If you read the article in the Independent West Hams own LGBT  group (Pride of Irons) condemned the chanting. They said the chants were insulting to all LGBT fans including their own. They did not say it was alright to insult LGBT fans of any club.

In my post before I quoted the fan group from the article.

“We're better than that and can come up with much smarter chants that don't abuse our own fans.

That comes across to me that it’s ok to abuse people as long as they don’t support your club.

Probably should quote the preceeding paragraph as well. The wording isn't perfect but they're obviously saying "don't be homophobic, it's insulting to LGBT people regardless of club, you total f**king morons".

"When you use homophobic chants you aren't abusing most Chelsea fans who will be straight, but all gay fans whether they support Chelsea or West Ham."

I would have loved someone at Chelsea to have said,

"Our fans get labelled racist on a constant basis, fairly, because of incidents in the past. Since then our club have made great efforts to attack this, successfully, and after the second outrageous racist incident by Tottenham fans in 2 years, we need to see their club make the same efforts"

Before the game I looked on their forum and saw the usual bad mouthing of our beloved club. References to Stamford Bridge as the Nazi Dome and that we are all racists. Incredible.

Two years ago, one of their fans threw a banana skin at an Arsenal player. Unlike the Manc c*** incident no ambiguity with the banana skin incident.

I hope they find the bloke from yesterday.

Spurs fans … people who live in class houses should be careful when they thrown stones.

The thing that has surprised me the most yesterday is that it seems that no one has attempted to stop the racist idiot - Tannoy 3 times!

If I saw someone shouting racist abuse at a game I’d grass him and get the stewards to take him away. There’s really no place for racism, anywhere.

Not a single peep from even Dan Levene about y*d being sung or chanted yesterday. Not a peep from anyone about p*key being used after the club made their first real statement before the west ham game about it. Our club (not our fans) need to be given the credit they are due for stamping out mindless racism from our club to the extent it has.

Tottenham need to get some serious attention as this is the second outrageous incident in 2 years.

Well I can only hope that the supporters around him reported him to a steward and he was rightfully ejected and will never go to a game again. (Just read the article, that is what happened and that's a good thing. Our fans should be praised for this, we are self policing and getting the rot out)

It is confusing though. Incredible stupidity.

I'm fed the f**k up with the reporting around Chelsea in the media. One of our players gets racially abused and there's little or no mention of the Spurs fans.

Did they arrest anybody yesterday? I haven't heard anything, and the arrest send to be the main difference here.

True there's a difference between an arrest and an accusation. But Rudiger was clearly pointing to the Spurs' fans when he made the complaint - so shouldn't the headlines read "Spurs fans accused of racism by Chelsea player"? Or some similar phrasing. That simply has not happened in any of yesterday's headlines. Even as a basic reporting of events.

I''m delighted our fans have outed the Chelsea idiot who racially abused Son, but it just seems that even when we do the right thing it's reported negatively. Shouldn't this be one of the ways forward, fans policing it themselves? It should be held up as a massive positive step that Chelsea supporters have turned in 'one of their own' yet only one headline is reporting it that way.

Seriously what the f**k is wrong with people. We live in a multicultural society which the vast majority of us are proud to be part of and have a multicultural team.

Who goes to a footy match and thinks this is ok to do. Well not just at a footy match in life in general. Disgraceful from a small minority of Spurs and our fan if true, disgusting! At least we reported it.

That is absolutely pathetic.

Thank you for bringing light on this, I've notice Spurs fans aren't mentioned in the headlines, but "Chelsea fan" is plastered everywhere when it comes to Son.

I have a strong feeling this is going to come back on us anyway. Spurs already say that their investigation alongside the Police, their state of the art cctv and lip readers has turned up no evidence. We’ll end up being accused of making false allegations. Isn’t that what happened with Mikel and that ref  a few years back?

The had their stewards stood there recording us with handheld devices. Maybe they should concentrate on their own mob next time?

I'm usually one of those people that will roll their eyes at a "media agenda" but to be fair, it makes one raise their eyebrows and at least consider the facts. Anytime the Sun, or the Guardian, or the Mirror etc can attribute Chelsea in any kind of negative light, they seem to do it. That story about the bloke that got in trouble last week was reported as a "former Chelsea player" and the bastard played for at least 10 other clubs and Chelsea wasn't even his primary club.

I understand that tying in Chelsea in a headline can get a lot more reach and generate more clicks on their articles and websites, but there seems to be enough to make a strong sentiment that the media absolutely has favorites.

i'd be really interested to hear what the guy was accused of saying, to racially abuse a Korean takes some thought process, is you " Dog eating Korean" or the like racially abusive, because stating actual facts is pushing racism, i only use that phrase because i'm struggling to think how he would be abused, in the heat of conflict, a lot easier to abuse say rudiger with anything about being black??

If they were under the influence of several pints already likely to be more emotive, may be did not even mention Korean perhaps more about the facial features with a four letter expletive added on.

it just seems such a weird world we liven, old boys like me who witnessed horrendous Racial abuse from the terraces, probably struggle with the word 'Racism and all its connotations, but cheers @Strider6003, for an explanation i was probably grasping for, horrendous that the media will now be filled with 'Chelsea racists again" ffs???

I doubt CCTV and lip reading will find someone making a monkey noise, it's not like talking or shouting words, it's a noise you can make without even distorting your face too much.

If they identify the abuse on the audio, and roughly what stand/section it came from, that should be enough to punish the club if not the perpetrator, fines firstly then point deductions for future incidents. Eventually the fans around the perpetrators will start to turn on them.
