Charity Shield: Chelsea vs Manchester City Sunday 5th August 3pm UK

This is kind of a weird game. Friendly but a game you want to win. Never knew how to feel with these big friendlies.

Excited to see Hudson-Odoi and Barkley.

This’ll be the first time I’ve watched us since Sarri came in, really excited to see what we’re like! Morata to get a hat trick now he’s got rid of the ‘cursed’ number 9 jersey, he’ll be our new Didier!

I’m buzzing to see CHO in action.

I’m struggling to decide who’s match warm shirt is worse, ours or city’s... I think theirs probably just pips it.

I would have preferred Bulka in the sticks, not confident of Caballero at all. I’d also have played Emerson over Alonso.

Alonso at left back. :face_palm:

Against that attack, i think he will really struggle. I'm not sure why he is ahead of Emerson in this formation really, especially if we are going to play a higher line. He's going to be ripped apart because of his pace. It's not his fault, he can't exactly do much about his pace, but surely Sarri can see it's going to be a problem.

Agreed, I like Alonso and I hope he improves in that position, but his pace is a huge concern. The thought of him playing their throughout the season...doesn’t fill me with much confidence.

I’m clearly in the minority in that I don’t see any reason for Emerson to be starting ahead of Alonso.

I think Alonso is better with the ball at his feet, has a good range of passing, gets forward we’ll, offers a goal threat. Is solid of set pieces at both ends of the pitch as well.

Pace, when playing a high line, you need somebody that will keep up, Alonso will be targeted throughout because of that weakness.

He’s just so slow, this could his last season at the top level IMO, unless he’s purely an impact sub off the bench against tiring sides.

In Conte's first season, he was incredibly effective as a sub, he had the most assists at the club that season. I think that is the only way we can get the best out of him now.
