One key difference between us and Spurs, we have a winning mentality running through the club from top to bottom.  If Poch builds a similar team with us, absolutely no way are we going 4 years without winning anything.

That is rapidly eroding. Hiring a manager who values style over results like Sarri or one who hasn't ever won a league like Pochettino wouldn't help with that.

@Womble you mention Jogi Low, Sampaoli was another on our list pre-Conte. He is as good as any of the names mentioned.

Is it? We've pissed two titles in four seasons and it certainly isn't evaporating below the first team.

It's isn't simply about appointing managers that value style over results. I doubt any manager would truly have that mentality, you also forget that both Sarri and Poch have had small budgets to work with while their rivals are spending 100-200 million more than them. The fact they've been able to keep their teams highly competitive over a number of years while the teams around them spend huge amounts each year is a great achievement

There's this notion that we have to appoint a manager that win things and have a history of winning things, why? Why are going to go down that route yet again when we simply won't be able to give that manager the money to achieve those goals? Managers like Pep, Mourinho, Conte they all expect huge amounts of money to be poured into the squad because they want to win trophies from the get go. Financially that's not realistic or long term for us

Right now we need to focus on actually building a squad, we need to think long term and look to use the resources we have right now, our academy is the best in the world right now, we need to start using it. Forget trophies for the next few years and actually concentrate on bringing through our amazing youth players, build an identity and philosophy instead of going in circles like we have done in the last few years

I feel quite a few Chelsea fans have been spoilt in the last 10 years and just expect us to win trophies every year. For me, it's ridiculous to right off a manager because he hasn't won anything yet

Feel? We are in a thread discussing what manager we want next despite the current one not even being gone yet. I think that threshold was crossed a while ago...

Furthermore to add to what you have said, we keep hearing people dismiss the likes of Poch and Sarri because they haven't won anything yet, but who are the most decorated managers available this summer? Ancelotti, Wenger and potentially Rafa, yet i doubt that many Chelsea fans would want Carlo (and i would wager he's next to no one's first choice), i can't imagine anyone would want the Wenger and the return of Rafa would cause a full scale riot.

It can't work both ways.

Meeting tomorrow between De Laurentiis and Sarri. Interesting. If he renews, I wonder where we'll turn our attentions.

05/15/18 19:40| Calciomercato | Author: Editorial Staff

A dream championship chased and then faded in recent days, now the eye turned to the future. The Naples and Maurizio Sarri still together? This is the question to which the blue people want to receive an answer. In discussion, the future of the coach who in these three years has obtained two seconds and a third place, improving the record number of points in the history of Naples from year to year. And the long-awaited meeting of truth between Maurizio Sarri and Aurelio De Laurentiis will be tomorrow. In the contract of the coach there is a clause of 8 million, which does not expire at the end of the month but on 22 May. This therefore represents a formally important date, which puts further pressure on those interested in paying this amount to tear Maurizio Sarri to the Azzurri. But first the meeting between the coach and the president, to evaluate together the possibility of continuing a relationship that has lasted three years.

Chapter market. A name that is now on the list of goals of Naples for some time is that of Sime Vrsaljko . The Blues have also tried in January, to give a new alternative to Sarri after the injury of Ghoulam. In the winter market Atletico Madrid said no, but Napoli insists and will try again in the summer.

After Mourinho, I don’t really want to see any former managers returning but Ancelotti isn’t a bad shout. I still can’t believe we sacked him despite finishing 2nd.

I know we had a really bad slump in winter, but we still finished 2nd!!!

Few have spent more time defending Conte than me. I'd prefer he stayed. But the odds are very short that he'll be going.

Couple of points on this:

I think it is a myth that a Pochettino and Sarri should be appointed because they have overachieved with a smaller budget. Pochettino and Sarri have not been working with nothing: At Spurs Vertonghen, Rose, Dembele, Eriksen and Kane would walk into our first eleven. All were there when Pochettino arrived. Similarly at Napoli,  Hamsik, Higuain, Jorginho, Albiol, Mertens, Ghoulam, Insigne and Callejon were all there. Most would walk into our eleven.

Secondly a small budget doesn't mean you can't win. if we are looking for a manager who has overachieved with a much smaller budget we should only be looking at Simeone, who actually won La Liga.

I don't want a winning manager because I'm spoiled and insist on trophies. I want a winning manager because that flows through our club culture. Culture is king and I don't want a club where 'putting the pressure on' is enough to make a DVD.

Lots of people wanting a coach that will try to implement what they perceive to be a more attractive style if football.

We need to be careful what we wish for.

I didn't hear many complaining that we were negative when grinding out 1v0 wins to win the title, or when we were ultra defensive when winning the champions league.

For me.... A manager who can maintain  or save the winning mentality, fight and steel we have shown over the last decade is a must.

"Attractive" football whilst ideal, comes a distant second.

But as it's been said before, that will be very hard now we no longer have the spine of the squad that had than winning mentality.

Both Liverpool & Spurs have proved that you can compete by playing more expansive football and I would rather we go for that than grind out games like Mourinho is doing (and pissing off the United supporters on the whole).

People fear City could well dominate now for a good few seasons and maybe they will but I do believe that even as good as they have been this season under Pep, next season they will encounter all the same issues that teams have before. Injuries, complacency, other sides having learnt how to play them etc. Having won PL comfortably this season, they may well prioritise CL next season and I wouldn't be at all surprised that they fail to win back to back PL's - that's as long as us and the others get our act together.

Then ironically, United finished in second  and pool and spurs were dangerously close to being equal with us if we didn't throw away the challenge at the end. People say they will be happy with attacking football but I give it 3 results similar to when Liverpool where drawing after being 3 up before people start complaining again.

They'll always be complaining. Whether we lose 1-0, draw 0-0 or draw 3-3 after being 3-0 up. There'll even be complaining when we win!

But no-one would be complaining if we made a CL final.

And I don't know any Liverpool or Spurs fans who would swap the style of football they have played this season to watch what Utd have been dishing up just to finish a place or two higher.

“Mauricio Pochettino will be moving to the ‘blue side of London’, claims @DiegoMSport

Apparently this guy is rated highly by Journalists and has called a few things early like Wenger leaving and Sanchez to United.

I still can’t see Poch leaving Spurs and coming to us.
