Tammy Abraham

The Mount pass wasn't as simple as it looked in real time, and the issue is, had Tammy tried to pass and it didn't work, we'd be saying he doesn't have the killer mentality.  I'm glad he tried to take his chance, just wish he'd done better with it

Exactly mac, we cant have it both ways.

He put in a great effort, but it's not surprising that against better sides like Valencia and Pool Tammy found it harder to score. It's all part of the learning process, he's getting invaluable experience of what playing at the highest level is like.

And yes, there were some positives, like him getting into positions to score. But if it was Batshuayi or Giroud, we wouldn't be singing them praises for not converting great chances. We have to be patient, but he needs to be a quick learner.

The biggest issue was he missed a relatively easy chance, and then had another great chance from a header before the end of the half.

The fact that he didnt even look up for Mount for the square ball is a worry because he has to score once hes taken the decision to be selfish, hes a decent finisher and will hopefully get better but he was a bit brain dead not looking up for a team mate in that situation.

Willian is guilty of it nearly every game he plays, so the same criticism I'd give Willian, Tammy has to get also.

Has Willian ever found himself one on one with the keeper ?

No, of course not. The only player in the world capable of such wonders is Tammy Abraham.

Oh, I was just kidding. The lad is still learning, so we have to be patient, and all that. Love him to bits.

I promise to wait until he hits a really tough goalless stretch and then I'll quote all your ravings about how phenomenal a striker young Tammy is. :laugh2:

He really strikes me as one of those strikers that is far better at finishing when there is no time to think.

For some reason i was never confident he would score when he was through on goal yesterday.

I was thinking of you when he missed, i can live with the odd sitter being missed, it his first proper (Morata level) miss, i think we've seen enough already to know he's got the A game, been unlucky not to score in both games against Liverpool, on another day he would of done, those days are to come.

Don't mean to be a stickler, but how can it be his first proper miss, when he hit the woodwork against United and as you yourself just said was unlucky not to score in both games against Liverpool?

I believe he's improving with every game, even if it doesn't always show in the goalscoring column. Playing is the best form of training, you don't learn anything from the bench. The question is, just how good can Tammy become and how fast this progress will be made. It's probably not fair, but he'll need to convince the club by the end of the season he's the man for the job or at least that he's an important squad option. Scoring goals is the most difficult job in football and the most important one, that's why top strikers are in such high demand. Let's just wait and see.

Proper miss= just the keeper to beat from close range.

All strikers miss a few big chances, it's not possible to score every game. I reckon he kind caught in 2 minds for that 1 on 1 chance, if he went through the pure power, the Gk would have a broken wrist trying to save that. I was more disappointed with the chance Michy missed at the end, had a huge target to hit with a free header, and the GK wasn't going to move.

TBF Abraham is a Young Man playing against seasoned pros - I am sure Abraham will learn how to deal with defenders & how to dishout some pain on them

Whom do we have that scores more often than Giroud? (Premier League) Michy has 12 in 45, Tammy has 5 in 31 and Giroud has 78 goals in 220 appearances. Maybe age is catching up with him because he's absolutely been less effective with us than at Arsenal but that could also be down to playing mess often and with less continuity here. Honest question, did he start two PL matches in a row at any point this season?

Looks like I was right.

That’s interesting, because the second the flag stayed down, I said “that’s a goal”.  Adrian did well reading the shot.  I’m glad he didn’t square it to Mount, it was absolutely the right decision to try and put it home.

I wasnt really bothered with that miss to be fair as I am pretty sure it wouldve been chalked off had he scored, I am sure they wouldve found a camera angle to make him appear offside.

Thought he played well today, just couldn’t get the ball in the net.

Showed some impressive strength on multiple occasions.  Can you imagine Morata handling the physicality that Tammy stood up to today?  Refreshing to have a striker again who will battle.

Definitely, he was a thorn in their side, created chances, and he actually held the ball up well on numerous occasions. I think he needs to read Jorginho a bit better though, Joringho had the right idea and Tammy wasn't in the right areas to hold it up.

I was impressed with his performance, just lacked the goal.
