Gonzalo Higuain

The only consolation is he's just a loan.
We took a chance (couldn't be worse than Morata) and he's not done it, luckily we do have Giroud who not only puts in a shift but chips in with a few too.
I'm sure the club will look to sort out the striker situation in the summer (fingers crossed on the ban front) if not Tammy and Giroud will start for us next season.

I wouldn't count on it. Giroud is out of contract, and I don't think he's in a position where he'd re-sign right now.

Tammy and Michy to play centrally, CHO and Pulisic on the wing since I think we'll lose Hazard.

It's going to be tough, like really tough like it hasn't been in a long while, but that's fine.

I agree.

I see that as refreshing really, happy with it being tough for a while as the new team players learn, team has been stale for a long time now

The club has been a graveyard for strikers over the past few years with Drogba the only one of note in the last 20 years....no matter who arrives here if they aren't going to get the service, then they are not going to score and succeed.  Higuain was bad choice all round especially as he was and still is overweight and far to sluggish for this league....we need bright young strikers next season...bringing back Tammy would be a good start.

Meanwhile the man who replaced Higuain at Milan, Piatiek scored his 8th goal in 11 league matches yesterday. That was his 21st of the season including the goals he scored for Genoa.

He cost Milan €35m in January, the same fee we would have to pay to turn Higuain’s loan move into a permanent one.

I thought we couldn't keep him because of the ban, oh god no, thats depressing news if we can keep him. Tammy will never get a chance at this rate.

If Sarri stays and no ban then the possibility exists that we will keep him; if he goes Higuain won't be signing unless the Board have a complete brain fart...a Catch 22 for all the youngsters.

The agreement to turn his loan permanent is already in place so even if the transfer ban is upheld we can still sign him because it’s just triggering a clause in the existing contract.

We can’t do it with Kovacic because we have no  pre-agreed option to make his loan a permanent deal.

If Higuain remains a ghost for the rest of the season and Sarri keeps him for next season, this will probably be my breaking point with the manager.

He’s been quite shortsighted with a lot of his team selections this season. Continually picking Willian and Kovacic despite their lack of goals being one of the main ones.

But, retaining Higuain despite his continued struggles for goals and adapting to the league would probably be Sarri’s worst decision.

Wow only 35m, that's great business. I had heard of Piatiek but never seen him play but had seen his banging in the goals.

It's pretty clear that Higuain isn't going to offer any more than he already has in the last 3 months. It's enough time to bed in, especially at his age and with all his experience, it's already April and he's only scored against teams in the bottom three, yes that's right, he's not scored against a premier league club outside the relegation zone. I could see it coming before he came here, he was in the middle of a 6-7 game baron spell, the writing was on the wall.

It's a bit sad that we can debate which decision was more costly, but if we lose Hudson-Odoi, I'm still going to say his insistence on playing Pedro/Willian over Hudson-Odoi no matter the circumstance will be the most costly to the club.

I don't see him being past this season. I know Sarri trusts him but he is 31 and Prem is all about pace. Look at what type of players score goals: aguero Hazard, mane, firmino.. Agile, pacy players.

If we can't bring anyone in we have to rely on what we have: Giroud, Michy, Tammy, Hudson-Odoi, Pulisic, Piazon. I think we could use one of our wingers as a striker.

Piazon the legend, his time has come :Chelseaoldbadge:

CHO wont be going this summer so if he leaves it will be either because sarri doesn't treat him like a first team player this autumn or because he wants to go to a bigger club. What's happened this season shouldn't have a bearing on it.

Which is feasible.

I’d say we’re more of a retirement home for strikers.

Samuel Eto’o, Giroud, Falcao, Shevchenko, Higuain.

No doubt a seriously impressive list of big name strikers, typical they didn’t work out here apart from Eto’o.

I wonder who’s next, Lewandowski, Huntelaar, Van Persie, perhaps we can get Jimmy Greaves out of retirement?

Wouldn't be shocked at all to see Lewandowski or Cavani here at some point.

It annoyed me that we didn’t go for Piatiek. Seemed an obvious choice with little risk.

For Sarri this probably wasn't even a question. Higuain scored 1700 goals for him in a season.

It made sense at the time as Morata was absolutely woeful. Easily worse than Higuain.

Sarri went for experience over gamble and typically it hasn’t paid off. Shame.

If you were a manager can you really be blamed for wanting a striker who has scored what was it, 37 goals?

I don’t blame Sarri and yeah he’s been a disappointment but I wouldn’t be surprised if he did better at elsewhere, Liverpool, Spurs, even United. We rely on inverted wingers if that makes sense? And that makes the striker’s job difficult.

Giroud is probably the most suited striker we could ask for, he thrives on providing rather than scoring. Another striker who could really thrive in this system is probably Firmino.
