I never get a truly explication about this differences between both From what I can gather Todd/Eghbali and co wanted a collaborative effort from top to bottom whereas Tuchel wanted to just be left alone to coach. Very ironic Roman/Marina's found their perfect manager at the very end.

Tuchel basically had to handle the new owners during their idiot stage in the summer. Matt Law reported they tried to push Ronaldo of all players on him five or six times over the duration of the summer, The Athletic reported they suggested we switch to the well known 4-4-3 formation etc. Best thing to do would have been to bring the football people in first and then make the huge decisions after. Anyone think Vivell would have sacked Tuchel for Potter? I certainly don't.

I wouldn't consider either a traditional sporting director in the sense they are responsible for the entire structure and ethos of the club on and off the pitch. Marina got deals done and to this day I am not sure what Cech even responsible for. To me it seemed like he served as a middle man between manager and Marina.

If the transfer made financial sense, she'd approve it. Still wouldn't ever consider her a traditional sporting director.

Also quite telling that Boehly announced himself as the new interim sporting director as it was announced that Marina was gone... We had a sporting director up until 2017 and that was Emenalo but after that she absorbed that role into her own. And promoted McLachlan as her right hand man to identify targets and that was obviously a complete disaster.
March 15, 20233 yr I think our recruting was so bad was because the departing of emenalo. afterwards we buy a lot of sh*t players that can't be coincidence

March 18, 20233 yr Apparently we're about to buy a stake in Strabourg. Haven't been a fan of some of Boehly's footballing decisions, but the multi-club model seems really promising

March 18, 20233 yr I hope Boehly doesn't spend a penny on new players. If he lets Potter continue it is a total waste of money. Let's be active on transfer markets after five years.

Everything about the summer was too rash. All over the place in the transfer market, making us look stupid as a club at times, sacking Tuchel and hiring Potter of all coaches as his replacement. They seemed to have calmed down a bit since then, but we are still paying for that now.

Question marks are there on Gusto, Santos and DD Fofana, however Santos in particular looks impressive. Badiashile looks value for money in this crazy market. Mudryk? Let's see, too early for me to judge. Enzo? He is our Modric. Hopefully we can hold on to him, he is worth every penny.

I think he is an entertainer and in the right structure and used in the correct way he could be one of the most influential AMs in the division

March 19, 20233 yr Todd not too happy then. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11877955/S-f-ing-game-Chelsea-owner-Boehly-makes-frustration-known-2-2-draw-Everton.html
March 19, 20233 yr The opportunity to sack Potter has come and gone already. (After Saints). I'd give him the Champions League and see what happens. Although, if he is sacked during the international break, I understand.
March 19, 20233 yr Todd is Potters biggest supporter and thenone that went after him the strongest. If his faith is eroding then Potter won't be given much more time.

I wonder if the probability of missing out on the Champions League for 23/24 is actually now starting to bite ? It's going to be a huge hit on the TV revenue, tens of millions of pounds and possibly 10-15% of turnover, and I highly doubt Clearlake allowed for that in their budgeting model. We had two slim chances of qualifying for next year. In the space of three days those chances have significantly eroded, with an almost impossibly difficult QF/SF draw for this year's competition, and then the loss of two points to Everton pretty much removing the slimmest of slim outside chances that we might still make the Top 4 with a strong run of wins to the end of the season.

Whether he gets beyond that may well depend on how we do in April. 8 games including the 2 QF's against Real Madrid.

I think if it was purely about qualifying for next season's Champions League they would have taken action in January/February. Even though there will be a financial hit, it has been pretty clear now for some time that we are unlikely to be in Europe next season.
