Makes a bit more sense now... 'Peter Lim, Valencia's Singaporean owner, has a stake in Salford City, the non-league club co-owned by Neville.'

Well that's odd. Phil Neville already works there as the assistant manager, I would have thought he would have been given the nod.

He's always been second best to Gary.

Good luck to him. I am sure he'll now find out it's a lot harder out in the field, rather than in a studio analysing tactical ineptness and mistakes from managers. I do hope he does well though, because it would be nice to have a brit do well managing a top Spanish side.

Buying part of a FC to acquire the manager you want?  The game continues to evolve.....

I think he will do good as a manager, I always thought It was a great move by Hodgson to make him one of his assistants.

Also as others have said, he was the most refreshing pundit in years.

Apparently he felt like had to give it a go and try to prove he can walk the walk as well.

"Sitting on TV talking about coaches these last few years, the time has come for me to stand up. This is a wonderful football club. If I turned down this opportunity, I would have lost some credibility."

It's a huge risk but unavoidable at some stage. In today's paper, a former (un named) Valencia manager said the role was a thankless task and recalled receiving hostile whistling from fans on the day he was presented to them!
