We've got a new Kepa

Featured Replies

Champions League is the perfect chance for him to make some saves and show his abilities. Willy has done a goob job but we still concede easy goals just look at the Spurs goal and the Man Utd game.

That doesn’t make any sense. What could have Willy done about these goals? If anything he’s making the defence stronger as he’s far a lot more confident with set pieces than Kepa ever will be.

Willy isn't that sharp anymore, his reflexes are not so good. A few years back he would have saved that deflection goal for example. Kepa can work and do better, Willy can't react as fast anymore.

If it was Kepa at that goal people would have said he should have done better it's his near post bla bla you know how it goes...

Caballero is far from the best keeper in the world and coming to the end of a decent but not great career. However he actually comes for high balls, commands his defence and doesn't have wrists like the hinges on my broken toilet door.

I can't for even a second understand why anyone who has watched Kepa all season and Caballero for the last few games would want to bring Kepa back in.

I just hope we find a buyer in the summer and we can get back maybe half what we paid for him).

He has great potential but he needs some real mentoring. I feel like his mind is out of place sometimes. I couldn't watch the game only saw the highlights and yes I also think Kepa would reach that last ball but there were 1 or 2 saves from Willy in the first half that got me thinking if Kepa would approach the ball that good.

For me he does deserve another chance for sure. Willy is way past his peak, Kepa can still improve.

We have a champions league knock out tie coming up and a top four finish to fight for. Giving players a chance who are woefully out of form and have clear weaknesses in their game is not a priority. For now he has to stay on the bench.

Willy made a couple of saves against Spurs that I didn’t think Kepa would have made. The stop from Moura I thought would have gone in with Kepa.

Kepa hasn't been very good this season, but he's been made a massive scapegoat. He hasn't played for a while and our defence is still sh*t and we're still conceding lots of goals. He should be brought back in next game.

Reckon he is done here now.

Why? Cos he's been dropped for a few games? Players get dropped all the time if they're not performing well (well they should anyway, depends on the manager). I think the majority of the blame lies with our defending as a whole team, not just with the goalkeeper.

I think he is probably but not definitely done at Chelsea. What might keep him is

1. We accept we need to buy a fair number of players this summer so we might not prioritise a keeper (a mistake in my view)

2. How realistic the board's expections are for next season.

If pushing for the title is an expectation (which would be ridiculous) then he has to go. If it is to get fourth they might be inclined to keep him. Personally I don't think he is a top four team keeper. He is no better than Willy and over the past seasons can anyone ever imagine being content with Willy as our first choice keeper?

We f**ked up on this one, to an extent because Courtois forced us to act quickly although in fairness he was a highly regarded prospect at the time. Just turns out we bought a keeper who maybe looked better due to the defence in front of him. Under pressure he is a car crash of a keeper. There are too many weaknesses in his game for me to have any confidence he will ever develop into a quality keeper.

As you say, made a scapegoat. I believe there is every chance he feels the exact same way and, given what we have learned of Kepa's personality since he came here (e.g. league cup final) I doubt he has not taken that rather personally and just may not want to play for Frank again.

What was wrong with Bulka?  When I saw him play in preseason matches, he looked fantastic, and had great instincts, kind of like Cech.  Stupid to have sold him imo.

Not sold, he would not sign a new contract and left for free.

Had Frank been here that summer he may have got a chance. Chelsea responded to losing Tibo by puffing our chests out and spending big on a player Real Madrid passed on

I prefer Cab tbh, at least he can actually catch a ball in the air. Kepa is a complete liability at the moment, I know Cab is bang average but he can at least do the basics right.
Agreed. Caballero is nothing special and will make bad mistakes similar to Kepa but he is better than Kepa at the basics. Caballero makes mistakes that are largely due to decision making. Kepa makes them because of fundamental technical weaknesses.

Real Madrid did not pass on him, there was no chance a Basque player was going to leave Athletic Bilbao for the hated Real Madrid. Athletic Bilbao  and Real have a proper old school rivalry, the  the El Viejo Clásico which goes back to 1903.
