In my mind signing Sanchez could probably convince Conte to stay another year as he'd have a fantastic front three to work with then.

If Mourinho gets him and with City already having a huge advantage in terms of squad i don't see any way he'd want to stay.

If we were going to enter the race there would be a lot more news floating about.  I suspect we have possibly spoken to his people and decided his wage demands are not what we want to pay.

Antonio Conte says cut-price Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal a good deal

 

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte says it would be a good investment to buy Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal this January for a fraction of his worth.

Sky Sports News understand Manchester City are unwilling to pay more than £20m for the player whose deal at Arsenal expires in the summer, while title rivals Manchester United also want to sign the Chile international.

Conte, who revealed he attempted to sign Sanchez while at Juventus, believes the 29-year-old is one of the top players in the world and admits he is a big fan of the former Barcelona forward.

"He's a great player and he knows very well that in my first season in Juventus we tried to buy him from Udinese and then he decided to go to Udinese," said Conte.
"I have great admiration for great players, I think Alexis Sanchez is one of these players.

"If Manchester City want Alexis Sanchez, they buy Alexis Sanchez and they don't have problem.

"I think it's a good investment because we are talking about a top player and I'm hearing that the amount is around £20m. If you buy Alexis Sanchez with a normal price maybe 80 or 90 million euros."

I wouldnt say sanchez is worth double kanes salary..

but imo if kane is willing to go to a big team like madrid he wud get 400k pw.. and i think city are not going to give more than 300k pw to sanchez..

it will be his own choice to stick with spurs for whatever loyalty reason and win no trophies obviously!!

Mahrez is good too.. But IMO Sanchez is clearly another level..

We need to look at short term goals as well..And I think he has atleast 2 good years left in him anyway..

I'd offer Sanchez parity with Hazard. Supposedly we're offering Eden 300 pw, I seriously doubt that 400 pw rumour for Sanchez. If it was true, Hazard's agent would ask the same. So it's logical to assume if we tie Hazard to a new wage in a new contract, it'll be on the kind of terms that current market dictates, so Sanchez is in the same boat.

We've saved plenty of money while penny pinching over the last few years with our 'sell one to buy one' strategy. With the new sponsorships kicking in this year we can afford to spend some cash. Conte said Alexis fee is 20m, add the wages for let's say three year contract and while it's a sizeable sum, it's not exactly cost prohibitive. Just like Antonio said, a player like that in today's market would be worth 80-90m (well at his age maybe a bit less, but still), if it wasn't for his contract situation. He wouldn't have to move and Chelsea certainly showed more ambition and won more significant trophies than Arsenal since he came to England. Even of it doesn't work out, what have we got to lose?

This situation reminds me of an episode of Mad Men where the ad agency dumped their client, a small time airline to go after a big shark - American Airlines. They ultimately fail in their pursuit, but one of the bosses says afterwards something like, it's OK, it was worth it, people think differently of us now. That's what's bothering me about our current state of affairs, not only we fail to land any significant targets we seem to be chasing lately, quite often we're not even in the mix to get them. And when it happens for a few years, people start thinking differently about the club; fans, agents, even players themselves eventually would stop considering Chelsea as a possible destination for a top class footballer because their reputation of penny pinching organization that can't sign any big money targets precedes them.

Chelsea have had good youth development for ages now, how many of them play in the first team? Can't see that suddenly changing quickly.

The problem is that the ones who are not RLC, Tammy quality are never going to be good enough. And then when it comes to the likes of RLC, the club must decide - play less games here or raise their profile and experience at another club. So in that specific case, if RLC never fulfills his talent then at least the club has an option to make money or use him as a squad player. If he just stays at Chelsea, hardly playing, then the option to make significant money disappears.

Looks likely he'll end up at United now. f**k it, there was a time when we could stop players going to United. They already have Lukaku, Rashford, Ibra & Martial. Sanchez would be almost guaranteed a starter if he came to us.

I'll be gutted if he goes there and that'll probably mean they finish above us 

I'm surprised our board didn't go after him considering he's only going 35m. I mean even though our board has become cheap in recent years, the 30-40m range hasn't been difficult for them. I guess us not being able to afford his wages is the likely reason for not going in for him.
