I'm sure they would try to pin the acquisition debt on the club and then spend on our income on paying interest on that and line their own pockets. At the expense of competing and keeping our best players of course but that's my main fear right now.

I hope Roman doesn't just sell the club to anyone who's willing to give him his money back. If he really cares about the club he'll care about what happens to it after he's gone and not just let some greedy consortium ruin it.

Yes possible of course, but it's not an attractive investment for anyone to take on.

I guess having lived through tougher times of seeing the club struggle, Roman came along and made all our dreams come true which is something we will forever be grateful for but shouldn’t take for granted.

Not sure of your age, but I can understand younger fans being concerned as they’ve only ever known the club for its consistent success and Roman being the owner of the club.

The unknown is scary, but we might also surprise ourselves on how resilient we are. Time will tell how this plays out…

I am in my late 30s and have only seen a couple of non-Roman years. I know as everything in life, nothing is permanent. Roman was really pushing us to be self-sustaining and we would have if the stadium had been rebuilt. It is unfortunate he is forced to sell before we could do that.

On the positive side, this means Tuchel might have a longer reign which I am happy about.

1988 was my lowest point, this doesn't come close to that, we were relegated to Division 2, electric fencing around the ground, club financially on it's knees, horrible kits, CCTV spoiling all the fun, yeah life was grim at CFC back then.

New owners may want their own man. Fresh start and all.

Well even if we end up with Arsenal/United owners we have experienced some amazing times under Roman, ones I never expected to see. Always have that.

Agreed. That was a massive low. Although we almost dropped into the old Div 3 a few years before that, we had a crap team at the time. The relegation in 88 was particularly depressing since it marked the end of that exciting team that was promoted in 84. Not to mention wee Pat moving on to Everton. Although after reading his book I realise he would have left whether we stayed up or not as he had been gradually pushed out by the management team at the time.

Remember that first game of the 88-89 season. No terraces open following the trouble against Boro, and we were turned over 2-1 by Blackburn. In fact I think we got 3 points from our first 6 before Bobby Campbell turned things around.

Real shame that it seems that he is being forced to sell the club. You can tell he loves the club and is passionate about it. To have it end so abruptly is a shame given he was planning to hand it over to his son. 
 

Not keen on American owners - they commercialise everything and only look at the £££’s. That said, given the situation, we’d be happy with someone who buy and keep us elite. 
 

I suppose the good news is that this isn’t a deal where people will be making money with a view to selling. They won’t be buying cheap and selling high so that will put a lot of people off. 
 

Another point, I wonder if Roman has done a deal with the government - I.e get out quickly and we won’t sanction you. You have 2/3/4 weeks to leave. Wouldn’t surprise me - it’s not in the Government’s interest to bankrupt Chelsea and annoy thousands/millions of fans.

It's been an outspoken goal for fifteen odd years (since Kenyon) at the club but it's never really been achieved bar for an odd year here and there.

The drive for on pitch success came first. I imagine new owners will target the self sufficient thing far more importantly.

To be honest to acquire Chelsea FC is some acquisition, currently best team in Europe/World this is massive, the Biggest Blue chip football team currently on the market, from a greedy point of view, i hope someone monumentally rich takes over, nice bragging rights at the exclusive 'Uber billionaires boys club'

And a lot of other fans forget or don't know when taking the piss out of our crowds was we were the most expensive ground in the country.  Football has gone from being owned by local businessmen in the 60's and 70's to millionaires in the 90's to billionaires in the noughties. When normal football fans are discussing which billionaires are going to take over our club while people are getting slaughtered in the Ukraine it makes me a little uneasy.

Any deal will have to be quick, favouring the buyer. There is increasing pressure within UK government to have Roman's assets frozen. He may regret rejecting that offer last week.

Of course I’ve got no idea whether Todd Boehly and Mark Walter would still be interested, but you never know. However, that there was interest  from Boehly and Walter just three years ago indicates that an American consortium buying the club is a strong possibility.

All is not lost yet. Not by a long way.

Allegedly Roman wants 3 Billion pounds for our beloved club and has allegedly been courting serious offers per various media outlets, just like he has allegedly hurriedly put up all his UK gaffs for sale
