February 19, 20197 yr Anyone who was listening to Talksport between 4 & 5pm probably herd the Chelsea fan phone in and suggest Emma as the mens interim boss. And put across some very good points as to why she should be given a go as well. What do you lot think? It's an interesting proposal for sure. And would certainly put the club in a new light.
February 19, 20197 yr Depends on what level you believe womens football to be at terms of tactics. Personally I dont think the standard is anywhere near the premier league, so would the club hire a successful championship or league 1 manager? Not a chance. Maybe she could be a success here, she is very knowledgeable and I've heard her speak well on sky, but will she garner the respect from our dressing room? Probably not.

Do you think that she wouldn't gain the respect of the players due to the level of football that she comes from, or purely because she's a woman?
February 19, 20197 yr What are the points? I'm not against employing a woman in this role, but I assume she wouldn't have much experience so perhaps a No2 stint might be best first?

Without going back and listening again, the gist of it was that she's already employed at the club, has a proven track record with the woman's team and apparently is a fantastic man manager. Also, it would do the clubs image the world of good if we become the first pro mans team to employ a female manager.

I would like to think it is the former, but sexism is pretty rife in the work place, so I think it would be naive to think it wouldn't be an issue in such a Male dominated industry.
February 19, 20197 yr A woman managing a mans team? The lunatics are taking over the asylum! Just beating some of our elderly, less progressive fan to the punch (they’re probably struggling to get out of the armchair anyway). She’s done well with the women’s team, why not give her a chance?
February 19, 20197 yr Seriously? What has sexism or any other ism got to do with it? This club's fanbase is in uproar at the moment because our manager apparently is not good enough, has never won anything, can't cope with the tactical and physical aspects of top flight premier league football. The proposed answer, appoint Emma Hayes because she is involved in the club and is a decent coach. Never played the game either, just like Sarri, so why not. What qualifications can she possibly have. She talks sensibly. So did Merson last night, and he's a Chelsea fan. She's a decent coach, so are probably 70 other people in the game at the moment. This is nothing against her but what qualifications does Emma Hayes have to meet the demands of top 6 premier league football. Its nothing to do with the fact that Emma Hayes is a woman, it is simply that she is under qualified for this particular role. Gianfranco Zola talks a really good game, is a great bloke, club legend and a decent coach. How many of us want him as our manager?

February 20, 20197 yr I'm ashamed to admit that this idea never even occurred to me. I think it's a brilliant idea. All of a sudden there would be a visible route for women into elite men's football, seen by all the world. Do it - we could come 14th and it wouldn't matter - some things are more important than the club. And imagine, just imagine, if Hayes were able to win the Europa League. What a watershed moment that could be. Might have the added benefit of flushing out certain behaviours as well... some of the reaction towards Eva in particular was disgusting.
February 20, 20197 yr I believe she also said it took 18/19 months to get the Chelsea ladies’ team playing the way she wanted. If it was as an interim it would be about 3/4 months. Other points to have in mind. - Chelsea ladies have a very good squad for the level they’re competing at. (As opposed to us) - They’re midway through their season so it would be very unfair to steal their manager from them for the remainder of it. - She’s admitted herself it took a year and a half to implement what she wanted from the women’s team. - would she get the respect from our squad? Rightly or wrongly, this squad has issues with Conte, Jose & now Sarri - would the first female manager get on better? I do follow the women’s team and they are a very good side for league and Hayes clearly knows her stuff, I just don’t think it would be fair on them to take her for such a short stint.
February 20, 20197 yr She’d probably be just as good as anyone else as an interim. I’m sure the players would be ok with it as well and are probably aware of the good work she’s done with the ladies team. Men manage women’s team so why not the other way around. I‘d prefer it if we didn’t need an interim though. Either commit to Sarri and let him try and fix whatever’s wrong with our team at the moment, or find a proper replacement.
February 20, 20197 yr This just isn't going to happen. The conversation should be is she worth a coaching job. The difference in quality is incredibly vast.
February 20, 20197 yr Stick with what we have until the end of the season. Then if need be move on. I don't think an interim appointment will solve anything.
April 22, 20197 yr https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/04/20/chelsea-manager-emma-hayes-prepared-biggest-game-managerial/ “Everyone who works with me on the technical side knows that I work to have no regrets. I’m prepared to change things. I’m not stubborn about tactics. Formations are merely f*****g numbers. It’s all about space and who is hurting us where. That’s how I view the game.
April 22, 20197 yr The interimship is not a good idea as mentioned in many of the above posts not least the ladies unfairly losing their manager. But I think she would be a welcome addition to our coaching staff. I watched her interviews and punidtry and she seems to be a sharp person. She is also somewhat our product and done a good job with the ladies. For women in football this would be a massive thing however you need to be very objective. Can she bring something else to the team? I'm all for gender equality but it just can't be for that. People close to her would know if she was up for the job.
May 20, 20197 yr Give her a coaching job for the mens team first. Don't just elevate someone to the top job who has never managed in the mens game. It would be a PR stunt to make her the manager and ultimately not a good one when every sexist remark on twitter and at the game gets publicised. Because that will happen if she is elevated straight to the top job.

Which we have to consider might be the reason. If the reason is talent -although I think she can't be there yet and should get a coaching job first - then it's worth doing.
