A European consortium would not fill me with confidence as they would simply be interested in getting their money back as soon as possible in my opinion. And that could be the end of competitive Chelsea if so. I think it highly unlikely that an 86 year old is genuinely interested in suddenly buying an expensive football club, or even being involved in a consortium to do so.

And that could be the end of competitive Chelsea if so. The trouble for the likes of the majority( no all ) that post on here we don’t have huge wealth. So our thinking isn’t based on the same strange thinking that really wealthy people apply. For instance when I buy a car I look at things like MPG or when I buy a pair of shoes I want them primarily to be comfortable, look good and offer value for money. Whereas Mr very wealthy will buy a car that looks good , probably with the ability to travel 3 or4 times with the speed limit but almost certainly a car that carries status. As for those shoes they almost certainly will from a top end brand In other words those with wealth think differently, shop differently and those with even more wealth shop at an even different level. Lets not forget that Chelsea are Champions of both Europe and of course the world. The squad alone is probably worth north of £700million . The Newcastle owners will probably have to invest another £600 million or so add that to the purchase cost and in a blink of an eye your up to a billion. RA is many things one thing he isn’t is naive. His £1.5 billion debt is no different in terms of him paying monies out to the likes of KSE having spent circa that sum buying shares from the likes of Usmanov. In reality there is no difference other than the fact that Kronke had to spend his money buying shares RA has spent his by creating shares in Chelsea FC and then loading a debt on what in effect is a holding company who own those shares. Both are out of pocket and both would look to get their money back should they sell their ownership. Will RA sell ? A year ago I would have said no but now I am far from sure. Would that be the end of Chelsea being a competitive club ? I doubt that would mean that at all. It’s possible that an even more wealthy individual will want to show of their wealth. To be honest when RA shipped up I had no idea who he was nor did I have any idea how things would go but let’s not forget it’s not just been about him paying out vast sums the Chelsea of today generate vast income something that those Newcastle owners will have to somehow achieve whilst adhering to FFP. The ownership thing is a concern but it is irrelevant in the overall scheme of things. Edited March 2, 20224 yr by terraloon

There is an article in The Telegraph today about the stadium project. It will now take an estimated £2.6 billion if we wanted to restart and finish that. Back in 2018 it would have been around £1.4 billion. The club have previously stated that the stadium needs to be built to remain competitive with our major rivals but to the tune of £2.6 billion (and rising I assume) I can't see anyone taking on that kind of a project now. Perhaps if we had the Saudis or City/PSGs Arabs but that's obviously not an option. If Romans sells and we bring in owners that are mostly interested in lining their own pockets I think we cease to be competitive fairly shortly after that. We've lost over £200 million accumulated over the last three financial years and are still utterly dependant on Romans money. And that's with breaking even in the transfer market.

In terms of income gate receipts at other other clubs at most (24-26%) of total income and to achieve the uplift from the current 13 or so% that we currently enjoy. Even investing £1 billion in a total rebuild didn’t really make economic sense. So realistically the new stadium project was probably a folly. What the planning exercise did achieve was establishing a solution to the egress issue and whilst not ideal the far cheaper and indeed practical option would be a stand by stand rebuild which whilst it won’t achieve a 60k capacity could probably lift the numbers closer to 50-55 k If you look to North London then neither of those two clubs realistically yet felt the benefit of their costly rebuild indeed Arsenal still owe north of £210 million in respect of their rebuild and the recent need to refinance that debt has extended the debt by £32 million and indeed the length of time taken to repay the capital with the interest on the debt ( which is now to KSE) way past the original 2031 timeline.

And that a total revamp of the entire property was the only solution.

With the figure of £2.6 billion now quoted to redevelop Stamford Bridge, moving away from SW6 may make more financial sense.
March 2, 20224 yr shameless media, do they ask Eddie Howe about human rights in Saudi Arabia every press conference? brilliant answer from Tuchel
March 2, 20224 yr I hate the media honestly and that dumb Labour MP. Roman did next to nothing to initiate this war. The reason why I said "next to nothing" because he is linked with Putin as Roman's a billionaire. That's it. There is no evidence that Roman agrees with Putin to start a war with Ukraine. None. But just like the majority of poor Russians who hate Putin for what he's doing, the world is treating all of them as war criminals. I understand why, but imagine if you were Russian and don't agree to Putin's disgusting, vile war with Ukraine. You're in the mud. It's sad, and sadly Roman's name is getting dragged through the mud because of Putin. Putin can't get away with this once the war is over. He needs to be dethroned and shamed. He's destroying lives, not just for Ukrainians (and my heart goes to them so much), but for the Russians - his OWN people who didn't want war. Edited March 2, 20224 yr by Mana

March 2, 20224 yr Well if Roman really wants the club sold, he would lower the asking price. Otherwise he's still holding on to us. Which is fine by me.
March 2, 20224 yr World Champions a few weeks back to a full blown crisis for the club since save the bridge. I can’t even comprehend the magnitude of this at the minute but it’s bad, if only Roman had approved that stadium expansion back in 2017 when we got permission from the council. It would have secured our future, if anything Roman f**ked us over there.. as great as he’s been for us an owner.
March 2, 20224 yr Suspect he will sell around £1.8 bn. He will hold out for higher yet will be reminded late in the day that his political window to avoid Sanctions is almost up. The govt seems to be not looking to punish oligarchs that have played by the rules in the UK yet won't allow this to continue much longer as the US might start to become involved as the war ratchets up. One thing also occurred to me don't we also have Russian owners of UK newspapers?
March 2, 20224 yr If Roman has to sell his UK assets he couldn't have picked a worse time to convert Sterling to Ruble.

American owners are famous for piling their acquisition debt on the club with interest so that's another worry for us right now.

March 2, 20224 yr Chelsea owes Abramovitch a little over 2 bn, consisting of the 150 purchase price plus the subsequent investment in form of loans. In a normall course of business sale it might be worth 3 bn according to what I have read and despite the stadium issues. If it’s a forced fire sale there will be a discount. I think he may be selling in part to protect the club which will need ongoing money for new players every season. If he is frozen out that won’t be possible. It’s an incredible shame but ther are many in Ukraine with far bigger problems.
March 2, 20224 yr Weekly PMQ's straight into the oligarchs. Roman better rush this sale through quick or he will lose the lot, he may as well forget the debt.
