Guys i dont wonna put the downers on a great debut from Pedro but give it a couple of more weeks playing for Mourinho & he will almost definitly turn into a more defensive, playing the ball back instead of forward type of José player....sorry....

ugh..the type of stereotypical nonsense about Chelsea and Mourinho you expect to hear from a Liverpool fan.

And the funny things was he was better after terry went off really stood up to be counted

Yup he really stood up to be counted.   Not scared to get stuck in, fast, moves around well.  I like Zouma.  He's surely a long-term player for us.

We can't play defensive...we're behind.

Also Morrison is such a bellend. When he got tackled by Zouma he literally just watched the game while lying on the ground trying to pretend he was injured.

Glad we've finally got 3 points even in shaky fashion.

Pedro and Courtois both had fantastic games. Fantastic to see Pedro being so direct.

Fabs defence has never been much, it's his attacking play that's going off.

Terry definitely too slow

Ivan......

First time watching Match of the Day this season. Love how they have Liverpool giving us the guard of honour on their introduction.

The graphic of the Everton and City managers looked like a pair of Victorian villains.

Firstly, Clattenburg's attention-seeking throughout the game really grates. No complaints about the pen but the red was soft for me.

I thought Jose's comments afterwards were superb. He said he didn't want to talk about the ref, just that he was aware that many people will be disappointed we won, and that the players deserved their victory.

Spot on Jose, the implication refs are swayed by public and media opinion is justified and has been for a very long time now, but he didn't say anything that could get him in trouble. Maybe the red was justified even if it was soft, but we never seem to get the rub of the green with big decisions.

Courtois is overrated IMO, good keeper but far from the finished article yet. Ivan had another mare, but I thought our front four were all great, especially Pedro, obviously.

Very important win in a very difficult fixture and it will breed confidence.

Well done Jose and well done Chelsea.

Ivanovic must be at least 2 metres away from the crosser as it's delivered into Morrison, just simply not good enough. If we don't see Rahman and Azpi as our full backs next week I'll be very disappointed

Btw our goals conceded are the second worst in the premier at this stage. Only Sunderland is worse.

The entire defensive line up is terrible.

It will likely take months to fix.

Zouma is certainly no beckenbauer on the ball either, but he is a fast strong defender good in the air.

It's not just the defence, but Ivan Terry and Cahill have all been good at set pieces in attack and we are going to miss that.

I don't see Terry being in the first team much longer, regrettably. He had more than enough to offset his lack of pace last season but this year it's going to cost. You can maybe carry one slow defensive player but not two.

Azpi   Cahill   Zouma  Rahman

If that isn't our backline against Palace I'll be f**king amazed. Terry suspended and Ivanovic needs to be dropped. Give the armband to Cahill for the game.

if we had a backline of azpi zouma terry and rahman, then we would only be 'carrying' one slow player in our backline. and to suggest we would need to 'carry' JT at all is massively unfair on him. defending is not about pace, it's about positioning, teamwork, communication. take JT out of our backline and who is going to co-ordinate it? i think some people are far too quick to write him off, he is essential in defensive organisation, and our backline will come good. most of our issues are down to ivanovic's shocking lack of form, not JT

I noticed that as well, to the point where I thought him pulling out the yellow card first before showing the red was deliberate too. Or is that too cynical?

The red card was arguable. The more concerning issue is it's now three out of three red card decisions that have gone against us already.

Good win and three hard earned points.

What a debut from pedro, watched the game with some manure fans, boy were they quiet!!!! he honestly actually played like hazard, which when he clicks we will be sensational, Willians miss is everything which is wrong with him, all set up and no finishing prowess, which may be enough, if we get Pogba or A.N other thats his starting role gone, as Cesc will inherit the 10 spot, Costa took his goal superbly, JT was severely dealt with and this may be the stick that legally Jose can admonish him with, pace again his undoing, i really hope this isn't a complete 180º turn around of last years performances, and he bows out with a whimper, he doesn't deserve that.

Just watched Sky's interviews after the game. F*** me if I thought in 2012 that Cesc Fabregas and Pedro will be standing in front of a camera in royal blue and speaking for my team. Puts hatred of other teams' players in perspective, doesn't it?

I never found either of them anywhere near as dislike-able as say a Busquets, Alves, Alba or Xavi. Particularly not Pedro who was supposedly the most down to earth, hardworking guy in their team.

Just watched the highlights. JT contact was so, so minimal.

Absolutely love Zouma, but he just needs to calm down a bit and play the simple pass sometimes. That will come with experience though.

Not happy with our performance, but pretty proud of it. A lesser team would have lost or at least drop 2 points. Our execution was not great, but we showed lots of fight which went missing in the last 2 games. Even Cesc chipped in a few good tackles, and love the ever reliable JOM  Pedro showed in 80 minutes what we been missing for years, he just created chances effortlessly. The goal he set up for Costa, Willian would just stop and try to cross the ball by the  goal line, and chance would be lost. I hope Jose won't force him to change his style. His work rate was not about tracking back like a wing back, but press and ran behind defence, just refreshing after watching 2 years of Willian. Needless to say, I thought was a very rash call on JT,  I mean you can't just guess on game changing decision like that. In the game against Swanesa, Costa was bought down in similar situation by a defender, and not even a foul was given.

Now we got the win and gained some confidence, I fully expect improvement in the next game and bring the season back on track. If we get 7 points after 4, it's pretty good effort
