Baka and Zappa both were responsible for goal ....Torres was unchallenged there to win the header. Finishing definitely needs to be clinical for sure , so many clean chances wasted. Pedro changed the game and gave us lot of momentum and I think he should have started at the place of Zappacosta.

those 52 goals mean NOTHING, when the player simply turns up when HE wants to, puts in a transfer request every bloody season and in the end forces his way out.

Support the player while wearing the blue? Surely.

respext the man? This has to be the biggest joke because the man does not even know what respect is.

Hard to put a finger on what happened... like our confidence is shot in front of goal, like we're surprised to have gotten into a goalscoring position every time despite doing it plentifully week in week out in the league.

Atletico didn't really look that good. Lots of possession and smart passing but they never really threatened. That's the shame of it. If we had gone for it from the start, as we did once we went a goal down, we'd have won. We had the chances sure, but we could have created a lot more if we'd been a bit more determined. For me, our mentality wasn't quite right. We should have treated this as a must-win game, instead we're probably getting knocked out in the next round. That's not me being defeatist, that's just realism. Barcelona and PSG will go into any tie with us as favourites, and they'll be playing the 2nd leg at home. Let's hope we get Besiktas.

 

We were sitting pretty after 2 games. For my money a bit of complacency set in. Two goes at Roma and we couldn't beat them, plus Atletico at home, and we couldn't beat them. If we'd lost those first two games I dare say we'd have done better in the latter games, if our life in this competition depended on it, As it was, we knew more or less we were going through after we beat Atletico at their place, and we lost our intensity.

Not being defeatist Davey, just being realistic.  Is only being honest as barca have a better team than we do, and they cheat, psg also have a better team than we do, and they cheat and have a thug in their midfield who never gets sent off.

I would venture the Turks would be favourites too unless we take a handsome, aka 2-0 or 3 plus goal plus lead to their place as well. Plus I cannot see UEFA wanting 5 English teams in the last 8 so who is going to be easiest to knock out? Us now, plus spurs or Liverpool, whichever they draw Bayern against .

let's hope then that City gets Madrid, Utd Juve, Spu*s Bayern so those three can f**k off!! And we get Besiktas :) !!! and I hope bin dippers will be done by those russians!! if they lose at anfailed, they'll be going to the thursday nightclub !! with such a draw we might remain the only english club in the UCL QF !

Hmm true of them under moyes or lvg but I don't think this jose team will. Beat either of those then lose to Liverpool in the quarers I reckon lol.

I let the result settle & came to this conclusion. 

1. gave AM their only loss of the season - pretty remarkable since AM has played both RM & Barca
2. was able to KO AM from The Champion's League - payback for 2013/14 season
3. most teams still don't want to face CFC & yes even PSG especially since we have seen them drop 2 matches in a week

I will say forward & upwards - I will just be a Carefree CFC fan & enjoy the rest of the Competition 

Agree Rob,let others worry about facing us.Athletico's keeper is their best player and made some crucial saves.We will play a lot worse than that and win.Eden is on fire and Kante looks to be the new Claude.....ONWARDS AND UPWARDS !

Prefer hardly Barcelona ahead of PSG. Anyway, both teams are much better right now than Bayern, Juventus and Real but who know what their condition and shape will be in 4 months? So it's not a big deal + we are underdogs against them, the pressure is on french and spanish bar stewards and it's rather disappointment for them to face Chelsea as they finished 1st than for us. So... keep ya heed up. 

Now seriously. Morata's finishing with his feet is questionable. Only playing Stoke away he showed some class. Every single match out of this one, he disappointed us with poor  last touches. 

Bakayoko is a total flop so far. This guy doesn't play defense, doesn't play offense, but the lack of effort is just scandalous. You discussed the corner, but the way they earned this corner was my issue. They passed around right next to him and he was just observing, letting them shoot free. Glad he changed his haircut but I'm still not satisfied. Doesn't even deserve to be on the bench. We should use Luiz as option number 2 in center, instead of him. 

The rest of the guys - good performance. Zapacosta was a real threat throughout the entire game, don't see any particular reason to blame him especially he played on the wrong wing. Christensen was MoTM. The only thing he must learn is how to score goals. John Terry would've accomplished hattrick yesterday. 

Very frustrating night. 

That Atletico side, despite having some star names, really haven't impressed me over the two legs and I think we had the beating of them both times. 

We were the better side last night, and created more than enough chances to win. We have been guilty of not being clinical enough in front of goal in recent weeks, and last night it cost us big time. 

Morata, Willian & Christensen all had glorious chances, and I am probably forgetting others. Plus there were various counter attacks that we cocked up ourselves when we had them on the ropes and should have punished them. 

It's easy to sit and blame individuals, but collectively we shouldn't have allowed last night to get to the stage where we were desperate for a goal with 5 minutes to go. Sloppy defending for their goal made the task harder than it needed to be, and then we squandered chance after chance. That cannot all be blamed on Willian, who played 17 minutes of the game. 

It seems inevitable that we will get PSG now, and I struggle to put a positive spin on that really. Hardest draw going, and a boring one at that given how many times we have played them in recent years. 

I try and tell myself "to win it you have to beat the best, so let’s get them out the way early", but give me a soft draw with the second leg at home and I will bite your hard off every time. Let someone else deal with the likes of PSG whilst we get a side like Porto to work ourselves into the knock out rounds. 

It's not all doom and gloom, playing the best IS what the Champions League is all about, but I can't help feeling very frustrated, as we should have given our self the inside track in the next round, but instead we are starring down the barrel of the hardest possible draw available. 

After what happened yesterday, I have started to think of some improvisation.

whenever we have a tough game like CL, Rudiger or Drinkwater should replace Bakayoko.

Alvaro is not prolific enough to me. He is very wasteful and seems light-weighted. So I’ll suggest in January we get another striker or we try some of youth players. Some of them are very good. We need to sell one of Bat and Alvaro.

Was at the game yesterday, some observations:

Christensen is a wonderful defender. He played SO well.

Still not entirely convinced about Zappacosta. 

Bakayoko isn't very good. At all. 

Morata needs to improve. 

Hazard is a joy to behold. Without him, we are nothing.

Willian should have buried that chance arghhhhhhhhhhhh. And we could easily have put 3 goals past them in general, just no cutting edge in front of goal. 

 

I found, some between of you defeatist, in Champions League every team can beat everybody. If we fall on Barcelona and well we will go at Camp Nou for the qualification, in 2012 we hadn't a big team nonetheless we had won this CL. Because players had big balls and lot of character like our team current, and we are stronger than 2012, or 2014

We needed to win that game. Atletico isn't on song for some reason and this was our game. However this is how they won games. Be on ropes and score their only chance. This is what they do. We as Chelsea fans know this football.

I hope we face Besiktas or Sevilla if that is still a chance. Nothing wrong with facing Barca or PSG but it is such a gamble at this point. Those two can destroy you if you have an off day. Lets have some luck in this draw because we surely didn't have it for the group. Roma and Atletico are premium teams. Qarabag is a tough travel.

I want us to have some luck. Luck gives you confidence.

So we will probably get Barcelona.

If Liverpool win then our chance of getting Barcelona is highest because they cannot draw real madrid or Sevilla. 43% for them 28% for psg and besiktas? 

Still trying to work it out, I just want to avoid psg to be honest.

On the positives, thought we played well, created many clear cut chances against one of the best defensive unit in Europe, and didn't concede many chances in return. Zapacosta looked good on the left, he should serve as a good alternative to Alonso. Hazard had a great game without scoring, he's so keen to score, this maybe the season he steps up to be the top 5 players in the world. On the negative, we still couldn't put chances away to win the game, had 3-4 free headers either going wide or straight to the GK, and Willian had that awful miss unmarked near the penalty box. We are conceding silly goals just like the last few games, that was very basic corner defending we couldn't manage. I honestly don't think we will go far in the CL for the above reasons, need to get a lot better if we are serious about the CL or title challenges. We will get PSG or Barca next up, should be fun, for now it's great to get throug this game without injuries and look forward to beat up West Ham on Saturday

We should have put this to bed. We were the better team but couldn't finish. When we turned up the heat, we were a class ahead. Pity for the draw and 2nd place.

if you think the upcoming draw is honest think again, look at the recent WC draw - Russia Vs Saudi Arabia (not fixed or anything), the fact that there's a WC coming up in Russia & Qatar (bidding rigged by FIFA). FIFA , UEFA, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL (con - lol) they are proven to be dishonest and criminal in their activities, so lets not get too hung up on 2nd place (although why goal difference isn't used like in the league idk). UEFA will be looking to eliminate CFC either way 1st or 2nd.

I agree they fiddle with the draws whatever skeptical people say who can't bare to think any authority isn't straight as an arrow may think, having said that what would UEFA have against us? Doesn't make sense we are, I think, the 4th most followed club on earth it helps their competition to have us in it, if its us or Barca we know who they will favour, but thats again to please the masses, it's business, thats why last season the refs did everything to let the spuds catch up, more competitive league is a better show to sell, in a league worth billions every season, to believe they don't try and engineer things to go the path of the most entertainment is naive, but again no reason for UEFA to want us out.
