I fear the decision not to redevelop the bridge in 2018 when all the approvals were granted will be looked back on for years/decades to come now. On the flip side of that, possibly we wouldn’t have invested in the squad and won the Champions league but nonetheless. We have a strong academy with a spine of young players, which will hold us up but the loyalty of those homegrown players will be tested over and over if we don’t get the right owner.

Going to be an interesting few days ahead.

Definitely not excited. I am devastated. We will never find an owner as passionate as Roman. The used to attend all games, even youth ones and you could see the genuine passion he had. No other owner comes close.

Nobody expected Abramovich's time with us to end so abruptly, but I would be lying if I said I didn't feel this day was coming. It's been building up to this moment since 2018.

Oh well, at least he never got bored of the club like everybody outside the club said he would.

It's been on the cards since 2014.

Definitely not excited, atm I’m more concerned with the heightened escalation of all out war….

No doubt it’s a blow to the club, but there’s also a curiosity of what’s coming next in the club’s long chapter.

I guess having lived through tougher times of seeing the club struggle, Roman came along and made all our dreams come true which is something we will forever be grateful for but shouldn’t take for granted.

Not sure of your age, but I can understand younger fans being concerned as they’ve only ever known the club for its consistent success and Roman being the owner of the club.

The unknown is scary, but we might also surprise ourselves on how resilient we are. Time will tell how this plays out…

For the sake of nostalgia, here’s the BBC article from 2003 when it was announced Abramovich had bought the club.

I remember it vividly. I was 14 at the time and coming back from a family holiday. On the plane someone had a newspaper and was reading the story. My dad oversaw it and read the headline about Roman taking over. Felt a bit surreal when we got home, turned on the news and saw he had taken over. We were going to games before his takeover and I can't remember there being any talk or rumours about Abramovich. It was excitement there on though.

We've won everything there is to win. Nobody can take that history away. I do thank Roman for what he did to Chelsea. He did grow to love the club. Imagine if he'd taken over at Spurs though, which has been said was close to happening 😳

Exactly. We've had unprecedented success under Roman, but the club will continue with or without him.

This x1000.

I remember in the 80's when it looked like the club was going to be destroyed by Marler and David Bulstrode. That was definitely a bleak time for the club but we survived.

I wish I shared they excitement. Unfortunately I think it's very possible we end up with a Glazer/Kroenke type.

Although that said with Tuchel here (apparently he wanted a Levekusen esque job if it didn't work here so I don't think he'll walk) and the academy boys we still have we might just might be able to maintain some level of success inspite of that.

I don't think many potential new owners will be like Roman and reinvest the income every year to the max to ensure competitiveness, there is a real danger that we become like Utd/Arsenal where we win a cup every 2 or 3 years and regularly miss out on CL qualification.

Unless we have a Saudi level rich owner then we can forget about expanding the stadium too.

Ah boll*cks. This is a real sad way for his time to end.

A fire sale of the club does not inspire confidence in a new owner.

I can only hope I am very wrong again. As I loved Ken as our owner and was not happy when he sold. Roman blew away my wildest dreams.

In general my opinion  of most of rich from Europe and North America is their goal is to become more rich, so think we are on the path to become Arsenal or United 2.0.

In recent times, Chelsea has been a great distraction from the political, economical and general ongoings the world has conjured up. Now we’re dealing with a cataclysmic shift and it’s going to take some adjusting to and a tsunami of banter and laughter from our rivals. Mason Mount, Reece James and all our academy boys will be showing their true colours in the future if we do become an Arsenal 2.0.

The war in the Ukraine is the biggest concern; Putin is enough of a cretin to use nuclear weapons if he feels things aren't going quickly enough.

I suppose a new Chelsea owner could be a consortium looking for a way to perform a neat bookkeeping trick, or a hyper-rich megalomaniac. In any case, not someone who bleeds blue. That's something that we need to keep doing.
