Michy Batshuayi to Chelsea

It was more then obvious after the charity shield game against Arsenal that Batshuayi is no target striker. Morata did much more in 15 minutes in that game, then Batshuayi did in 75min. For me it should have been an easy decision to start Morata today and I don't buy the excuse about him lacking understanding how we play, atleast not when Boga was starting as well.

I get where you are coming from, but if we start Moratta over Michy without giving Michy a chance, it would have been a major blow to Michy's psychology. Also, If Moratta started and he did not play so well, then that will be a double whammy. Ideally Michy should have been subbed in the second half.  But for the long run, I feel like if Conte is not going to play a 2 stiker system and Costa is never going to come to the Chelsea squad, we NEED a new striker with hold up strength with Michy being loaned out.

So want this kid to do well. Massive respect for him last year. Never moaned. Always smiling. Always looked involved in backing the team when he was on the bench. Tried his heart out when he came on. I was happy as Larry when got some real reward at the end of the season.

Still have hopes for him but he really, really needs to improve his hold-up play. Physically it shouldn't be a problem. He ain't Drogba's but he ain't Jody Morris either. A player his size should be able to hold his own.

As some one who has been backing him quite voccally , have to eat a bit of humble pie and clearly conte knows what he's talking about. Michy has a lot of great attributes and could be some player but right now as you say his ability to hold the ball up and bring his team in to the game was exposed today, needs to work on it

Sorry to say but it was probably one of the worst performances i have seen from a Chelsea-striker in a long time. He was just as bad before the redcard as after as well so that doesn't fly as an excuse. Not running into space(Cesc gave him a verbal for that at least once) and lost the ball pretty much every single time.

I honestly believe we would have won the game if Morata was subbed on when Cahill was sent off. And while he shouldn't be blamed for the defence falling apart it didn't excactly help that we could never keep the ball up the field allowing Burnley to just pummel us with wave after wave and that was mostly Bats fault.

Get him on the training pitch all week long, stick him just outside the D back to goal and get the whole academy pinging and zipping in balls to his feet.

And don't stop until he gets 90% of the balls under control.

Of course. Its easy to see why Conte reportedly wanted Llorente, Bats all round game just isn't good enough to start for us, he's very static, fails to create space for others by intelligent runs across the line and his hold up play is no existent. Morata has to start from now onwards.

Batshuayi is not good enough a striker for us - a total lack of awareness, poor first touch ( which can't be taught) and a lack of technical skills.  He was bought merely based on so-called potential and nothing more. The board made a mistake in buying a striker that doesn't fit the lone striker ethos of the club.

His hold up and link up play was good in pre season against Arsenal, Bayern and Inter, not sure what happened today, but it felt like the difficulty of the occasion got to him and the crowd groaning every time he messed up just made him more nervous and mesd up even more.

He was poor yesterday no doubt. Needs to be smarter with his back to goal. When goes up to him he needs to get his body in front and win the free kick. He also played 1 touch far too many times, I actually think it was because he was scared to get a kick.

The very 1st ball that went morata, he takes to go long, and came short, which gave him time to turn and get a shot away. It was great movement.

Batshuayi has a lot to learn, but he is also adapting to the premier league, that was his 1st competitive start in the league, and he was pretty isolated in that 1st half.

Marko Marin and Yossi Benayoun among others have looked like world-beaters for us in pre-season. One really can't put to much weight in it.

He simply cannot keep the Ball and take the pressure off us like Costa did and now Morata he's not a lone striker material

Costa couldn't do that either though. Costa was there to close the ball down and bully defenders. Ping the ball into his feet and he was losing it every time.

It wasn't that good. He just scored a few goals and people tend to overlook your overall performance when you score.

Plus, it was preseason, and you can't judge a player based on that. He was never convincing when called upon in official games and Conte didn't trust him to lead the line even when Costa was consistently poor. Costa playing at 50% was still the preferred option over fit and willing Batshuayi. That tells you all you need to know. He's just not an intelligent player with some serious technical flaws. They even pointed out his lack of movement at MOTD. He can't hold up the ball, can't pass and not a good dribbler and his movement is non-existent. He just stands there. He may be a good poacher in the penalty area but the way Chelsea play we need our striker to do a whole lot more than that.

Agree. This was his chance to claim his spot and fight morata for the position and he blew it.

An over-priced youngster who possibly has some potential.  Looked way out of his depth yesterday and blew his chance to impress.

Yes, it's wonderfully humble for him to recognise his own faults on Twitter but... he cost us a lot of money and he is almost certainly a very well paid young man.  He's paid a lot of money to perform not to reflect on his *iss poor performance.  The lad needs to pull his finger out.  No apologies for being blunt but I get fed up with this bleeding heart nonsense - these players are paid astonishing amounts of money for their skill and for pulling their tripe out for their club on the pitch.  From Michy yesterday I saw neither.

I hope to Christ that Morata can lead the line for us this season.  With big ambitions we need big players.  Michy is currently not in that camp.  I can't imagine him in pole position at the Two Manc's, Barca, Real, Bayern etc.  They are the teams that we need to give a bloody nose to not some second rate outfit who won one on the road last season and yes, he was probably under-served due to the absence of Hazard & Pedro but at least he could have put a shift in.

Underwhelming!

Disappointed to read disgusting comments about Michy's own goal. Even if we were losing because of his mistake, do we have to kill him for that?

I felt so bad when he scored the own goal, he tried to defend and help the team. Mistakes happen to everyone, you have no idea how to be in his place at that moment.

I really hope that we all will support him after that, not only we, Conte as well.

They would have scored anyway, they had 2 players coming in behind him. We always struggle defending freekicks from that sort of position.

All teams do. That delivery was pretty much perfect; Either Michy goes for it, scoring an own goal, managing to get it behind for a corner or Coutois produces a worldie, or Alderwiereld scores, misses a sitter or Courtois produces an absolute worldie. either way that ball is what 50% likely to score.

Erikson has an unbelievable delivery. We have conceded 6 goals against spurs under conte, Erikson has scored 1 and assisted 5!
