We've got a new Kepa

Yours is an opinion, i provided evidence to support my claims lol

What evidence exactly?

After a solid first season under Sarri (not including the League Cup final), this season he is super poor and he can't even blame the shaky defense for every goal. He needs to improve drastically. The stories linking us with several new keepers aren't going away so he should step up. I think it would be a mistake to sell him after one poor season, saying this he needs competition. We should buy a new perspective keeper that will keep him on his toes, and that will provide quality competition. Why would he worry when we have a 38 year old Caballero as a possible substitute?

The numerical data was fact x

What was this fact based on? Show me the data source.

Let me guess...

Data source: his opinion.

If there's a data source that objectively states when players were at their peak then I'd be very interested to see it.

Cech wasn't the same after the head injury, still a fantastic keeper but better beforehand.

Just better as he aged, try some wine to make it easier.

Willy did replace him when Lampard dropped him, isn't that a bigger blow for a young talent? Being benched for a 38 year old...That should make him wake up a bit.

I think we should a bit of patience with Kepa. I felt the same with Courtios before he came out and pretty much said he wants to leave.

There isn't a keeper out there that's a significant upgrade to Kepa in my opinion that would be available or even want to join. Admittedly this may change in the summer but it's unlikely.

I honestly don't think it would be hard to find an upgrade on Kepa, in fact it would be harder to find a keeper who wasn't an upgrade.

In the PL, I see teams mid-table, even down in the relegation zone who have better performing keepers than Kepa. Not saying they are World Class, but still better than what we currently have.

I think that's a bit of hyperbole coming from you, I can't even think of any keeper outside of the top 8 that are anything other than average at best. Unless I'm missing someone?

Kepa is in a bad run of form but he's still a good keeper. Not a great one by any means but still good nonetheless. If we can get a great keeper in the summer then I'm all for it, otherwise I would stick with what we have.

I think the point is many of us, including me, don't even see kepa as average.

Blimey my head's gone in a spin reading all this, average age this, hitting a peak then, give him more time etc etc, the bloke is simply not good enough and never will be, from build and presence, to coming for crosses, to shot stopping be fails in every department. Don't care we got mugged for 71m he needs to go.

Not hyperbole at all. Just saying it as I see it.

Think far too much is made these days of a keeper being good with his feet. Yeah, great if he is as long as first and foremost he's a good goalkeeper. No good him having the ability on the ball and distribution of Ruud Gullit, if he struggles to keep the ball out of the net.

I won't bother including main rivals, like Liverpool, city, Utd Spurs and Everton, but keepers who I have watched this season who I would hand on heart start ahead of Kepa include:

Henderson - Sheff Utd

Schmeichel - Leicester

Leno - Arsenal

Ryan - Brighton

Heaton - Villa

Pope - Burnley

McCarthy - Southampton

Dubravka - Newcastle

Not saying any of these are exceptional, world class keepers and don't ever make mistakes, but this season ALL have performed better than Kepa, both in saves made and being more commanding in coming for crosses.

I might disagree with a couple on that list but broadly it demonstrates the point well. This idea that Kepa is good with his feet therefore he is a good keeper is daft. Same argument is made for central defenders. First and foremost you are there to stop the ball getting into the net. If you can pass as well great. But that alone does not mean squat.

Bit like it being okay for deepest-lying midfielder to not be able to run and cover counters because they point and organise.

Sooner we leave the Sarriball capabilities behind and focus on the actual ones the better.

Its not atall, if you don't have a keeper good playing out you get murdered by a press, either by giving it away or hoofing it straight back to them.

At a team like ours a keeper is going to have to play out under pressure 10 times (at the very least) for every one time he has to do a bit of "proper keeping". Ofcourse they still have to be good at that but this notion that it doesn't matter if they treat the ball like a hot potato aslong as they keep it out whatever means how is so outdated.

A ball playing goalkeeper is crucial to compete at the very top, in the modern day you will only get so far without one, even if they're a 10/10 shot stopper.

Sure, ALL players need to be comfortable on the ball and I agree, you don't want a keeper punting the ball high up the pitch (we've had plenty of that over the seasons), but I would still prefer a keeper who is adequate with his feet and a good actual goalkeeper than one who is good enough to play outfield but lets goals in for fun.

I wouldn't even say Kepa is that great with his feet anyway and has had some dodgy moments this season with miss placed passes. And if you need a keeper good at playing the ball out from the back, what about centre backs? We'll need an upgrade there too as Rudiger often punts the ball into no mans land.
