Dynamo Kiev vs Chelsea (CL) 20 Oct 2015 19:45

Decent performance especially 1st half.

Matic was looking like his old self.

I think we hit too many balls long to Costa in the air. He struggled physically against the centre backs today, so we should tried to play to his feet more.

Have to say fair play to the lads. Very tough place to go to and I thought tactical solidarity (Mourinho's favourite phrase) described us very well, love Ramires sitting in beside Matic and if the referee was actually concentrating we would have had a penalty and probably gone on to win, onwards and upwards

Defensively we looked better, but still clueless going forward in open play

And it's my biggest worry to be honest, we have done nothing in attack all season so far. Playing solid defensively can only take you so far, if you have nothing in attack, you ain't going to win many games.

Another poor performance. It looks like Mourinho's tactics have been completely found out. After the first 25 minutes, we just played awful. We can't pass, we can't create, the first touch is dodgy, we can't find space, we don't shoot, we don't move well, we just don't have anything to offer going forward these days. We have barely created any chances all season, it's a serious worry. You can't win games if you don't create chances.

I'm starting to think Mourinho thinks too much about the defensive side of the game, he needs to start thinking attacking because we just look so poor on the ball. We won't achieve anything if we keep playing this style all season.

eh?

we looked wayyy more solid...

Thought the majority of that was impressive to be fair. After shipping so many goals so far this season it was good to see us looking more solid at the back. The midfield offered a protection for the backline, Matic, Ramires and Willian in paticular helped out a lot.

Thought Hazard looked improved too, had a decent game and was unlucky not to score in the first half. The only real quality save the Kiev keeper made was from him. Cesc offered more than recent games too imo.

Only negatives for me were, after getting ourselves in to a few good opportunities we messed it up with the final ball and strike. We could and should have won this game, we were by far the better team just had no cutting edge.

Only complaint I can have with Jose is Costa lasted the whole game. He left RLC out, our midfield bossed the game. He dropped changed the defense a bit, all four were good, especially Cahill and MotM Azpi for me. He left Costa on, why? He offered no quality. Good work rate but he messed up a lot of the attacks that went to him. missed a golden chance in the first half. I guess the why is we have no one trusted to replace him.

It is clear, with good reason, Falcao is not trusted. So you messed up in bringing him here Jose, Roman, whoever brought him in. Why bring Traore and Kenedy if you do not wish to use them? Either could have gone up top is not like Costa was holding the ball up was it?

That would be my only complaint. His other calls he got spot on imo.

We are third in one of the easiest groups in th CL this season, the quality of our football has been piss poor all year.

We looked a bit more solid in central midfield compared to the Villa game, thanks to both Matic and Ramires. What I don't like is Costa going out wide and running ontop of our creative players, that leaves us with nothing to aim at inside the box. He also takes forever to let go of the ball at times. Another problem I see is how little pressure our defence+keeper can take before they start playing an aimless long ball, wich turned the game in Kiev favour towards the end.

Agreed. Allthough some of it are on the players. Oscar coming on for 17 minutes and does nothing but give the ball away twice in attacking positions. Diego Costa looking completely invisible, but to be fair he suffers from the fact that except for Fabregas every once in a while we have nobody with the ability to pass him the ball. Theres absolutely zero passong creativity sans Fabregas and he has been off the boil for a while. I can understand why Mourinho is desperate to get him firing again

Solid in defense i agree with, but against Dynamo Kiev i would expect that. Offensively though we were horrendous after the first 25 minutes, and it's been that way all season. We aren't creating anything, we rarely make 2 or 3 successful forward passes, it's really poor. What will we achieve if we keep attacking like this this season ? nothing in my opinion. Being solid defensively is great, but in the end it won't get you anywhere if you have nothing in attack.

I thought it was an excellent performance. The team worked very hard. The passing was good. Unlucky not to score at least two and as per usual denied a stone wall penalty.

Not bad this evening.

However, Jose is too conservative ...

He will never take risks ...

Therefore, it's a totally pointless exercise taking any of our fearless youngsters abroad. They won't be fielded.

Leaving RLC at home highlights the problem ...

Jose: "The referee was weak and naive with the penalty. I cannot understand what the referee behind the goal does because he doesn't make a clear decision too. I see progress. We hit the post twice, had a good solid defensive performance against dangerous team. To lose this game would have been bad for us."

Poor performance? We hit the bar twice, had a stonewall penalty denied, every single player stepped up there game and we defended solidly.

We've scored 14 goals in the premier league - Arsenal 16, Man Utd 16 (2nd and 3rd respectively). Scoring goals is clearly not our problem. Defending is, and tonight, for the first time this season, we looked absolutely solid.

Maybe he will do that from now on when talking about the ref. Though this is Uefa not the FA Jose, different rules probably lol.

That looked like a decent performance to me.  Lady luck didn't go our way but that's how it goes sometimes.

For those in mourning due to RLC not being on the field or on the bench for christ sake get over it - he's a good youngster with some potential.  He's not a big match game changer yet.  Maybe he will be one day and maybe he won't.  But right now he's gradually learning his trade and I'm happy that he gets played when JM thinks it is appropriate.

I remember when many fans were banging on and on about Josh like he was the next frigging Messiah and look what happened to him.

A point isn't the worst outcome. Chelsea plays the both Dynamo and Porto at home and a very poor Maccabi away. I see 9 points to take us to 13 which should qualify us to the knockout stage.
