deary me......I seem to recall that we won the title last year & by some margin & that we also won the League Cup. So a double. Don't know what your definition of fantastic is but that's pretty fantastic to me & I would imagine a majority of football supporters no matter who they follow. As for 'shameful' in the CL ?!? Topped our Group by some margin & then in the 1st knock-out round lost on away goals to a very good side because of some careless marking in the latter stages of the return leg. How is that exactly shameful? Disappointing perhaps but shameful ?!? With such an attitude as yours, it's difficult to imagine what this club must achieve in any given year so as to satisfy you.

I suggest for starters that you acknowledge what this club has achieved in the last 15 years or so. It's pretty remarkable. You might also acknowledge what the owner has contributed over the last 12 or so years to get us to where we are today - among the top clubs of Europe & year in/year out doing nicely in the toughest domestic league in the world. We have a number of competing priorities atm - continuing to balance the books/run at a profit, developing our youth, continuing to develop the brand worldwide & now, a very expensive new stadium to build. All this whilst attempting to stay at the top. It's all a juggling act. But it would seem that the likes of you thinks that the owner should commit even larger sums than he is willing to do at present in order that we can buy more 'star' players. Tell you what - why don't you write him a letter about how unsatisfied you are with his generosity. While you're at it you may want to spare us on here of your breathtaking spoilt naivete.

Your entire post speaks to me as a lack of ambition. We are one of the best clubs in the world, 4th or 5th i believe in the UEFA ranking, our ambitions should be more than just win the league.

At the Redcafe they have a newbie forum, where new posters reside until they deem fit to get into the main section. Wouldn't be a bad idea to have the same here and save the rest of us from reading through a never ending gibberish from highly excitable pubescent schoolboys.

What gets you promoted to the main forum though? Is it a simple case of whether you reach a certain amount of posts or does a mod look at what kind of person they are as well?

As someone who frequents Redcafe- there's a fair few Chelsea fans/Chelsea discussion, they currently use a system based on how many likes a newbie gets I think. A certain amount of likes gets you promoted. Having said that they're just as bad as us if they lose sometimes

Ahh I see but guess it's a system that filters some of it out

All football fans are the same in my opinion. People put all of their emotions into football, i think it's pretty inevitable that people are going to react in a negative way if they lose.

It depends if people have more in their lives than football though. I don't live for football so I am less emotionally invested in it, but it still frustrating when we don't perform or media & fans are talking sh*t and I see it on the news or in the paper.

I don't think results affect me as much these days. I used to be angry for 24 hours after a defeat. Nowadays I tend to not even think about it for much longer than half an hour after the game.

I don't think there is anything wring with having a moan after a defeat. I think it's a pretty natural process, and something me and my mates do at the pub on Sunday if we lose.

I think it's the 'doomsday' posts that can be a little the top.

I could understand, to a degree at least, that kind of attitude being taken towards the League Cup or maybe even the FA Cup, but after going 5 years without a league title, I would have thought even the most spoilt fan would appreciate how difficult winning the league is and how it should be celebrated as a major achievement every time we win it.

I appreciate everything we win, even the Community Shield should we have won it. That doesn't mean we shouldn't have bigger ambitions though. Like i said, if you are considered to be one of the best teams in the world, and we are, than the ambitions should reach higher than winning your domestic league. Reaching the round of 16 in the Champions League is just not good enough.

The biggest problem with your argument is that the round of sixteen/last sixteen stage of the Champions League is a knockout stage, and as with any cup competition, is subject to the whims of chance to a far greater extent than a league competition.

On the day (or days in the case of a two legged tie) it's eleven against eleven, a poor refereering decision, a rush of blood to the head, an unlucky deflection, a cruel injury - any of these factors can have a far greater effect than in the league.

I've seen similar arguments to yours so many times. "A club of our size/status/standing should be doing at least as good as [insert minimum achievement of choice] and not have to settle for [insert unacceptable level of achievement of choice]". Unfortiunately football doesn't, never has and never will work like that. Hence the romance of the FA Cup. We were on the end of one ourselves only last season, if you recall There is no disgrace to going out to lower league opposition, it's not the end of the world. These things happen, always have done, and hopefully always will.

If we progress to the last eight and beyond, of this season's Champions League, then all well and good. If we don't we don't Assuming we don't win it again, if and when we go out of the competition, we'll either have been beaten by a better team on the day (or days) or we'll have been unlucky. Such is life, such is football.

One question. What do you actually do about a result or a performance that you find "unacceptable"? Do you throw in the towel, do you storm off in a huff, turn your back on the team, in favour of one who's achievements consistently meet what you deem to be a level of acceptability?

No of course you don't. You might well be pissed off, you could adopt a football avoidance tactic for a while, or you could come on to this site and vent your frustration. Nothing wrong with any of that. But please don't tell me that going out of any cup competition at any stage is "unacceptable".Because "unacceptable" implies that you've had enough, that you're not going to take any more, and that you're going to turn your back on the team you say you support.

Truth is that failure to reach the last eight (or beyond) of the Champions League isn't "unacceptable" at all. Not even for those of you who profess it to be. Disappointing perhaps, but the reality is that failing to get beyond the last sixteen fails to meet YOUR expectations, that's all. And those of many others, no doubt. But all this "unacceptable" malarky is frankly just a bit daft.

Depending on the competition, how I react to bad results varies.

Bradford last season - Surprised but happy for Bradford.

Arsenal on Sunday - Somewhat disappointed but mostly indifferent.

Atletico 13/14 - Somewhat disappointed

PSG last season - Disappointed.

Tottenham last season - Surprised and very disappointed.

Man United away last season - Very disappointed.

Arsenal home 11/12 - Frustrated.

Man United home 12/13 - Very frustrated.

Liverpool away 12/13 - Infuriated.

Man United Champions League Final - Devastated.

Barcelona Champions League 09 - Infuriated and devastated.

Quite surprised you were only somewhat dissappointed at the Atletico home game, just watching us getting absolutely dismantled by a superior team was really heartbreaking for me.

Take away the fans with their smug, insufferable superiority complex, take away Wenger with his visual narcolepsy when decision go his way, take away the fact they are the original MK Dons, take away the fact they play in red and white.

Losing to arsenal doesn't seem too bad now.

They were by far the better team. It was a fair result. I was really happy that we reached the Semis in the first place to be honest.

Atletico deserved to go through and I accepted that.

In a strange way, it was kind of refreshing to go out to a team that played better than us over the course of the tie and not to some ridiculous controversy which seemed to happen every year.

Jesus, if this is what the forum is like after a pre-season friendly, what's it going to be like in the regular season?

I think we missed out by selling Cech to Arsenal.

We should have really pushed out all the stops to get Oxlade-Chamberlain as part of the deal. He is criminally underused by Wenger.

Still pissed about this result the way Bellerin totally owned Hazard is this game was embarrassing..

Some Chelsea fans here who thought it was in the bag are deluded. Arsenal basically made us look stupid.

To think you congratulated us after we won the league, you are sad.
