Gonzalo Higuain

Little risk signing a young, unproven striker from a notoriously slow and weak league? Okay then.

I really don’t see how Piatek could be considered as less of a risk than Higuain at the time.

Piatek was only scoring regularly for a season at top level. Higuain 10+ years.

AT least he comes back and links up play without falling over every time he's touched.  BUt I do see his signing as a make-shift effort to give Sarri a striker he wanted and was familiar with

Even signing Piatek at the end of this season would still be a massive risk, moreso than Higuain was in Jan imo. Higuain did it in different elite leagues. Piatek has had one good season in the Italian league.

Thought he played well and could have got one. Fabianski is an excellent keeper.

I thought the complete opposite. He was easily our worst player today. His reactions were slow, he was killing our attacks, he played 3 very poor passes in attacking areas.

He looks washed up. Giroud did more than him when he came on.

Totally agree, I thought I was maybe doing him a disservice from watching him on tele and maybe his movement and workrate would be different if you could watch him over a full 90. Having paid particularly close attention to him tonight, he’s rotten. Even my colleague who isn’t a Chelsea supporter commented that he’s lazy and doesn’t look interested.

He’s such a poor player, I honestly can’t see what he brings that someone like Abraham couldn’t. It was night and day when Giroud came on.

I bet if you were to ask the players who they preferred to play with, they would say Giroud. Higuain just doesn't have the link up play that Giroud has, and if you haven't got that, then you need to be doing things yourself, like scoring goals, he can't do that either though.

He was pants.

He looks a spent force, even the chance where he could have scored there's an argument that he should have headed it back across goal rather than bringing it down on his chest which gave the defender time to get across and block the shot.

He was giving the ball away cheaply with some extremely wayward passes and on quite a few occasions played the ball back to the defence from quite advanced positions.

Rubbish, no way does he improve enough between now and the end of the season to warrant the expense of retaining him for next season even if the transfer ban is upheld. Would much rather take our chances with Abraham.

Some of those passes he gave away last night he played blind trying to disguise the pass, like showboating, when it works it looks good, but when it does'nt it looks amatuerish.

He's getting chances and the service has increased dramatically since the team changes, RLC and CHO getting the ball into the box with runs and crosses and lovely little balls, Eden 15 passes into the box in 90 mins, 1 every 6 mins. Gonzalo should be feasting off the service.

Sarri mustn't let his heart rule his head. But saying that we don't have many options with Giroud saved for Thursdays, the only other option is false 9 again. But for next season (if Sarri remains) he must fall out of love with Gonzalo.

He had a couple of decent chances, but one was from an angle which he hit the post. The other was where he chested it down and hit it, which went wide from a deflection.

I wouldn't write him off considering other top strikers have taken a season or two to adapt to the league, and he's spoken about his struggles. He is 31 so not past it.

I don't think he'll be staying next season though if we have this summer to sign players. The problem is, who is out there?

Top level strikers are hard to come by, especially for Chelsea lol. We seem to flip a coin with strikers we buy to see how good they are.

Costa and Drogba are literally the two best strikers we've had since Roman too over. I always think back to 2011 and when we had the chance to sign Aguero.

Nothing new, he's still sh1t. I thought we suffered today with no Giroud to aim crosses at, and having him knock the ball around to the other attackers. Once Giroud came on, suddenly we are creating a few chances. Higuain is done, way too slow and looked out of sorts, the kind of striker we have seen way too many times at Chelsea.

If the ban sticks just go with what we have; Tammy and Bats, what’s the worst that can happen; one of them comes good? Not sold on Giroud going into the next season, as things stand he can barely last an hour and can’t manage 2 games in a week.

If we can somehow defer the ban for another season, I would take a punt on either Jovic/Piatek and keep Tammy as 2nd option.

Assuming Giroud starts on Thurs and we get a goal(s) before the 60min, I would sub him off for Higuain, and start the former against Liverpool. Higuain would then be coming off the bench & starting the 2nd leg of our Europa game.

It will be lazy in my opinion to revert to a false ‘9’ again since he seems he has stumbled on a winning team. Pedro has played as a “9” for both Barca/Spain, and will probably look better in that role now as he doesn’t create much.

I looked yesterday doesn’t like to attack space, he likes to find it and loiter there which doesn’t work in the premier league.

Many times we were calling out for him to bust a gut, make a near post run or get across a defender and get on the end of things. Instead he’d hang about in little pockets that vanished pretty quickly.
