Romelu Lukaku

Yeah it's really strange. At least with Pogba you are getting a player who can and will improve in his early 20's but Higuian is coming on 29 and isn't at the level of your Aguero's or Suarez's.

It's a safe bet in the league I suppose as he's well suited to the Italian league and the slower pace is ideal for him but I don't think He's going to take them up a level.

They also get the added benefit of poaching the biggest players in their league, because they are the wealthiest.  Much like Munich in Bundesliga, and the top two in bbva.  Not only is the EPL more competitive on the field than all these leagues, but also in financials.  We can't just go around and snatch up every good epl player...

Signing Higuian is just about sealed the Series A title for the upcoming season before a ball is kicked. I don't think Juventus is worried about what could happen after 3 years, they are focused on winning the CL this season. Last 2 seasons they had their chances, but ultimately let down by their strikers, they aren't taking that chance this season.

Lukaku will probably cost around 60M if not more, I doubt we will negotiate with Everton again, after what happened last season.

What, when we tried to sign one of their players using a flawed bidding strategy and went public about the whole thing throughout ?'

Even in today's inflated market Lukaku isn't worth £60m. I'd rather we stuck with Costa and the young attacking players we have at the moment and spent heavily at the back. Lukaku dithers under pressure. He's just too inconsistent. If we're looking for potential we should stick with Solanke and/or Traore for a season and see how they do. I think Costa, along with a few other players, will be happier this season and we'll get more out of him. I'd even give Remy another season as substitute striker. We leaked goals like a Tetley Teabag last season and if we stop that we should get top 4.

I'd give Traore and Solanke a crack for sure. Both have an eye for goal and they need a run to step up to the next level. We have to do something with our youth players other than loan them and I'd rather play them than buy Lukaku or *shudder* Cavanni.

Didn't Martinez go public about it first?

God only knows. Market madness? Anyway the blue-dippers are apparently holding out for... wait for it... *drum roll* £75m [emoji23]

Of course. If highway went for that why should not theit player?

Sure lukaku could have helped us won the league back when we only had torres & eto but then the idea of resigning a player that we sold for twice as much than we let go is simply stupid.. madrid did well with morata and we should be doing that in the future, putting a reasonable buyback clause..

NOw, I'd rather we try uncover the unknown gem rather than spending ridiculous money on someone who's not even world class..

express, mail, and standard now reporting we're going to make a 60mil bid

if these reports are indeed true and with atleti having signed another striker squashing the costa rumor, we really bought batshuayi for 33 million just to be a bench player  :face_palm:

If Lukaku comes here you have to believe Costa is off.

Bats could easily take a season to adjust to the epl and having 3 strikers wouldn't necessarily resign one of them to the role of bench player. Just as easily could be Costa who loses his place rather than Bats

If Costa is off and we get Lukaku its better than no replacement but I do not think Lukaku is the right kind of player to replace Costa if Costa is to leave. I know he scores goals but he disappears when it gets tough and I'm not saying Costa doesn't ever (there's not a player in the world who doesn't have off days) but Costa has proven himself when the games are tough.

Thing is, Lukaku is only good when running into space. His movement and touch is poor in close, tight games. I know why we're trying to get him because of his goal output but it doesn't make sense give that most of the games we'll be playing will be against teams defending deep.

It's like when Spurs signed Darren Bent then didn't play to his strengths, it won't work unless you're going to adapt your system to that player. It's like they went oh he scores goals we'll bring him in to our system. A player can be a great goal scorer but take away what makes him score those goals and they'll dry up quickly.

Absolutely 100% bang on that, Lukaku is terrible with his back to goal, his first touch is often very poor and many attacks break down on him.

Lukaku's poor first touch is greatly exaggerated, especially compared to costa who also isnt the most technical either. Everton had more of the ball than their opponents in most games season, and it didnt stop him scoring for them. Its not like teams defend on the 18 yard box against us these days either!

He shows plenty of good touches in that game, which is from over a year ago, and he has improved further since. He is such a big lad that when it goes wrong, it looks clumsy, but he isnt this donkey that people are trying to make out.

You would hope that he would improve with world class coaching which is something he hasnt had too oftem in his career so far, having played under, the likes of martinez, pulis, wilmots etc.

I dont want costa to go but lukaku would be a decent replacement, we will pay through nose as always, but i think he will score goals here.

I am not a fan of Lukaku, if we buy him to lead our attack and offload Costa i don't know what to say about our ambition and targets next season. I can't see us in top 4 with Lukaku leading the line, sorry.

Looks like Costa wants to go so that is why. Probably Costas wife hasn't settled if I had to guess.

It's a mess becoz we really should be focussed on defenders not the striker.

Not really a fan but if any player feels he can't be arsed when the chips are down then I would gladly join his bandwagon if he truly desires to play for us.Hes young and can improve understand the guidance of an excellent man-management coach like AC.

Noooooooooooooooooo an absolute No, whether Costa goes or not... a big fat No.  I would not give those slime buckets from Merseyside one penny....No.  For 60 mill if that is the number there will be someone else out there, in a league somewhere.......or give the kids a chance, they are hungry, quick and talented.
