The slack passing straight to the other team, his inability to make straightforward saves and misjudging the flight of a cross has nothing to do with the players in front of him changing. For what it's worth, that cross may have been unsaveable but he has not done him self any favours by not jumping and pulling his arms away from it. If he jumps and still can't get anything on it then fair enough but i think there should have at least been an attempt by him. We have been spoilt by 2 world class commanding keepers (3 if you want to go back to Cudicini) and unfortunately Kepa is not at that level at the moment. He needs to be more assertive in and around the 6 yard box. If you are under the kosh it takes a lot of pressure off if a keeper authoritatively comes and claims a ball into the box and drops onto it for a few seconds.
November 29, 20196 yr I wouldn't drop him, even just for some short term gain. The Backup GK is like 40 years old, and the few times he played he looked pretty ordinary too, as much as he's a competent number 2. Kepa is the number one, he got to stick it out with the backing of the manager/coaches/players.

November 30, 20196 yr If it wasn't for him, the scoreline would have been embarrassing today. Hopefully he takes confidence from the game, even if he was on the lossing side.

November 30, 20196 yr As others have said I think he is a reasonable keeper rather than a good one. Today he made a couple of vital saves from corners and did well to get a VAR review of what would have been their second as no-one else was claiming handball.
November 30, 20196 yr Thought he did well today. The goal was just a well taken shot, not much he could have done there.
December 1, 20196 yr Only player with any credit from today. Good showing. Did everything he needed to do well.
December 1, 20196 yr I was disappointed he didn't get a finger to the goal not saying he would have kept it out. Overall thought he had a good game.

That’s quite picky on your part. Reece got spun around and Zouma didn’t even attempt to block it (and was also right in the sight line), but you want Kepa to get a finger to it while still resulting in a goal? Sheesh.

I just call it as I see it and thought he didn't get close with two defenders inside him would have expected him to cover that side.

I could see your point and agree some what, because nobody tackled the attacker, he actually had a full view of the shot and could have timed and dive better. It's similar to the crossed goals he conceded, he's not a big GK and he doesn't get great extension of his arms to pull the shot out from the corners. I think deep inside he has reasons to be disappointed not to lay a hand on it. Having said that, De Gea conceded a similar goal this morning, and all the could do was watch and pray, sometime the shot was just too hot.

December 2, 20196 yr I have criticized him quite a bit recently but credit where its due he did incredibly well, we didnt deserve anything from the game but credit to him for keeping us in the game.
December 4, 20196 yr Has a very unfortunate habit of standing completely still when the ball goes in his net. Having a wretched season in my opinion.
December 4, 20196 yr A very weird season I think, makes some blinding saves then makes some howlers. He's been unfortunate with arguably Chelsea's worst defence in a long time, we are a bit erratic at the moment at the back. But he's also contributing to that, again for that first goal, he should be coming out for that.
December 5, 20196 yr 2 good games on the spin. Kept the scoreline from being embarrassing against West Ham, and pulled off a good save at the death last night which secured the win. Getting back to some good form - keep it up Kepa!

Agree with this. Also towards the end of the game he was coming and taking deep crosses and relieving a bit of the pressure on us. Something i have been crying out for him to do for ages!

He made a great save at the end that arguably wouldn't have been needed if he had come for the cross in the first half. He is the shortest first choice keeper we have had in 15 years and for me we've taken for granted the aerial presence that Cech and Tibo gave us as 6'5 plus keepers. Granted they had John Terry in front of them too. I'm not saying he needs to be shipped out but it wouldnt hurt us to have a taller keeper to compete with him and play in the matches where aerial presence is required. Kepa is very lucky Stoke got relegated before he moved. Can't imagine how he would have coped with Pulisball on a windy Monday night.

I can't believe you're blaming him for their goal last night - no keeper comes out for that cross. It had absolutely nothing to do with his height (it wasn't even a high cross). Sometimes you've just got to applaud the superb delivery. The blame for their goal was 1. allowing the cross to be delivered in the first place 2. Christensen getting bullied by their attacker and getting nowhere near the header 3. Reece James not picking up the runner.
