Alvaro Morata

Featured Replies

That was no pen tonight, maybe he had a right to go down as the defender did have a hand on him but he was a bit too theatrical. Shouldn’t have been booked for it though.

Hopefully he will begin to wise up and man up and show a bit of grit and stop falling over at the slightest contact as he is really f**king me off.  I’m sure the refs have him sussed and even when it is a fowl they will be reluctant to give it.

Just a few things...

The only comparison is they are Spanish. Morata despite his poor form lately is scoring at a rate of 1 in 2, Torres was 1 in 5. When Morata's average he's just that, average, Torres (our version) was the worst striker in the league.

He's not scored in 3 or 4 games now so your stat of 1 in 2 means little.

Also powderpuff, even torres didnt go to ground as easy as this guy

Morata has been woeful lately, dress it up how you like.

On the possitiv side he comes to many chances. More confidence is what he need. I'm sure we see lots of good from him. Give the kid some time.

I never said he wasn't, but that's just it, woeful, which is still an upgrade on the anonymous hide and seek sh*t shows Torres treated us too. Funny thing is, he was widely accepted as MOTM when he cost us that game at WHL in 2013.

Torres went to ground in a strong gust of wind. Sometimes it looked like he was playing on roller skates.

Morata is going through a tough spell and he does need to toughen up for the EPL. But... he is only 24 and has done pretty well overall in his first season. Certainly more of a goal threat than Torres ever was. Technically he is quality. He just needs a couple to go in to regain that confidence and belief.

Weak as piss, goes down too easy, but i'm not accepting that he should have been booked twice in 10 seconds for diving and dissent. I can't blame Morata for having a go at the ref, if anybody on here says they wouldn't have done the same thing, you are lying. I guarantee that if Morata was Harry Kane, he would have gotten that penalty, if he was Wayne Rooney or Jack Wilshere, he wouldn't have been booked for dissent.

The ref had VAR to help him make his mind up, instead of using it like a professional, he has completely ignored it and just assumed the player has dived. Why the f**k should the players respect the refs when the refs show no respect to the players ? I would be furious if the ref said i was a diver and didn't even go to VAR.

I haven't been this pissed at a refs performance in a long time, i have been pissed off a lot in recent times, but not as much as tonight. They had everything in place to correct their awful mistakes, and they completely ignored it. VAR has hardly been used in this country, and already the refs are cocking it up.

Agree, I think an ex-striker needs to have a word with him about getting used to the physical side and perhaps bulking up in the gym to get more muscle. Not sure if it is his emotions or confidence yet is finishing poorly.

As I normally follow on BBC text they do state about persistent 'nibbling' by defenders on Morata so he has some justification yet must play to the whistle.

I disagree.  Terribly undisciplined for mine but I think it's up to the manager to set rules about discipline.  Being sent off for dissent is selfish and it can impact the team.

None of those shouts were penalties and they all deserved to be booked.

You think Willian's wasn't a penalty? I can kind of understand questioning Morata's but Willian's???

As for the dissent, everyone would react the same way should they feel the ref isn't doing his job properly. As mentioned above, you see players shouting at officials all the time. I'm not saying it's right, but it always happens. That ref was looking for an excuse to send Morata off, you could see with how quickly he pulled out both cards and refused to check VAR. He wanted some magic of the cup and he almost got it.

Willian lands on both his feet then falls.  It was embarrassing, his was worse than Morata's and I think his face told that story.

I know a lot of players do it but I do see a lot of players get booked for it, so I don't think we get treated any differently.  If I was the manager I'd set disciplinary rules about it because last night looked bad footballing wise and bad marketing wise (not that I ever really think about the latter, but I'm sure that's something the club values).  VAR get's checked concurrently as the game continues and it's not up to the referee to stop and check it until he's been informed something is being checked which they did for the Morata one so not sure that has anything to do with it, as they agreed with the ref.

Lot of people wearing blue tinted glasses.

Had barely been on the pitch two minutes last night and he was falling to the floor and protesting to the ref when he didn't get a foul.

Fell over the ball and then hand balled it, feeling entitled to a free kick not much after that.

Maybe could have been given the penalty but he's 6ft something and without a goal in 5 appearances going into the game last night. Use some strength and get yourself into a scoring opportunity. Instead he chooses to flop to the deck because he felt contact.

Boy needs to start staying on his feet more because his constant falling over and protesting to officials is getting tiresome to watch. Man up, play the game and score some f**king goals.

The defender said it was a penalty. Was he wearing blue tinted glasses too?

Yeah he said "I think I caught him", he doesn't have the view we had (well I had on TV) or the ref, or the VAR ref, or the commentators or anyone else for that matter.  Just because you think something doesn't make it so.

Unless of course he saw the footage after and thinks that is the case, in which case he's entitled to think so, but I don't believe him less or more than anyone else.

I'm going to guess he has a considerably better idea of whether it was a penalty or not than you, I or the commentators do. He doesn't have to see it and analyze, he was the one actually commiting the foul.

Not always the case.  To use another analogy, just because you think you nicked it in cricket doesn't mean you did.  You only have perception enough as a human before others have a better view.  Anyway, that's getting quite deep, he's entitled to think it was a pen as much as you or anyone else is.  I flat out think it was diving, he might had a little contact but he is on two feet when he's realised that and gone down.

You're entitled to your own opinion. It's just not worth as much as the opinion of the actual players involved.

“On the pitch I was not sure because it happened so fast. When I saw it again afterwards I was like ‘ooh, that’s quite close’.
He's made his opinion the same why I have mate, so it doesn't really differ.  Cheerio

By the way, I remember starting a long thread in the old Shed End forum back in 2005 (?) in Drogba's first season and the title was "Drogba is hopeless". I seem to remember most posters agreeing with me that we bought a moanbag with a touch of a donkey who spends most of his time falling to the ground and complaining to the referees. Sounds familiar?

No because Morata actually has a very good first touch :)

but i take you're point. People really need to show a bit of patients with the lad, first season in English football, first season as the main and ONLY man (lets face it) goals either come through him or hazard or not at all, this is the problem. THis is the first time he will have had to deal with being in the spotlight during a period of bad form, every player has to deal with it and so will he, it's the job of conte to help him with that

And Didier had better players around him, too. That helped.

Why are you only quoting half what he said?

"I think the first one on Willian is a pen. I’m brutally honest there. I think I caught him.

On the pitch I was not sure because it happened so fast. When I saw it again afterwards I was like ‘ooh, that’s quite close’. I guess you can give it."

Because that's the part that relates to how he came to his opinion? Which is what we were talking about?  Come on mate don't make me spell it out for you.  I'd also paraphrased the above line two posts earlier.  Maybe next time buddy.

If he admits to having known it was a penalty on the field, the inevitable next question is going to be 'Why didn't you own up to it?'. What he said is about the closest you're ever going to get to a defender admiting he should have given a pen.

Obviosly this stuff is all subjective, and I'm not trying to pick an argument with you, I'm just confused by why you seemed so determined it wasn't a pen. The defender made contact in the box, said himself afterwards that it should have been a pen, and although Willian went down a bit easy, he's entitled to when there's contact. If he stays up, we know from bitter experience that no pen is ever awarded.
