December 1, 20232 yr I happened to look at the Jose first title team. Just a few decent players... Lampard, Drogba, Makelele, Robben , Duff, Gudjohnsen, Cole, Gallas, Carvalho , Czech, and a certainly geezer called John Terry. I think that was the season we conceded just 15 league goals all season. Well at least we can look back at those days while we wait for our return to glory.. Tbf to Poch he hasn't taken over an established, stable team, loads of players have been shipped out and loads incoming , Next season, that's when we will have lift off. Honestly

Everything looks worryingly bad at the moment but we have at least seen things turn around quick at this club previously. Tuchel turned a sinking ship around in January 2021, Conte for all his faults had a massive impact back in 2016 and so on, so there's an ounce of hope there that something similar will happen now. An even more recent example is Emerys work at Villa of course. Pochettino's of course already been here for 5 months now and there's been little impact so there's indication that he won't have Tuchel/Conte/Emery levels of impact but there's of course the possibility that his replacement will have an instant impact if results continue to underwhelm and he's sacked. I understand the sentiment behind the "long term planning/building" but considering we are where we are I think we need to sober up to the fact that we need a significant upturn in results and performance to get that foothold I mentioned. Because for me that foothold is called Champions League football. Not only for financial impact that will have but also for the impact some measure of success will have on player morale as well as supporters and everyone else around the club.

Del Boy trying to achieve it selling defective vacuum cleaners and us trying to win the league with defective footballers.

December 4, 20232 yr Fully expecting this lot to continue to be inconsistent with performances, but optimistically we are only 8 points away from 5th (should England retain high coefficients and get a 5th CL spot next season), and 10 from 4th. If we get past the hurdles that are United and Everton, we have a relatively easy Christmas period. Add Lavia and Nkunku back, we could be among the pack for the start of 2024. -Sheffield United (H) : Dec 16th -Wolves (A) : Dec 24th -Palace (H) : Dec 27th -Luton (A) : Dec 30th Edited December 4, 20232 yr by Sconnie Blue

That being said if Lavia and Nkunku are able to come up to speed quickly and stay fit, we should look a lot stronger.

No longer will we have the international break to disrupt things.

December 6, 20232 yr Werner Mount Havertz Chilwell Kante Jorginho James Rudiger T.Silva Azpilicueta Mendy ----------------------------------------- Drogba Bertrand Mata Kalou Lampard Mikel A.Cole Cahill D.Luiz Bosingwa Cech Todd go ahead and match any of these things. Because turning us into a top 10 team isn't going to make you better than Roman that's for sure.
December 6, 20232 yr Humbled today. But I have no doubt the next time we fluke a win the usual suspects will be back pretending we have a talented young squad and Boehly is a better owners than the Glazers because "he cares" and has spent a billion of the clubs money and sacrificed our long term future on his favorite football manager kids. 6 wins in 27 league games across 3 managers. We're not a young talent side, we're not future potential we're simply a very very poor group of players assembled with no real strategy or coherent plan. I'll make sure to tag you next time we win! It's a forum tradition I'm afraid. But luckily for you I doubt that means you'll be getting tagged anytime soon.
December 6, 20232 yr This has been one of the worse takeovers. How have we bought so many poor players for such huge fees. It feels like a critical mistake. £50m on keepers and we look like we still need a keeper. £50m on a left back who is worse than the academy left back we sold. £150m on centre backs, and no established partnership. 39 year old Silva still probably the best one at the club. £350m on centre midfielders, and none remotely as good as Kante who we let leave for free. The hope is now on 19 year old Lavia to knit it together because Enzo+Caicedo combination does not cut the mustard. £200m on wingers, and in all honesty, I wouldve preferred Pulisic to what we have bought, and he was massively underwhelming too. £40m on a couple of strikers. The one area we obviously needed to target following the Lukaku debacle, but we have completely neglected it, and have a rookie converted winger leading the line every week. Utterly embarrassing, and actually puts the clubs future at risk.
December 7, 20232 yr I think we've been accustomed to Kante and Hazard, we have become spoiled. Finding that kind of quality is very difficult.
December 7, 20232 yr Not going to blame Pochettino. It’s at the feet of the person who decided that it was a good idea to spend a silly amount of money on unproven players on very long contracts and buy a lot of them in such a short space of time with the expectations of finishing top 4.
December 7, 20232 yr People saying let's get Flick but he too had issues with defence and loves playing players out of position.
