Yes, we can do with improvements in other positions but that is not as crucial as a striker, I feel we get a half decent striker, better than Morata anyway and we’d be well equipped for a top 4 finish.

Its painful that we only have Giroud as a viable option, he’s painfully average. Don’t get me started on Morata...

A decent striker, with Giroud as second choice, and I think 4th is a real possibility.

With Zola confirming our interest in Wilson a few weeks ago at least we are looking for one.

Maxi Gomez would be a good choice. 50m release clause

Can you tell us more about this guy?  I’ve seen you mention him before, I’ve never even heard of him.  What type of striker is he?

Pretty much plays like a poor version of Suarez (which is why Suarez  even said he would be a good replacement!). 18 or 17 goals and 5 assists in 36 appearances, involved in a 0.61 goal times per 90 minutes. Considering he shoots 2.3 times per game, with 1.1 on target for  the previous seaso. He is very decent, 50m might seems steep but he is 21, has the physique of Suarez and has a lot of room to grow. The market for strikers isn't great at the moment and people like Icardi are a tad unrealistic.  

Overall has very good hold up play too,

not the most technical player. However that's probably not too necessary in this system.  Barcelona and Atletico are targeting him for a reason

Simon Phillips just posted a quote from Sarri on Twitter, where Sarri states he doesn’t think he needs another striker in January but rather he needs another winger.  Maybe we won’t be signing a striker until summer then?

I'm not quite as nuanced in football press conferences, but in the USA, the LAST place you are going to learn something is from what a coach says publicly.

I dont believe Sarri for a second. 

He's defending his players publicly, rather than running down his current players for not being good enough like Mourinho and Conte. 

The whole free world knows that Chelsea needs a striker. He mentions wings, because that's safe, thatd where all the injuries are. He can talk about that position without talking down anyone's ability. 

He knows we need a striker. We all know.  

But it doesn't do anyone any good, not in team morale, not in resale value, to say "what I have isn't good enough."

I would take werner in a heart beat. I don't think he would be available to us for that price. German teams tend to give each other discount to try and keep the talent in their own league.

The reports out there say he is available to Liverpool for the 36m, so maybe he would be available to us for something similar.

German players do seem to do pretty well here.  Rüdiger, Ballack both good, Schürrle was decent for a stretch.  I would welcome Werner.

How much did we get for Solanke; £5m? He has made a total of 5 starts, 21 appearances, played  just 583 mins and scored 1 goal. 

There is some logic to give Tammy some game time till the end of the season, since our current forwards are hopeless. Even if he doesn’t score, playing for a top 6 club guarantees more money when he is sold.

Solanke is replacing Defoe who has gone to rangers. I think the Wilson talk has died now, I don't think we would value him any near as much as Bournemouth would, especially mid season, so it was probably a none starter.
