Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

I'd be livid if I was an arsenal fan and one of my players put in a half assed 'performance' against the team he goes to 2 days later.

arsenal fans seem to think £40m is daylight robbery and have no idea why us or liverpool were so interested. he can be a classy little player on his day, but i watch him nowhere as much as arsenal fans do, and if they claim he's wholly inconsistent then i'll take their word for it. he wouldn't have got in over moses anyway, and i do think we need someone better than moses rather than someone as a back up to him.

£6m a year and a free Anfield season ticket to watch the scousers from the bench. I bet he goes in at RWB or LWB as well as he is seen as a long term replacement for Milner, who has been made to play in these positions.

It's amazing what bang average is worth nowadays.

I Compare missing out on Ox with being knocked out of league cup:...if you win it, course it's great, but if knocked out, not ideal but not a disaster either...

only an issue cos of the mess we could be left in squad wise rather than missing out on him...has a terrible fitness record and rather inconsistent too..,think Conte would have improved him but he's opted for Liverpool for some reason and he's dreaming if he thinks he will get to play loads in midfield there

i'm hoping he does get to play loads in midfield at Liverpool because I'm convinced he'll not deliver - I'm glad we didn't end up with him to be honest

the questions for a lot of these guys when Chelsea approach them is " am I as good or better than what Chelsea have already/" and "will I get any games?" - credit to Ox for realising that he's probably not good enough to secure a starting place at Chelsea but he might be good enough for Liverpool

Lots of false narratives being spun already about this one saying AOC rejected £220k a week from us to join Liverpool.

By most accounts we didn't get as far as making a contract offer to the player and if we did there's no way we offered to make him our best paid player.

This is why no one likes the scousers.

what worries me is that he chose the scouse over CFC, could understand if it was united or ciity. Is it just me or are chelsea not as an attractive prospect as they should be

He doesn’t want to sit on our bench or play RWB.

stop overreacting

fine, but i would hardly say that i am over reacting

If you think Liverpool are a more attractive prospect than Chelsea, even for a second, then you are overreacting :laugh2:

This may be an unpopular view but can I say I respect the Ox for making this call.

He was never going to be anything more than homegrown cover here for us and he certainly wasn't going to be anything more than 4th or even 5th choice CM.

If he wants to start and wants to play CM and believes he is more of a chance at the dippers then good luck to him.

What it does highlight AGAIN is the risk of putting eggs in one basket and doing business this late. I've no doubt we'll be bringing in someone. Lets hope we strike it lucky ala Luiz and Alonso last deadline day.

which is what he could pretty much end up doing at liverpool

Never really understood this notion of AOC becoming a CM, he doesn't have enough natural footballing ability to play in that position. I don't see how we gets into the Liverpool team as a CM or even an AM. I do think that he could become a good RWB though, like Moses he's a good athlete with average technical skills, an overall skillset which suits the RWB role well enough.

I don't think we've really lost much here, although I guess having an Englishman who could have done an average job in a many positions would have been useful.

Ironically the weakest midfield out of all of the clubs asociated with him, is actually the Arsenal one. If he is unable to command a central midfield spot in the Arsenal midfield which is littered with underperforming mediocre players then why does he think he will achieve this at either Chelsea or Liverpool.

Instead of listening to the delusional mutterings of his agent and the pampering idiots around him, perhaps he should have thought about the money he has nicked out of the gooners for the level of performance he has given them over the years.

The only credit he seems to have garnered in his time there is that unlike Walcott, he didn't just waste his bench time but got on thr protein shakes and in the gym to bulk up a bit whilst he was warminf their bench.

I said it before, bullet missed.

We do need another wing back, either as cover, or preferably an upgrade, Ox is hardly the latter, I certainly think Moses is better and though I would have welcomed Ox, I'm not losing any sleep. We've had enough time to find cover for this position though and we've failed, Tamori and Dave can play their, but we all know that's not ideal.

Actually, if no Ox means more Tamori, then I'm really not bothered, an upgrade on Moses was on everyone's mind, not Chamberlain. Tamori might even have a higher ceiling than Ox, in that position.

This late in the transfer window. Its like reaching league cup final and losing to dippers. Its disastrous which ever way you look at it.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has signed 5-year deal worth £120k a week.

f**k me, that's 28 million in wages plus 40 transfer, and he is an arsenal fringe player, for me the wages are more of a problem than the transfer fee, him for 30 million on 90k a week is more than enough, beyond that honestly I'm glad we missed out, it's not my money I don't care how much we spend but if we are tighter on the purse strings these days you have to think there was better deals out there, I'd rather pay for drinkwater because he will take 70k and be chuffed.
