February 21, 20242 yr Strange how us taking players, staff etc from Brighton is a terribly embarrassing thing, yet Liverpool's infatuation with Southampton (albeit over a longer period) was seen as a masterstroke.

And your point? When Liverpool did it, it wás embarrassing. To date I don't respect Klopp for the way he went about tapping up VVD. Should I not call a spade, what it is because it is concerning Chelsea? The implied and conveyed meaning is Brighton is better than us, and whether you like it or not, that's not a ringing endorsement. So far what have their players or staff brought us? You'd expect with all the bragadocious statements Boehly et al made when coming in, they would be coming in with a master plan that went simply beyond having conversations over dinner with Tony and all of a sudden deciding his setup was immensely better than the one they walked into and pronto decide to buy all and Sundry related to Brighton.

In general, most pundits thought it was great getting all these players from Southampton, yet were buying from Brighton and its embarrassing. It isnt, its sport, its football, clubs buy from clubs, why does anyone give a sh*t where they come from if its the right player/staff member.

I think this is a case of you not noticing the criticism when it's another club. Liverpool were widely laughed at for their obsession with Southampton. And outside of VVD and Mane it didn't work. Its almost certainly not Boehly pushing the Brighton thing but the initial people he's brought in who are just hiring the people they trust. Happens in every business in the world. I doubt we will actually go and sign Brighton players now unless they are good value.
February 21, 20242 yr If in 5 years time we have an effective global and domestic scouting system in place, where our feeder clubs + the academy are producing & developing talent at a consistent basis, utilizing those players as an asset to the first team or by making a profit on them to create a sustainable revenue stream, nobody is going to give a sh*t we raided Brighton.
February 21, 20242 yr To me it will be interesting to do a direct comparison between our owners and Ratcliffe at United after he's been there a couple of years. To me it seems like he's doing a lot of things right at Manchester United who are in a somewhat similar situation to the one we were in before Clearlake took over but its of course far too early to conclude on him yet. But since he did make a last ditch effort at aquiring our club it will be interesting to see what could have been.

That's a pretty damn big if first of all. And secondly, people definitly will give a damn if we are still a mid-table club fighting it out with West Ham and Wolves in five years. Even if there was a sustainable revenue stream which of course is the owners ultimate goal with this football club. Edited February 22, 20242 yr by OriginalS
February 22, 20242 yr if the article has some truth, got laugh about what we got ourselves into, basically we are playing some kind of accounting game and forgot all about football. Just play Sanchez and Chaloabah, pretty sure we won't get into the dreaded conference league.
February 22, 20242 yr I'm not sure if this is the appropriate thread to place this news, but since it relates to the sale of the Club I thought it would be interesting to have it around here. Ukrainian Human Rights groups are urging Rishi Sunak to release £2.5bn from the sale that has been frozen in an account for two years. I find it amazing that the government were so quick to freeze Abramovich's assets and prevent Chelsea from doing any business, but are still sitting on the money without letting it go to the original purpose, helping Ukrainian victims. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2024/feb/22/roman-abramovich-ukraine-rishi-sunak-release-funds-chelsea-sale

The conference league has little financial incentive compared to the Champions league. That is the only point. I find it rich they are posting this now, days before the final, when the possibility of qualifying for the Champions League died months ago. Edited February 22, 20242 yr by Sconnie Blue

I also think that a lot of focus is put on the here and now, as well as the ultimate end goal, without thinking about the journey and how this plan is to be achieved. The financial model here has often been likened to the housing market. Own a house long enough and you'll make money on it as all property appreciates. But its not an accurate parallel. We have spent tens of millions on youngsters that we hope will become talents over the next 5 years. They may of course, but we have bought so many that it is inconceivable that, for instance where we have 6 right wingers, all roughly the same age, that they will all become superstars. But regardless of any of this, it has to be borne in mind that the rest of Europe are pretty much on the breadline financially. with possibly Bayern, PSG and Real with proper money to spend (totally discount the other totally corrupt Spanish team). This is regularly evidenced by the cross European transfer fees being paid. Most deals are configured as loans initially anyway. So it is fair to assume that by the time that we want to cash in on a Santos or a Casadei, nobody in Europe will have the money to pay us what we deem to be sufficient to hit the projected profit targets. Who then in our home market is going to buy these players from us when they have spent most of their careers on loans in the Championship or abroad, even more so if our own first team continue to languish in mid table. What makes the players that we have bought so sought after for the rest of the PL when they can go into the same markets and obtain similar talents themselves, probably for a lot less anyway.
February 25, 20242 yr Can't get their hires right. But you know what? They can't even get their fecking sackings right. Never seen such malpractise.
February 25, 20242 yr Most pathetic thing i've ever seen in my life! Against a development squad! Change the club name Toddy, change it and let us all remember Chelsea FC for what we were and stop soiling our legacy for all eternity.
February 25, 20242 yr Hypothetically if you'd shown our current squad to someone the day Clearlake took over and said this is the squad we'll have in 2 years. You'd have expected Boehly to be like the Glazers and us to have made £300m net profit on transfers. The fact we've spent so much on such an untalented squad must make him a lock for the worst owner in premier league history. It's just a shame it was us who got stuck with him, imagine if they'd bought Arsenal a few years ago? They'd be a couple divisions down by now.
February 25, 20242 yr The owners are useless. The manager is wet. The players are cowards. The buck stops with Clearlake or whatever the parent company of Chelsea is called. We're not improving in any area of the club - its been almost two years now. Stepping back, what an embarrassment. 5 consecutive domestic cup final defeats, scoring 1 goal in 5 games. I know thats not all Clearlake, but it ain't getting any better! Edited February 25, 20242 yr by PhilH930
