Posted December 18, 20159 yr Now I haven’t seen us in the 60s, 70s & 80s like some have, the dark times, so forgive me for the fact I wasn’t born as early as you and therefore my opinions are worth less. My sincere apologies, but perhaps you could humour me if you will. I feel slightly uneasy at all this talk of booing the players & the board, ripping down signs and boycotting events; I’m concerned at what the potential repercussions will be. I must admit most of the reaction forced upon me has been on Twitter so this may not be the general consensus of the forum. I’ve never been the biggest Mourinho fan but even if this situation was mirrored with Carlo (the success achieved, sound bites given etc) I still wouldn’t like the idea of spitting venom in the clubs’ face. We all know the club is bigger than everyone but the club is pretty much Roman Abramovich, like it or not, if the fans were then we’d have gone into oblivion years ago because we run with our heart, not our head. Modern day football. He’s funded players, Managers and of course this epic new stadium we’re building, if anyone is leaving a dynasty- it’s him. If he walked away tomorrow, would we still be able to stand on our own two feet? Erm, no. Not if you believe the figures published. I don’t know, I just don’t want our fans to turn on the club to such an extent he simply walks away. Despite events yesterday we are the luckiest fans in the world (I think bjd coined that a while ago) when you look at other owners ours, in terms of investment and dedication, is second to none. Investments that has allowed us to win every trophy available and enjoy success those around in the ‘bad times’ thought they’d never see and still probably can’t believe it. Yes voice the discontent, show support for Mourinho, but the last thing I’d want to do is piss of Abramovich to the point he stops allowing us to grow. Maybe I’m overreacting in thinking what the fans do for the remainder of the season will have an impact and he’ll leave… after all people have said that for years, but they’ve said because he’ll get bored, not because he’s become a hate figure. Perhaps to show I appreciate our History and just don’t think of this club as a business I could organise some sort of card for a player who played for us in the 60’s should they ever have serious health problems.
December 18, 20159 yr Instead of all of that I hope each and everyone of us chant the mans name at the weekend. "JOSE MOURINHO...ONE OF OUR OWN!". No abuse, no ill feeling just unanimous support for one of the true legends of this football club. The suits will know exactly how we feel and Jose will know despite not having the backing of the board that we the fans still trust and love the man.
December 18, 20159 yr Well said! Let's have some positivity and look to the future - it's going to be a fun ride with plenty of ups and downs along the way but as long as Roman is around we will be up there with the best of them. We are a long way away from being a self sustaining giant like Man Utd and I don't want us to end up like Liverpool - nearly there but not quite.
December 18, 20159 yr Well said Gem. Some reality check can't hurt, after people have vented their anger, frustration, disappointed, what have you.
December 18, 20159 yr I agree I would rather we sung Mourinhos name repeatedly throughout the next game, than booed the team or the board. Jose is gone and no amount of vitriol will change it. Giving up T.V. subscription or season tickets is an option, but then we'd all be accused of being glory hunters by the media (avoid sky at all costs today I nearly put my foot through the telly this morning) The Chelsea roller coaster, never a dull moment.
December 18, 20159 yr I'd love to see people lucky enough to be at the Bridge tomorrow show their appreciation for Mourinho and everything he's achieved here. Whatever anybody thinks of the decision yesterday he's a massive figure in our club's history and we have some great memories thanks to him.
December 18, 20159 yr I agree we should show our support for José tomorrow. However, if the team turn in a sparkling display I will find it hard to swallow. I wouldn't aim too much at Roman. He probably didn't really have much choice in the end. I just hope he remembers those players who downed tools and ships them out as well.
December 18, 20159 yr Good points well made. I think he ate humble pie by bringing him back and the owners heart is certainly in the right place. Half these American owners wouldn't be able to pick out Sanchez from Walcott or know Aston Villa have won the European Cup.
December 18, 20159 yr Author Well I'm glad I'm not being shot down from a great height like I thought I would be(!), at least not yet. I expect the support to be extremely vocal, however if we were to win 4-0 then I think there would only be a small muttering at FT. But if we draw or lose then it will probably be louder than ever. I think if the players do put on a display then they need to look in the mirror but then again we never really know what's gone on behind the scenes.
December 18, 20159 yr I agree wth all of what you've said Gem but one thing I'd like to pick up on is that if Roman walked away, someone else would come along, we are now a global brand, there would certainly be other suitors around that would pick us up. Whether or not they had the same passion for the club that Roman has grown to have is obviously questionable. That's really the only thing that I could say I wasn't worried about.
December 18, 20159 yr The fact is nobody has any real evidence whether the players got him out or not, so it's best to reserve judgement until we get the full story, if we ever do. Also to some people blaming Roman/the board; if it was another manager other than Jose he would have been sacked so many weeks ago, Jose was given plenty of time and he just couldn't turn it around. We shouldn't rock the boat even more when we are at such a fragile point, we still rely on the players to keep us in the prem, possibly the Champions League and we still have the FA Cup to fight for.
December 18, 20159 yr Nice post gem. I think roman has dealt with the situation much better than he has in the past. He has given Mourinho ample time to turn it around, and even on the face of it, would have kept in in a job had we missed out on champions league football next season. I hope there is no booing of the owner or the players tomorrow, we need to stick together and pull out this, then we can move on. It would have been perfect if Mourinho built a dynasty here, bringing through some local boys to become the next legends, but life's not perfect.
December 18, 20159 yr Jose will definitely be watching the game somewhere, and I think the crowd chanting his name through out will be a nice setiment. A little reminder that the work he has done is very much appreciated.
December 18, 20159 yr I put absolutely no blame on Abramovic, I think the decision was correct for the club even if I feel Jose didn't deserve the core of the blame for Chelsea's problems. I remain furious at Costa and Hazard though.
December 18, 20159 yr Roman Abramovich deserves any criticism he's going to get now, after his (and his board's) actions yesterday, he brought it on himself. From an emotional, personal view, Jose Mourinho is the most popular manager we have ever had and has full support from the entire fanbase. From a cold, objective view, Jose Mourinho is the best and most successful manager we have ever had, one who added to his incredible resume just a few months ago. The disastrous decision they brought on the club yesterday is pretty much a betrayal in the club's loyal following. For a lot of people, that was the last straw and I hope to see a clear and loud statement tomorrow from the Bridge. As for Roman himself, he's a deep pocket, nothing more than that. Chelsea FC are now a world top 5 football club and one of the biggest sport brands worldwide. Roman can go tomorrow and another deep pocket takes over. For now we have a poor man's Florentino Perez leading the club right back to mediocrity, with no exceptional unit of players to bail him out from his appalling decisions and stupidity.
December 18, 20159 yr I don't give a stuff if Roman walks away tomorrow and we languish in the second or third division if his disappearance creates such an event! This club's soul and dignity is diminishing the longer he remains owner. Most of us were supporters of the club before he was owner and we'll be supporters long after he's gone. He isn't the club, the supporters are! Now that's not to say that he hasn't done plenty of positive things for us financially but he's handling of Jose on two occasions and the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo and appointing Rafael Benitez will always leave a bitter taste in my mouth permanently. I appreciate his contribution for the club but too much damage has been done for me to ever truly get behind him and support him 100% unequivocally ever again. In saying that I would prefer the supporters to chant Jose Mourinho's name for 90 minutes rather than booing and jeering at whoever they want to direct their grievances towards.
December 18, 20159 yr All Roman has to do is leave Emenalo hogtied on the Kings Road and all will be forgiven.....
December 19, 20159 yr Roman did what he had to do. Mourinho was tarnishing the club no two ways about it. I don't understand why he couldn't have just been a bit more humble rather than creating his own enemies. I don't blame him for sacking Jose. He brought it on himself. Other clubs would have let him go for his antics with the press which create a negative vibe. But when results are the way they are now you can't argue it. Booing the players or owner is stupid and makes no sense. Is Mourinho bigger than the club?

We're a business. Sentiment and business don't really work together. Keeping Jose to keep the fans happy while we're struggling to get out of 16th place almost halfway in to the season is just unacceptable. That kind of blind faith leads to Arsenal syndrome where the idea this individual is a part of the clubs history and cannot be sacked starts to affect the club's success.

December 19, 20159 yr Jose being sacked should not paper over the cracks that we have some seriously lazy and unappreciative players in our squad. If Roman is foolish enough to give them a clean slate as has been speculated more fool him and us. He needs to clear out a few from this squad and start again.

Mate you honestly didn't expect him to slate or threaten to sell off players when trying to motivate players low of confidence. If anyone is to be sold (which they would after consultation with the new manager), it would be discussed behind closed doors.
December 19, 20159 yr We're a business. It is a business, and no amount of promotion and marketing is going to lead to significant growth of the brand if the on pitch product isn't successful. They made the worst business mistake they could have done, not only because Mourinho is one of the most marketable personalities in the game but because nobody provided the actual success more than him. We're in 16th place because we have a far bigger problem, an attitude problem in the core of the group that the manager identified and wanted to sort out, only to get a bunch of posers in the board pretending to know what's right or wrong for the club more than the man who just delivered big, again. What do you mean by sentiment and business? You're saying that leads to Arsenal but just described the complete opposite. As I mentioned, we had the perfect combination together, the most popular and the most successful in one person. Sentiment and Mourinho are two things that don't match. This is a man who puts himself under immense pressure to deliver big and now. I read things like "Roman brought Jose back for the fans", no, Roman brought Jose back because he's the best in his profession and matches his ambitions, he didn't do a favor to anyone. It just happens to be that this guy has a special connection with the fanbase. What starts to affect the club's success is unqualified workers in important roles and panic decisions full of personal agendas. We had an excuse in 2007, we tried to mask apparent lack of knowledge with inexperience, now? There's nothing. The owner of the club made a move to affect the club's success and failed...Again.

What a truly disgusting post. You really couldn't have painted yourself as more of an entitled brat if you tried. The fact is Jose Mourinho would in all likelihood (near 100% certain) never have managed Chelsea if it were not for Roman Abramovich. You triumphantly state that Chelsea are a top 5 in the world club while at the same time not only dismissing but completely disrespecting the man that is SOLELY responsible for it being so. Not only is he solely responsible for it, he is unique in that he is arguably the only private owner (currently, I would include Jack Walker but I have a strong suspicion you are too young to remember him) in world football that has ploughed fortunes into a club without seeking anything in return be that publicity or returns on said investment. To add to that, the man genuinely loves the club, as does his eldest son who will likely take over the reigns one day. Nothing more than a deep pocket you say? A CLUELESS, SPOILT ENTITLED BRAT I SAY !!!
