Cool.  I'll look forward to it, although I'd rather it ends - Have we signed Alex Sandro yet? YES we have!

Believe me, I hope I get to say it.

Ambition in 2004 was mainly win the league and CL. Agreed the club is different from 2004, but our ambition should not be the same now ?. really ?.

Well I would like Chelsea to win the CL again as well as the league, which would require signing top quality players to improve the squad. As I mentioned we have bought and sold, leaving our net spend very low in comparison, so why not throw a crazy bid at Sandro (£60-70 million) we can't get every player at a lower price, sometimes you have to pay what is required for top quality. Man City amongst others have shown this.

We should still be going for titles for sure but once you've spent nearly a billion pounds and win the biggest one for the first time it's harsh to expect the board/owner to continue going all out at every turn again and again. Especially since we're no longer the richest club around and we're trying to turn a profit. City won't continue spending 200m a summer when/if they win the CL, that seems like a big goal to tick off the list. It's also worth mentioning we're talking in context of Conte building a sqaud he wants so it behooves us to spend a little more now and dial it back once he's got the majority of the squad in place.

I'm thankful Roman and his staff are still around working hard to improve the club and frankly I don't see PSG or City's owners doing the same after the above scenario.

I think we see a couple more signings before too long, as you mentioned our net has been very balanced especially when compared to both Manc clubs and that's something that doesn't get brought up when you see the transfer spending 'graphics'.

My hesitation with Sandro from the beginning has been that there's no indication they want to sell and that he's pushing for a move. Put in a final bid of 80m and then move on

The board won't do that if they did we would get him tomorrow, city would, not us we will tinker around trying to get a "bargain" adding a million here and there until either they are pissed off or the window ends.

We are going to get ripped off either way just f**king bite the bullet and make a bid too good to refuse.

That's why City buy 3 wingbacks/full backs in one window, all of whom we wanted and yet we get f**k all and they get the lot.

If it wasn't for us pulling off morata it would be another underwhelming window, to let a rival get 3 players we are linked to and apparently made offers on 2 of them in positions so critical to us is very poor.

Sometimes, I think the negotiating team would do better if they took a look at transfers by stepping back a bit and look at the big picture. When the season ended, there were varying rumours of Sandro costing £52m. There was and will always be a price for each commodity and Juve asked that. But our negotiating team loves playing the bargain game for every player and what it accomplishes is introducing emotional factors into negotiations. They said 52 but we'll buy at 47 or whatever hypothetical number, to us it may seem like a good value but it antagonizes the selling club delaying the time needed for that club to look at replacements and negotiate other deals. Juve has a good scouting system, they'll know who to bring but in looking for bargains and steals, we delayed that negotiation.

They're all adults, they'll feel that we disrespected them because of the quality of the player and the importance of him to the team. The same issue when Arsenal bid 40m+1 for Suarez, the sheer audacity of it is what makes a selling club be turned off by that.

Your argument would work had we matched the fee said to be quoted in the first place. They'll have enquired it and a figure must have been quoted or else Juve won't be coming out with statements like "It's up to the player to decide or whatever", they'll say "We will not let him go" if they were really not considering the bid. Juve will sell if they match a price but they want to maintain their image as well but if our team went about it not being serious at all by bidding lower than the quoted fee, it makes the job of them rejecting it much easier. It's even worse now that City have inflated the market for fullbacks and with the time left and the poor showing our wingbacks had done in the pre-season, it only serves to give the selling club more power. They're not desperate to sell but they will and they have done that numerous times in the past all it takes is for us to approach them seriously and if they said no then that's it but this negotiating team doesn't seem to do that at all. We don't approach things seriously enough after a PL title win. Look at the summers of 2016 and 2014, the negotiating came in and paid the fee at the first time of asking for Kante, Fabregas, Diego Costa, Luiz and Alonso.

When push comes to shove, this negotiating team always crumble and just chuck money at it anyway so why bother dragging out negotiations for key areas in the first place?

And before you say Allegri came out and said Sandro is not for sale, Juve doesn't operate like that. What matters is what Agnelli and Marotta say in the matter or else Conte would still be a manager there.

So lets agree to disagree on this matter

Sorry, I'm fed up with this nonsense. How do you know what the board do or don't do? How on the face of this planet are you able to tell us the size of the picture they look at? You honestly believe the drivel you've written here?

The board know: -

  • The manager's wishes.
  • The owner's wishes.
  • Who they have or have not bid for.
  • Which of those players are, or are not, interested in joining.
  • The precise response to any offers we've made
  • Which of these offers has been conclusively rejected or withdrawn.
  • The size of the budget at their disposal, and the reason it is set at that level.
  • Of any future deals which may be in the pipeline, and which may influence decisions this summer.
  • And many other pertinent details.

 You know: -

And you want to measure the size of of the picture see against against the size of the one they look at? Funny.

As for your Arsenal example, I'm affraid you've just fallen for the heard mentality reaction, and, as so often, the heard view is stupid. You constantly argue that there is a price and that we should pay it. PSG were told of Neymar's buyout clause, they paid it. They didn't tell Barcelona that they wanted to avoid insulting them so they were offering an extra €5m just to be polite. When you buy your Pierre Cardin suits, you don't check the price and then offer them a couple of hundred more. Arsenal were told that bids in excess of £40m would trigger a clause so that's what they bid. It was the information given to them by Suarez's people which was duff, not the bid. They thought there was a price and offered to pay it. I'd have thought you'd have been praising them.

We're no strangers to Juve

You know the price and so do I

A 5 year contract’s what I'm thinking of

We wouldn’t bid this much for any other guy

But I have to tell you how I'm feeling

Gotta make you understand

Never gonna sign him up, never gonna get him down

Never gonna see this number 12 in royal blue

Never gonna try to buy, never want to say goodbye

But I’m never gonna tell a lie, it won’t come true

We've known this player for so long

Conte’s heart's been aching, but

Marina too shy to see it

Inside, we both know what's been going on

Turin’s put up a price and we’re afraid to pay it

And if you ask me how I'm feeling

Don't tell me you're too blind to see

Never gonna give him up

Never gonna let it down

Never gonna piss about then sign Bertrand

Never gonna make Roman whine

Never gonna force Conte to resign

Never gonna go a second year with Alonso

Never gonna give him up

Never gonna let it down

Never gonna become a selling club like Arsenal

But we’re never gonna find a way

Never gonna see him on deadline day

Never gonna find a way to buy Sandro

(Ooh, giving up)

(Ooh, giving up)

Think we’ll have to give, think we’ll have to give

 (Just give him up)

But I’m never gonna give, never gonna give

(Give him up)

I completely understand your points, however if we don't improve year on year we will stagnate and drop down the table. So sorry, no I do not believe it is harsh to expect the club to upgrade year on year if we want to at least stay in the top 4.

We can at least agree on Sandro, put in a bid to make Juve think about it and force their hand one way or other.

All well and good but we know

other than bakyoko who already looks injury prone we haven't signed anyone that's potentially an improvement on last season. Maybe Morata will be better on the field than costa but I am far from convinced. Still it's way too early to know so let's give it half a season.

Rodigier  will be faster and fitter than Terry but still may not start much this season.

'Other players are carrying injuries.

So I'm sure the Chelsea mangeent team are trying, but as of today they haven't succeeded. Here's hoping they do. I tend to think that getting the starting 11 sorted out is a good thing. Trading as a team, working on moves, bonding, all matter at any level of sport.

A counter to this is it's a long season and my guess is assuming he fully recovers, Hazard will be the better for the extended rest.
