was only 3 years ago that we were all being told that chezny (i dont care you spell it) was the best in the world. This wasn't just fans telling us  this, it was pundits as well

Must say I do believe £10.9M is low.

It is not outrageously low, all things considered, but I would say realistically I saw Cech being sold for anywhere between £10-15M.... so I would certainly say that it is Arsenal who should feel like they have got the good deal. I personally don't think we would have been wrong to say £15M is the price- take it or leave it.

I can't say I agree with the way we have handled this transfer on a whole. Even if you accept that we had made an agreement with Cech that he could go to his choice of clubs, we really to appeared to have pandered to his (and in turn Arsenals) needs like I can't remember a top club doing when doing a deal with a direct rival. I would just like to have seen us make it more difficult for Arsenal and, essentially, driven a much harder bargain.

I have seen quite a few people say "what difference does a few more million make?"

I struggle to really understand the logic of that argument. You could apply that to every transfer to the end of time and pay over the odds and sell for peanuts if it makes you happy. It's a lazy and improper way to approach any business transaction and one I would feel even more ridiculous given the nature of this transfer.

Every million we get out of Arsenal is another one in our transfer kitty and one less in theirs- why would we concede at the lower end of the likely transfer fee spectrum for Cech when we are in no hurry what so ever for the deal to go through? I already feel we look like we got swatted like a fly when we suggested we wanted a player in exchange so why hurry the deal through at such an agreeable fee for Arsenal. Why not hold out for the best possible deal for Chelsea FC?

I wouldn't go as far as to say we got robbed but a players value is determined by what they are worth to the buyer and I would say you will struggle to find an Arsenal fan who doesn't think they got a bargain in Petr Cech for £10.9M.

:crigon_01:

It was nice off the club not to try force petr and he's family out of London classy im a way but we will still be the enemy of football no matter what we do. Will it be still classy come may if arsenal win the tittle. I can't wish petr success but I wish him a safe playing career

so what's all the fuss about - the way i see it we're still better than them in every single position on the pitch man for man and most importantly we have mourinho and they have mr i didnt see the incident?

Chelsea - Arsenal combined 11

----------Diego Costa

Hazard - Oscar - Sanchez

-----Matic --- Fabregas

Azpi - Terry - Cahill - Ivanovic

----------Courtois

Only one of their players will get into our starting line up.

I cant see Begovic, a 28 year old starting keeper wanting to come to us to sit on the bench. If he does, we'll have to give him a massive pay rise from what hes getting, and even then, will he be content? I suppose if we give him cup games etc he will be in with trophies, which should appeal.

I think our most realistic aim should be a seasoned veteran who has maybe lost their starting role but is good enough for a few years. Obviosuly Cech fits that billing but not suitable haha.

Arsenal; a team without an established first choice keeper, with a problem with consistency, particularly defensively, and that is relatively young with next to no experience in winning titles is receiving Petr Cech; one of the worlds top keepers who is extremely consistent, very experienced and a drilled in winner.

for roughly 40% of what we paid for Juan Cuadrado.
