Christian Pulisic - Official

Featured Replies

I just don't think Frank rates him, which is a shame.  Pulisic came up through one of the best developmental clubs in the world in Dortmund, but the fact that Frank is playing Mount out of position and still using Willian and Pedro (even though he has infused youth all over the rest of the pitch), is a huge tell for me.

It makes me frustrated because this is only going to retard Pulisic's game for the USMNT.  I think he needs to be loaned back to the Bundesliga in January.  We won't get what we paid for him if he isn't getting any playing time.

This is from today, you can see Pulisic in two bigger instances;
2:51 Kante the legend on the ball, Pulisic tries to come from behind and steal it and he just falls down.
3:00 Pulisic gets the ball, loses the ball after some easy pressure by Michy and Kante.

This is why Lampard is consistant, how he sees the players doing in training he will try to give them minutes and so far Pulisic is still adapting.

PS. Ballack presence.

Both of those plays you mentioned involved the best defensive midfielder in the world.

That's some rubbish reasons why Pulisic isn't getting any playing time.  If that is what Frank is seeing and causing him to keep him out of even the bench, then I honestly don't trust Frank to manage this team any longer than a custodial situation.

That's a ludicrous notion. Imagine saying the coach should be dumped because he isn't giving your preferred player a run.

He wasn't on the bench because there are better players than him. Problem is the American bloggers overhyped him so much that we expected better than he is. He was sitting on the bench largely at Dortmund last year and had little impact when he played and also gave the ball away lots, even in Germany. He has a steep learning curve ahead of him to get a run.

I understand where it's coming from but you passing judgement on Frank's abilities based on a few seconds of a short video is just uncalled for. He just needs to manage Pulisic properly and as long as the chances are given where they're merited, I don't see a problem with it.

I’m glad that Lampard doesn’t feel obligated to fast track this kid into the first 11 just because of the transfer fee and all the fuss the yanks are making. He’ll get his chance when he’s ready. With Frank and Jody he couldn’t be in better hands.

It really doesn't matter if it's Kante, or does it? That being Kante shows Pulisic during training puts himself into bad positions, where everyone else can see that he's too lightweight and not capable of getting out of trouble...Lampard said that Pulisic is going through adaptation or whatever words he used to describe it, and Pulisic clearly isn't doing himself a favour by looking like a kid while hitting walls of Kante during practice...

Pulisic isn't getting the amout of time and space with the ball and that's why he's struggling, in those few seconds from training he wanted the ball too much and made some misjudgements.

I thought he would be much better, a lot better and I was wrong, he needs more time to get used to playing here, for that I can only thank Lampard that didn't want to make Pulisic look like a loose cannon, he's protecting him and giving him time to adapt and learn. Frankie knows what he's doing, you really should trust him.

What a load of old tosh. Pulisic is full of talent that's for sure but he needs to show that he is able to play in a team and do what the manager asks. That takes time. If you want an example of tallebt without application or discipline then look no further than Ravel Morrison. Is that what you want for him? Or would you prefer that he shows some fortitude and humility to earn a place in the team? Hazard had to adapt under several managers, you think that Pulisic is so good he doesn't have to do that too?
Think he'll play today.
I'd like to see it but I can't see how because all it would do is validate his moaning and undermine Lampard's authority.

All this talk of moving away in January and getting the hump because he's not picked is actually making it *harder* to pick him.

I swear we're the only club in the world that systematically has players unwilling to fight for their place.

Everytime a player is took out of the team for any more than two games they pipe up about it.

This talk of him leaving and being unhappy is pure US media garbage.  They have an agenda to push and panick when they their best player not starting for reasons they can't comprehend.

Pulisic is clearly good enough to play at this level, he's been productive when he plays. 4 assists already right? There are only so many minutes to dole out. He's competing against a former player of the year and 2 of the most talented young players in the country. He knows it's not going to be easy and he's working hard bc that's who he is.

Don't buy this story until you hear it from him.

He's already shown a few times he has more than a bit of dribbling ability.

Willian is playing on a way that Lampard won't drop him any time soon so it looks like Pulisic is battling Pedro for minutes.

Willian's playing well... but not well enough that he should be an automatic entry, he's a starting rotation guy IMO.

In someways, his situation is quite similar to Batsyhui. While the The goals and assists matter, it’s about his overall contribution to the team over 90 mins that’s important. Look at Mount and Willian the way the way they press.

I’m guessing though..Frank knows the real reason.

Very nice assist today. Great movement between the lines and good vision, he and Michy clearly have a good understanding.

For those worried he isn't getting more minutes. Take a look at the play the minute before, pass into feet, back to goal and the defender outmuscles him and takes the ball. I think that's the piece he has to figure out to play a bigger role.

There are obviously things Lampard's seeing in his displays that are to his liking a lot. He seems to be in a strong position just as Jorginho is at the moment. To you and I, it might be different, but pleasing the manager is what counts and both of these guys are doing just that, hence their regular inclusion.

Personally, I'd like to see Hudson Odoi and Pulisic get a lot of minutes and have both Willian and Pedro as second choice - neither are the future at this point in their careers - but, he's playing too well in Lampard's eyes to be dropped it seems.

The right way to go for this season is Odoi and Pulisic competing for one wing and Pedro and Willian competing for the other.

Its great to see youth playing but there's a risk of it also going too far the other way. Willian skillset and more conservative approach actually compliments the young eager players well. A front four consistening of an 18 year old, 20 year old, 21 year old and 22 year old is (collectively) too young.

You can't win the big titles with just kids, no doubt someone will counter me and say Ajax, Monaco and the CO92 but all three had experienced players around them (Blind, Tadic, Tagliafico, Falcao, Mourinho, Bruce, Pallister etc) and if our lads are to develop and win things they will need the same.

The thing is though, this isn't a side looking to win titles. For me, this season is about development more than anything (and hopefully a top 6 finish). Pulisic might be young but he has a decent amount of experience, but I realise there is a lot of value in the experienced heads being around the younger ones. For one thing, you know that the older players will know how to slow the play down a little and take the sting out of the opposition, whereas something we've seen in this young side (not so much today) is that as exciting as it is to watch, there's a lack of wanting to slow the pace down when needed.
