Well, wait till next season and you will see us struggle with the Matic/Kante combo. We are getting away with it this season because we are on top of the table and most of the players are on top of there game to keep us on top. So just be patient, next season is just some months away.

Or maybe we're on top of the table because of this combination...

2 points lost, but wasn't that bad of a result. This match was the poster child of '  a Cold Wet Night at Stoke ( or Burnley),  condition was difficult to play passing football, narrow pitch, and they defended well, didn't lost shape for one moment after out goal. We were poor, just run out of ideas against a well organised defensive unit on a slippery pitch. I thought that was another poor performance from Costa, just never got to the position he needed to be. Hazard/Pedro/Willian all had a few runs at them, but the last pass never clicked. Match gave us what we expected, not a lot, almost cost us a goal with another sloppy pass. Defensively we were ok, not much could be done about that free kick. I suppose leading the table by 8 points is still pretty good, and City's defence could crack any day.

Like many teams in the league, we struggle against a well organised two banks of four. We score most of our goals on the break when those 8 players are out of their defensive shape. That's why Conte keeps Matic and Kante together in the middle, to hunt the ball down and catch them out of shape.

Fair point. I actually think he should have started with Fabregas today. I know Burnley are a physical side but they didn't pose any real threat on the counter attack to exploit Fabregas' defensive deficiencies; they bypassed the midfield a lot by playing it long. We could have really used Fabregas from the start to establish a rhythm to our play, something which we never managed to do throughout the entire game.

question about the foul on Barton leading up to the goal - it appeared to me that Barton fell over on Matic's back leg - Matic didn't even kick out, but the ref deemed that a foul - did anyone think differently of the call?

Couldn't tell from the only camera angle they showed, but the ref was right on the spot so you have to trust him on that one.

I thought the foul was more often a tangle between 2 players, referee blew the whistle in favour of them, which happens sometime, no real complain there. We were too slow in transition against a good defensive unit, and there was no great individual brilliance to bail us out. For heaven sake, please play Cesc against Swansea next Saturday.

the problem is I don't trust Kevin Friend - I have seen him be a buster to CFC too many times @coco & @icecoolguy22 thanks for the feedback - I didn't like the call then the goal came immediately after that - I know it was at Turf Moor & the result was ok, but man that weakass call really unsettled me, especially after all of the none calls friend seemed to let that punk ass barnes get away with - still when I think about where CFC were a year ago & where we are today - I just smile & enjoy the show that Don Antonio & the lads are giving me now

Dont understand the negativity on here. Burnley deserved a point. They had a plan, stuck to it and it worked like a charm. We tried to adapt going to a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-4-2, but could not get much purchase.

Yes, some aspects of our game were disappointing. I also think that Pedro and cesc could/should have made their GK work more often with their shots. But all in all, Burnley have the 3rd best home record in the league and they showed why.

Not happy but Content with a point. A tough point. And thats what we deserved. With Spurs losing we might have gained a point on atleast the 3rd placed team. Lets hope bournemouth can get something off city.

We didn't play well.

Fair play to Burnley. They had a plan and stuck to it. I was a bit dismissive of their home record before yesterday.

I can now see why it is good.

Sometimes it doesn't come off for you.

Yesterday seemed like a cup tie at Burnley, not a league fixture. Burnley and their supporters were so up for this game.

I think whatever the result you'll get some negative comments from some people, that's the whole nature of a forum like this. People come here to express their opinion of the game and sometimes their opinions differ from yours, it doesn't mean that they're right or wrong in what they say, just an opinion. God forbid we should get like the Gooners or the dippers who seem to think they have a God given right to win every game they play, sometimes the opposition just scrap and defend well enough to deny an obviously more skillful outfit the opportunity to win a game, this happens on numerous occasions throughout a season, we've seen it plenty of times in the past and will do again in the future, so let's just point to the fact we're a point better off at the end of the weekend than we were at the start and in spite of a less than sparkling performance in crappy conditions against a difficult to break down, well organised unit, we should take a reality check on what Antonio & the team have achieved since the Emirates back in September. I for one, can take this result without too much difficulty and say well done lads, carry on with the good work and short of a major implosion, we "SHOULD" be a happy bunch come the end of May. :good2:

Doesn't appear to be a MOTM thread?

First half for me was Hazard. He was brilliant and everywhere and Burnley struggled to pick him up. Second half he was almost invisible although not too many of our players stood out second 45. Overall I would have to give it to Luiz. Bar the one moment in the second half where the ball went through him and it looked like Burnley were clear through for a one on one, bar that, I thought he was immense, especially as he is clearly struggling with that strapped up knee. He deserves a couple of weeks rest which he should hopefully now get.

A bad day it was yesterday!  Burnley fought hard and deserved their point!  I am gutted but still optimistic.  I can't help but worry about City being 8 points off us - they are starting to look good and looking at their January all round performances - I think we need to work hard and not drop points like we did today!!

Costa looked aweful today and so did Alonso.  I think Fabregas coming on added a good attacking threat which we probably lacked in the second half.  Hazard had a brilliant first half but second half he seemed to be just stuck in the Bournemouth box, perhaps the cold weather got the better of him!  I think it might have been better to have Pedro as the SS and Hazard on the left in that situation.

I love Diego Costa but at times, like yesterday It may be better to play false 9 like we did when Costa was out against Bournemouth.  We really needed runners like Pedro did for the first goal and that earlier Hazard chance.  May have been an option to do Willian Hazard Pedro.

Overall a point is still not bad, the game was tough and the weather didn't help! 100% happy with the team but just afraid of City!! Come on Chelsea - lets win the next games and kill off any hopes the opponents may have!

Disgusted with that yesterday but mainly the performance. Burnley might have the 3rd best home record in the league but our performance yesterday was, IMO, our worst of the season.

Burnley had the 2 best chances when it was`1-1 we created nothing of note after they scored apart from a few fluffed effort. It was far too comfortable for Burnley. Luiz and Courtois the only Chelea players to perform to a decent level.

You cant do much about Bradys free kick but I'm sure Conte would have told them dont give away stupid free kicks in dangerous areas with Brady and Barton in the side.

Costa has been brutal now for a few games, and today, it was close between him, Matic and Hazard for who was our worst performer, Pedro ran them close too but at least he scored early.

At the start of this 3 game run, Pool, Arsenal and Burnely I would have taken 5 points but its so disappointed that we under performed against a bunch of thugs like Burnely, they played to the conditions, the howling wind and sleet and the pitch that was so bad you wouldnt see it in Sunday league. I'd love if they went down from Dyche down Barnes and Barton, its a team full of c**ts.

Conte didn't know who Joey Barton was.

Still doesn't

Cold and wet, especially row K and forward! But an enjoyable day out. Thanks to the chap in the cricket club for the ticket...FV and he would not take a beer either.

I thought they were too slow at times., looking better when they passed quickly and ran. Then they seemed to just slow it down again. Matic made a few errors and should have gone off earlier. Kante was great...a wonderful signing. He just works his socks off.

What are those red, white and green scarves some of our even more northern friends were wearing?

I was disappointed but come on 'disgusted'? We didn't get a pasting or even lose the game for goodness sake.

Look at Burnley's home record, this was clearly a game we were going to have a big chance of struggling in. We have no god given right of winning these games and as poor as we were in attack they only really created one good chance bar the freak free kick which we couldn't do anything about.

Perspective...

I think Burnley home record is due to the narrow pitch and sh*t conditions that suit the butcher tactics they play, rather than anything else, very hard for a good team to get tempo under poor conditions and being hacked silly, still after scoring in the 6th minute I thought we would have taken the result, in retrospect add the conditions, the way they played like dirty bar stewards, the freak free kick you can see why we got a point...calmed down a lot since yesterday, not ideal but need to go on a strong run again make sure city don't get any ideas.

Must of read a dozen comments about the ‘negativity on here’, you're always going to get some fans who are more pessimistic than others, it's the same on any forum.

In the game their were five professional fouls, we committed one of them, Burnley four, none of them were the last man, and only three were booked, most in the 2nd half. The kind of fouls i'm talking about are usually just a trip or push of some kind.

My gripe is this, if the referee selectivity books players, so as to keep it 11 v 11 for the whole 90 mins, you see even more professional fouls committed later on, it gives every player a free hit.

If the official gets the book out early on and starts showing cards (when they should be shown) instead of trying to calm things down by having a word with 2-3 players on each team before the book comes out. Then we may see the players less likely to commit the professional foul, and more likely to get sent off if they do.

One of the fouls was on Hazard in the first half, he had his heels clipped from behind, the Burnley player knew what he was doing, he should of been booked for it, but he wasnt, and later on he committed another professional foul, which he was booked for.
