If business continuity is their thing, they really shot themselves in the foot by sacking Potter after 6 months into the 'project', and I'm not even going to mention Tuchel. It's been said many times before, they had no understanding of European football, just copy/paste the script from MLB is never going to work. Maybe in baseball a team could live with couple of bad seasons with no continental games and relegation, completely different from European football. Assume they have good intention for the club, their arrogance totally ruined the past 18 months or so, and it will take time and lots of money to get back to the top 4.

Throwing money might not work either due to  FFP.

We need to give it time which might mean treading water for a while, having been to one final and now in a quarter final Poch should get more time.

Doesn't mean we will get back to the top and shouldn't either we need to be adept and Poch needs to keep developing the players.

If we change so soon again with such a young bunch of players we could end up in trouble.

Mudryk's best game to date.

Jackson's dribbling or decision making needs to improve  when the pass is not on.

Disasi needs to welly it more not take chances in the box.

Yes the money option seems to have closed now after such a crazy initial splurge. FFP rules will ensure that we cannot just throw more money at the problems even if the owners are willing. In fact they first have to balance the books for all the spending over the last 2 years. We will have to hope that some of these young players (e.g. Santos, Angelo Gabriel, Washington, Paez) work out in the next few years. I don't see too many big signings happening in the next few windows as we try to navigate the FFP rules. We will likely have some clarity on that this summer as we see which players get offloaded, and whether we breach any FFP rules. Hopefully the situation is not as bad as some are speculating...

I was looking at Juventus FC as they got penalised and have not won anything since 2021.

Quite interesting actually as the authorities threatened hard action and the fans responded by saying if they did this they would all cancel thier tv subscriptions  to Sky and the like and after this the penalty was reduced somewhat. Currently sitting 2nd in Serie A with a 10 point gap.

We now see just how FFP is going to hurt, it does not respect club history.

Juve have been punished a couple of times. Even though they haven't won anything the last few years they still manage to qualify for European football almost every season.

Has anyone got any idea what percentages each entity has in the BlueCo consortium ?

  • Todd Boehly
  • Clearlake Capital
  • Hansjörg Wyss
  • Mark Walter

All that’s known is that Clearlake owns about 50% and the rest minority shares.

It's been a while and I don't remember whether it was Younes, Jan on football therapy or George Benson on their respective show that said Clearlake have just under 63% of the club, Todd has 10% and Wyss 2%. Never heard mention of how much Mark Walter has, maybe his and Todd is a joint investment and share the 10%.

Seeing as you are 25% short I'd say Walter must have 25% if your other numbers are correct !

Weird if Wyss only has 2% ... makes you wonder why he bothered for such a small share, and at 88 years old now as well LOL. Champagne, cigars and strippers for me at that age if I make it that far (don't tell my wife !) :-)

My biggest gripe with the owners is how, with all that funding behind them, they managed to come up with Winstanley and Stewart as the guys to shape the club.

Roman hired Peter Kenyon from Manchester United

City took Txiki Begiristain from Barcelona, to lay the groundwork for Guardiola to be appointed as manager.

We've gone to Brighton and Monaco ...

All a bit Primark vs Harrods isn't it ?

Yeah it does make me question whether they have actually got elite people running the club. I mean, their signings haven’t been horrendous but I think our standards have dropped so low that we’ve forgotten what an elite player looks like.

A good indicator of how our club is viewed Worldwide. Glad we are on that top 10 list. As a club we need the revenue coming from the merch. We need to go up on this list.

The new stadium is a must or a rebuild. The news of Tottenham making much more money on home games attendance was bad.

Btw that is also a good indicator of the need to win trophies to fill the stadium. It seems you don't need to. You can bottle it for years but if your stadium is in a big city like London it doesn't really matter. We could probably fill 70k seater most games.

I know things like this probably anger the match going fans but this is the reality of financies in the world football.

Just watching the Obi Mikel podcast, they've got Petr on there this week and he's made a point which pretty much sums up where the new owners have gone wrong and also makes you wish he stuck around to warn them off it.

They're discussing how young players settle in at new clubs compared to older/more experienced players and how Mikel himself did really well under a lot of pressure after the United scenario. But Petr highlighted how he was able to be a passenger whilst he settled in and found his feet, as there were many drivers in the squad.

Petr said that when you're a young player, you're never the driver of the team, you're always the passenger. The should already be drivers in the team that you follow. Then, as you get older, you might become a driver. Some passengers become drivers quicker than others and some don't ever become drivers.

Its exactly what we have, a team of passengers with little to no recognised drivers to learn from. You can see players like Enzo and Palmer becoming drivers in the future, even with their winning experience so far before coming to us they're not there yet.

But I think it also adds to why many haven't been able to settle in. Its hard to settle when everyone else is trying to settle too.

Wish they'd get big Pete and a few of the others back in advisory roles to help with the sh*t heap we are in currently.

In an ideal world, I wish we had kept Rudiger or Christensen, one of the two, preferably Rudiger. And I wish we managed to hold onto either Kovacic or Jorginho. Because we sold them two for scraps anyway and they would've at least added valuable experience into the side.

We did need a good clearout, but we went too far.

This whole build around the kids for the future thing been done and failed in the past, most noticeably with Arsenal under Wenger's closing stages.  They never won anything, the real top players (e.g. Cesc)  left to win trophies elsewhere, the lesser players ( Bendnter, Sederos) just faded completely. Of course, the know it all owners would not check football history before they started their revolution. European football is totally different from MLB or NFL, you have a couple of bad seasons, takes a long time to climb back. Just ask United, Arsenal etc

I agree. The right blend of experience and young talent is critical. While it was fine to look for some promising young players, we also needed some experienced players to provide that balance. Once Thiago leaves, we will have very few players with much more than a couple of years experience in first team football.

Our plan under Boehly is to sign young player on cheap salary on long term contract but everyone know team success is highly correlated with salary.

I don't think we'll see that policy reflected in the numbers until the 23/24 annual report

The 22/23 wage bill for us is going to be up around Man City level apparently (our figures are not yet released, so still 21/22 in that table you're showing)

Seen the tweets about Mount sale being included in the previous account reporting so therefore, we will need alot of player sales in the summer. Now we know why Conor isn’t getting a new contract.

The club are playing a risky strategy as clubs don’t seem to be spending as much on transfers. Big risk.

I listened to Big Pete as well. What a brilliant man that is. His analogy was good as well.

Thing is..we haven't seen one club in world football do what we did with complete squad overhaul. No one in media, management or footballing staff have seen a top club do this. This is the first.

I agree what Pete said about passengers and drivers. Makes a ton of sense.

What I don't connect is why can't our plan work? I know the risk is higher when we essentially have dropped the children in the deep end of the pool. However if the lads react well under a good coach like Pochettino they can be the drivers in the near future having all the experience smacked to their face without easing them in.

It is naturally more risky BUT if the plan works we have built a spine for our squad with young players. Young players are much easier to mould than experienced ones. And when you mould the stability in managers/coaches come much more essential. This is why I don't want us to hesitate with Pochettino.

And we will adjust the squad every window. Maybe we buy one experienced player in the next window that matches the squad. Maybe Enzo takes a big step to lead the team. Maybe James is injury free and takes the lead. Maybe Nkunku is healthy and leads the front line.

What is so hard for us fans is to wait for all this to happen. We can be selfish of course but I'd adjust expectations and enjoy the kids grow.

Anyone seen any sense made of the numbers? Saw some tweets but nothing concrete.
