This sounds more than ridiculous, but apparently the Telegraph have claimed that Michael Essien could re-sign for Chelsea. He played in a closed doors friendly against Brentford on Wednesday and apparently he could "impress" Conte enough to sign. Trust me, I find this as stupid as the next fan, but it's a rumor, and it's out there. He's only training until he gets a new club, but yea...

Can't really see how he would get any sort of game time, tbh. He's still 33 so not completely finished. Essien was a real favourite of mine, still makes me smile seeing him but I don't see the point. (Sounds very far fetched of course, like you say.)

I'd think he's just training with us until he finds a new club.

Unfortunately his knee injuries ruined him as the dynamic CM he was.

Glad the club has given him use of the facilities though!

Absolute legend, scored my top two Chelsea goals of all time (v Barca and Ars). Another player we never replaced successfully.

I love Essien as much as the next guy (pretty sure I've had this avatar since I joined the site over ten years ago) but it would be silly of us to bring him back, even he's just back up to our back ups.  I love the guy though, and I hope he finds a new club and does well there.

Why would you want him as a coach? Because he used to be a good player? Essien was always someone who relied on his physical attributes. He was never that great positionally and never stood out as someone who was a smart footballer. Thats why he completely fell of a cliff when his physical attributes deteriorated. I cant see what he would bring to a coaching role.

How a player was on tge pitch doesnt neccessarily have any bearing on how he will coach.

someone who could play multiple positions, in a well drilled team, wasn't great positionally and wasn't a smart footballer? Ok

Phil Neville used to play all over the park for United.

Just saying.

yes and he was also a smart footballer who was good positionally. Especially when you factor in the fact he was never quick or very athletic, i remember him having Vieira in his back pocket playing as a DM for Man United,

I'll never forget that goal he scored against Arsenal in 2005/2006, I think it was? He smashed the ball and it had some mad swerve on it and nestled int the top corner

Yep, easily his best goal imo.  He knew it was in the moment he hit it.  He was running off in celebration before it hit the back of the net, haha.

I preferred his volley against barca. Although it wasnt a game any of us would like to remember.

I think had we won that (without being cheated...AGAIN) it would have been his stand out goal but because of what happened most tend to try and block out that game for obvious reasons.

That game made me hating Barcelona so much, I will never forget that dirty referee and that dirty Barcelona. I was so proud to look at Chelsea after that game.
