Billy Gilmour

Featured Replies

While he was incredible last night i think he has a bit of work to do before he's a regular, in PL2 he's blown hot and cold a bit and last night was more of a peek at the potential end product compared to the current Billy on a week by week basis. I would consider a loan somewhere for 6 months in January if we could find somewhere suitable, because as Mount has aptly demonstrated, game time is everything these days.

The potential of the lad is insane however, play our cards right we for all intents and purposes have another chance at De Bruyne.

Or a young Fabregas.

Thanks for posting this, Davey.

I didn't see the match, just read the raving reviews on Gilmour. Although even I can be made to look talented and impressive in a compilation (yeah okay, perhaps not)  he was the midfield dynamo, wasn't he!

I'd definitly keep him at the club and develop under Lampard's guidance in training and games. It's a long season ahead, in several competitions so he'll get chances.

When it gets to the second half of the season where will the games come from?

Every CL or Europa game whichever one we end up in if either will be crucial and the PL will likely be an intense battle for top 4, the only real chances are the FA Cup if the draw is kind.

We see now how Foden is lagging below his peers with the restricted game time and I feel a 6 month loan to a team he can play for week in week out will suit both parties down to the ground right now.

January loan would be great. Frank could talk him into Derby but with every loan move the crucial bit is he gets to play his football and regularly.

He played one game against league two side. Albeit being excellent sides will start to pick and single him out. This happened with Cesc and Jorginho which always took them out the game. Under massive pressure you are tested. Win most of the balls and make most of the assist and you have done well. Tiny Billy would be faced by the likes of Fabinho, Matic, Fernanidho, Rodrigo. Not saying he can't succeed there but it would be a massive risk.

Loans to good Championship sides have been a good thing lately.

He needs to get loaned out to a team like Derby last season, who are willing to play young players and give them plenty of game time. Mount is a perfect example of this, and look how his season is going?

He did well the other night, it was definitely a positive night - Now he needs to start getting regular playing time which normally I would say that he would need a loan spell but if he continues to play well with the minutes Lampard gives him, who knows he may be playing next to Kante in the middle of the pitch quite a bit

I do like the idea of him going out on loan. Perhaps in a team that likes to keep possession of the ball with a Gilmour type player at the base of midfield? He dictates from deep, I hope we don't send him to a team that just sits back.

I'd prefer he spends the year here. He's young enough for it to be worthwhile and if jorginho is injured or needs a rest he can come in,

If jorginho was out for 3 months, he would be crucial. What are our other options? Mount maybe, that's it.

I liked what I saw to be honest, he turned it around in the 2nd half however he's not ready yet. The physicality was a clear problem and he was getting shoved off the ball too much.

It reminds me a bit of McEachran, when he was 18, superb vision and passing but couldn't get to grips with the physiciality of first team football. First half I thought he really struggled, but so did everyone, second half I saw a lot more positives, I hope we see more of him.

I know he’s still young so I don’t want to be too harsh but I thought he offered very little and made a lot of safe sideways passes. Size is a problem as well.

As I said, I don’t want to be too harsh and he clearly needs time to develop. You have to trust that Lamps and the team see his talent.

I agree with you here... He's young and there's plenty of room to improve but Gilmour didn't show much attacking intent. Compare him to Mount and there is a big gap in what they're giving to the team.

I actually think he is benefiting from the current climate and atmosphere around the club regarding the youth players. There are far better players that we have had that have not made the grade here. Having put in the apprenticeship that RLC has had to put in whilst being here, he must be looking at this situation thinking you're having a laugh.

He may well end up being quality for us but for me, I think he should go out on loan, man up and learn the craft of the role in senior football. Then we'd have a better idea if he can take the step up. Force the issue now and what could be a promising prospect could end up getting burned and dumped by the wayside.

Obviously we are judging him here from different standards. We know if it was Willian having a game like that he would get crucified but he's a senior player and has reached his potential.

Gilmour for his first ever big game for Chelsea, I think that was his 3rd pro game he did reasonably well in that 2nd half. I don't think it was the right game to play him to be honest, United were always going to be physical and compact. But then again learning curves are important, and getting your ass beat is sometimes a good way to learn.
