Everton v Chelsea FA Cup

Featured Replies

If anyone saw the game today, they would know given this current Chelsea midfield that even if Lukaku was not sold and started this game, HE would have hardly have had any service and would have had to drop deep like Costa did. Also Everton would have had some other good striker who would have scored 2 goals against our dangly defense. We let Steven Naismith score a hatrick against us and we think Everton are good cos of Lukaku ? No folks !!! We are that sh*t !!!!

Spot on, playing Mikel & Matic means we have no drive, just square or backward passes, and neither are great at threading a ball through.

Costa had to go out wide just to get involved in the game.

Different type of players. Costa is a goal poacher who likes the ball played to him quickly, Lukaku likes to smash through defenses. Costa isn't capable of running through defenses like Lukaku, only Fabregas seem's to understand this for us though. Everytime Costa runs through the middle, he is waiting for someone to play it early but it never happens. Willian, Pedro, Hazard, Oscar, Matic, they all take forever to play the ball to him, it's only Fabregas that understands Costa's game. It's a joke really, they have been playing for the team together for 2 seasons now, they should know what type of striker Costa is.

Great post Scott. Costa's potential not being fed by others. Pedro reminds me of a little Jack Russell.

FFS we didn't deserve to lose. We didn't deserve to win either, but what the f*ck did those scouse w*****s apart from kicking our players all evening? And not a foul. The second goal was an offside for a mile, that c*nt of the ref had it against us all night and that shows it. It is a f*cking disgrace from the FA that we go off the Cup like that. Next time I would suggest to do a City and don't bother. Send the youngsters to play against the ref and the rest of the w*nking teams. I am very pissed off with tonight's atmosphere from the BBC to the ref and the Everton f*ckers.

Bunch if spineless players, half of them didn't even look arsed. But all mourinhos fault, not the players, right?

Chin up lad

It's not just that though. If Jose says that Costa is his number one and Lukaku isn't happy with that, then what's Jose supposed to do? The amazing thing is that I doubt this discussion happens if Lukaku doesn't score and it definitely doesn't if that shot from Costa does.

But I understand that didn't happen and recency bias creeps in, so the decision to sell Lukaku is immediately a bad one regardless of the intervening 18 months. Gotta love sports eh?

No mate you've been whinging about how the club has been run since you came onto the site. The selling of Lukaku was a very poor decision no matter how you dress it up. It sums up our transfer policy in the last few years, very short term with now cohesive strategy. Masterminded by Jose and Emenalo. Yes both are to blame for the current shambles. One has gone and maybe the other should now walk too, as would happen in any company that has had its value slashed by inadequacies.

8 games left to play the kids ... we are safe from relegation and don't want to qualify for the Europa league ... therefore, it should be done ...

Unfortunately, I'm not sure Guus will do it ???

This makes absolutely no sense. Sorry mate. Lukaku shouldn't even be shining Drogba's shoes! That man won EVERYTHING for us.

I'm not denying this, but Lukaku has been consistently brilliant from a young age. Drogba is a chelsea legend and up with frank my favourite player. But Lukaku has got going a lot earlier than a lot of strikers did, including drogba. He may well burn out, or take an injury, but if not he can go on to have an amazing career. Whatever you say you cannot argue that mourinho didn't make a mistake selling him.

That doesn't matter, Lukaku should've been given a chance instead of signing Eto'o much earlier

So he shouldnt have gone on loan to develop his game and instead played 30 games a season for us from the get go based off potential?

Im finished trying to reason over whether or not Jose purposely stunted his growth and ignored his value because he had a desire to subvert the club's future. This has been the only season you'd pick Lukaku over our 1st choice striker and now its suddenly Jose's fault we sold him. Get a grip.

The bright side for you people is he'll be leaving Everton soon and he's a Chelsea/Drogba fan so cheer up, he could be playing for us soon

we've 9 games left which include Liverpool, West Ham, Man City, Tottenham and Leicester. I expect these guys to at least find a dignified end to the season which really looks like being JT's last at the Bridge.

but i fear we'll see a complete drop off in effort from the likes of Hazard, Fabregas, Oscar, Pedro, Matic, Ivan, Costa and maybe even Willian who has run his socks off

grim times

Diego Costa is 27. It's not like we signed some old fart to play up front. This is a guy in the prime of his career, he helped us win the league and his transfer fee was massively offset by selling a player who had massive potential and didn't want to play second fiddle, quite understandably.

My issues with this club are numerous but Costa is a very valuable asset and one of the few players who has fight in him, occasionally to excess. He's someone we can build around going forward so I don't think it was that bad a deal in either the short or long-term.

Fair points ... we need someone like Mata or DeBruyne, who get goals and assists for fun from the #10 role ... :)

The frustrating thing is that we had all the pieces to compete the jigsaw ... it just needed some good coaching to put it all together ... not a coach who decided to lose half the pieces in various hissy fits and personal pissing contests vs the likes of Rafa, LvG etc etc ...

the no fear factor that is built into the mental  strength of any  great trophy winning sides as sadly gone from this one...and its a slippery road to mid table mediocrity  where we are now and where we will stay for a while   no  club as the right to year after year of success..its happened before and will happen again    ....

With the prospect of not being in even the Europa Cup looking likely next season, will be very interesting to see what calibre of 'top' players will be enticed to sign for us?.

We just have to hope and pray that players will realise the potential of the future and not the prospect of missing one year of champions league. A lot of top talent would rather come to the prem than play Champions league. Look at Shaqiri, Bayern to Stoke..

Will you give him credit for the Costa signing?

Look, I get why people want to pin everything on Jose. It's easy because he's gone and you want to believe that means we'll move forward. Go for it, but let's at least be fair with the guy's legacy.

He sold Lukaku, he brought in Costa. You want to criticise one transfer I think you have to at least acknowledge the other.

The whole idea of crediting him for Costa opens another can of worms for me I'm afraid. According to some all signings that go well are "Jose signings". Where as all signings that are crap are evil Eminalo and the interfering board messing up Jose's masterplan. For me he's responsible for ALL our signings Good (Costa for the most part), bad (Matic) and awful (Cuardrado).

I'm not pinning everything on Jose and I find it a bit condescending that you say I'm doing so because it's easy, I'm not. I'm blaming him for things that I feel are down to him i.e. the mishandling of Lukaku and the current squad being worse than the one he inherited
