The curtain raiser to the season is soon forgotten

The likelihood is that you lot will win again, but I'm going to continuously call it the way I see it.

I'd like us (Charlton) to do well this season.....sadly. I think we have no chance of the play offs let alone promotion

You Chelsea fans have no idea what it's like to be a real football fan.......

a rather ridiculous assumption at the end...many of us on here are old school pre-roman you know...supporting the team when we were not winning a thing and in my case seeing them get relegated to old division two in 1988...a proper football fan wouldn't go on a other clubs site and spout the nonsense you are

It seems post and ore season are been used as a tool to build the brand rather than to actually help with the season. I think the balance is wrong. For me it's always about the team not the brand. Although I can understand in this day and age the brand is more important.

I agree on the latter to, it's been a worry of mine. We messed up big time in 10-11 and Im worried we've done the same this season. It's early doors I know and this isn't based on anything today just a feeling I've got.

Unfortunately now the brand alters the team, the stronger the brand the stronger financials and the more we can spend, necessary evil in the new world of ffp

I wasn't able to watch it, not too bothered either. If we ever allow Wenger to win a game, may as well be this one. I laughed at all the comments that Arsenal is the real deal, and Wenger has found his way against Jose. 1 out of 14? I take that anytime of the day.

The only concern is all the pre-season game we played follow the same pattern, we seemed to create chances, unable to convert so many chances, then there's the lack of focus that cost goals. It's acceptable in preseason, but I hope we pick it up soon, the real thing is not far away.

Aaaand it begins. It's amazing how quickly the majority of opposition fans turn out to be complete w**kers on here.

Haha, why you surprised? This was me last week and my respect for Everton fans over Stonesgate!

I support Charlton Athletic if you need to know (and don't take the piss)

Just calling it the way I see it

If Chelsea had beat Arsenal do you honestly think Mourinho would have been waiting to shake their hands?

I know football is tribal but does that excuse some of you from suspending all critical faculties?

I don't think so

Arsenal won deservedly......get over it

I was over Arsenal beating Chelsea within 10 minutes, which you would know if you'd read my earlier comments, but I guess you like making things up, so by all means carry on doing that. Your comments about Mourinho, your just calling it the way you see it right? Only someone who hates Mourinho or Chelsea could somehow turn him shaking the hands of players in to a negative thing, so you can't be a neatrul. As for your little jibe about us not being real fans, I was supporting Chelsea when every fat United ‘fan’ in my school took the mick when they couldn't even name five United players, so jog on, the same applies to Arsenal and Liverpool fans, there were many of them back then who liked to mock me for not supporting a ‘big club’, now they mock us because they pretend that we're not a big club.

Please do enlighten us on how we can tell a real football fan from a counterfeit football fan. I hate counterfeits. .....

It was a glorified friendly raising money for charity.

No players are going to risk injury or make the do or die tackle in a game like this.

I don't ever watch friendlies as with multiple subs and lack of purpose they have no bearing on the actual league or cup competitions. Maybe some managers use them as real games but I bet most just use them to try out players and new ideas / strategies etc, without giving too much away to rivals.

Season starts next weekend, then I will be interested if we win or lose

Been getting texts from Gooners I know who are acting like they have won the Champions League. But as we all know "Champions of Europe, you'll never sing that"

How are you, you were there weren't you?

Yep.  It was a good day out, apart from the result of course!  Good journey both ways which meant we got down in time to find the Green Man and have a few beers in the sunshine and enjoy a bit of singing.  I wasn't particularly optimistic about the result beforehand as we never seem to do too well in the CS.  And as others have said, Wenger was bound to beat Jose eventually so it might as well be this time.

First time at Wembley to see Chelsea.  Mind you, I've now been three times (twice to see Shrewsbury) and each time my team has lost so it's not a happy hunting ground for me!  Went to the old Wembley a few times to see England many, many years ago but can't remember who won or who they were playing!

If Chelsea had beat Arsenal do you honestly think Mourinho would have been waiting to shake their hands?

Surely if we had won then it would have been on Wenger to congratulate and shake hands with our team?

Now be honest, a man that is renowned for snubbing handshakes... Do you think he would shaken hands with all of our players despite losing?

I get your point but Cahill's nose and Ivanovich's attempt to take out the post (before Cahill got in the way), says otherwise!

BTW interesting fact:

Of the 92 games played since this competition began in 1908 only 18 winners have gone on finish as champions, 22 as runner up and 5 as 3rd placed. The remaining 47 placed outside of the top 3.

Hardly a stunning predictor of league success....

Further more in the wenger era, arsenal have won the trophy 5 times (not including yesterday) and have NEVER gone on to win the title the following season

How are we not real football fans? Just because some of us are too young to have seen the days when Chelsea were in the 2nd Div or when they were cash strapped before Roman? It's not our fault the club has known nothing but success for the last decade. As a Charlton fan have you ever experienced the pain of losing a major cup final? Just because you may have experienced relegation and still support them doesn't mean you immediately become a better fan than us Chelsea fans? We lost a champions league final we should have won to a lucky slip to one of our biggest rivals. Doesn't get bigger than that does it? And we still support Chelsea. Either you just made a misguided comment or you're deliberately winding us up with the 'plastic fan' argument

Hmm, Cahill's nose was as a result of an Arsenal player falling on him as they jumped for a header and Brana got shoved in the back as he went up for a header - neither were as a result of "win at all costs" actions as I recall.

It's clear Wenger doesn't care for the rudeness and disrespect directed at him and other managers (eg Benitez) by Mourinho.

You Chelsea fans obviously idolise a manager that has brought you great success but his malice and spite is unsavoury meaning he doesn't command the universal respect his managerial talents might otherwise demand.

Hardly surprising Wenger doesn't want to shake his hand. Can you blame him?

I think it has more to do with personal dislike, re: Wenger and Benitez. Fergie appeared to hate the pair of them too...Hmm maybe a pattern is emerging.

Also Wenger can be rude and spiteful too but he appears to get away with it, He is more than willing to start an argument and say spiteful things when the mood takes him.

Yeah buddy thats why he marched into Mourinhos technical area and pushed him last season. Cool as a cucumber.

So whats your excuse for all the other managers he snubs ?

Charlton supporter, sure.

Blimey Arsenal have fallen a fair distance if their fans feel the need to come on here after recording a Charity Shield win!

It's a friendly, don't care what anyone says it counts for nothing, just like the Super Cup!

If you win it's nice, but I wouldn't even count it in any clubs honours list, I mean it used to get shared if there was a draw!
