Mason Mount

Featured Replies

No way Bayern will pay anywhere close to 70M for Mason. With only a year left on his contract, most bidders would be happy to take a back seat and let us cave in first. This is not the Hazard situation, and no Mariana either.

Yes but what are the performance indicators?

Goals? Dumb for a midfielder. Appearances? Unfair given the squad size and injury rate. If performance-based pay was viable it would be adopted by every big club in Europe by now.

I'd imagine its stats/data-based considering how big Boehly's group is on data. They've probably already explained to the players that have signed these deals what sort of indicators they expect. In regards to injuries, there are probably exceptions similar to an education system where students can redo a test if they get sick/injured. Or you aren't assessed at work while you have time off.

I don't think this style of a contract is perfect but its definitely better than giving players fat contracts. If it works out at Chelsea, I won't be surprised if other clubs follow suit since player wages have become a concern for many clubs. Almost everyone one has that one player receiving a large amount of money that doesn't match their performance levels.

Sounds like a big one is the teams performance, I.e if we fail to make CL spots wages go down, if we are in it they go up

He'd be Muller's replacement who's played less this year. He'd also be ahead of Gnabry and Sane in one of the hybrid 10 roles behind Mane up top. Musiala and Mount behind Mane wins the CL again.

Muller missed games because he had an hip injury, when he has been fit he is still effective (4 goals & 7 assists in 14 starts). Tuchel knows better as a German than to sign a foreigner to bench a Bayern legend in his final season. Sorry but comparing Mount to either Gnabry or even Sane is wild, he is levels below. Gnabry has 33 league goals in the last 3 seasons, good luck benching him. Bayern are more likely to sign the wonder kid Florian Wirtz from Leverkusen if they need a player with such a profile.

£300k? Didn’t City laugh Sterling out of the club for demanding £300k/w+? He isn’t getting that City with Ruben Dias on £175k/w. The Real Madrid links were wild IMO, Madrid had Hakimi who is a better WB & sold him becos there were doubts he could play in a back 4. Madrid also have stopped with the daft wages becos they have been burnt several times. Vinicius Jnr is on £185k/w, so James definitely isn’t getting that. Any potential buyer would be wary of scary injury record; prior to this season he was missing 30% of games, this season it has gone up to 55%. You would be crazy to give a player missing half of your games £300k/w.

City would easily give James £300k p/w. They are paying Grealish around that amount right now who hasn't had the cleanest medical record and has only recently managed to get into their regular starting team. Sterling was already on around the same wages when he signed an extension to his City contract few years ago. Sterling chose to leave City. It wasn't down to the money he was demanding why City let him go. He left because he wanted more game time. He is on slightly better terms that he was on at City, not a huge deal greater. Sterling, KDB and Grealish were there highest earners before Haaland came.

Muller can be slowly phased out, if Mount is outperforming him the fans won't care. Mount would easily hit those numbers in the Bundesliga, this is the same Gnabry that couldn't break into the West Brom team, while Mount was performing week in week out in the Prem at the same age. Look at Sancho's numbers in the Bundesliga compared to the Premier league, look at Havertz. Mount would absolutely flourish in such a weak league.

C’mon Gnabry was 19 at that point. What do I know; Mount has 3 goals & 5 assists in 25 starts in the CL, while Gnabry has 14 goals & 8 assists in 24 starts in the same competition.

Mount isn’t moving to the Bundesliga, English players don’t stray away from the Premiership. The Bellingham’s & Sancho’s only move to foreign leagues for game time but (will) eventually move back to the PL.

Mount is better than the Bundesliga anyway, he doesn't need to hide in that pathetic league to stat pad. He'll likely go Liverpool and we'll sit here regretting it for the next 8 seasons too. He's a far better player than Gnabry too. Sane i could have half agreed with, but Gnabry is fundamentally flawed as a player, especially if Tuchel plays a back 3.

If we are being prudent makes zero sense to be going after Felix when Nkunku plays the same role, & coming in the summer. With a £120m net loss on the books, it will be madness & typical Boehly to sell Mount for £50m just to buy Felix for £80m, & stick him on £250k/w without European football.

Felix may be imperfect but at least he;s fit. The last thing we want in my opinion is another regularly injured star player. We already have a team of them.

Very true. Fitness in itself is a "skill" that is as important as anything else, if not more. You can be the best player in the world but if you are always injured then what's the point !

That is a great question. Midfielders aren’t really selected for their individual performance per se but for how they make their team perform. Maybe defensive midfielders are different but your box to box midfielder whether it’s xavi or ballack or Kante or de bruyne are harder to pin down in terms of stats.

Nkunku is 25 years old and missed 17 games through injury

Mount is 24 years old and missed 13 games through injury

Felix is 23 years old and missed 35 games through injury

I genuinely can't see a single reason why anyone would rather have Felix in their squad over Mount or Nkunku.

I read it as comparing to James, Kante, Pulisic, Kovacic, Fofana etc etc ... players we have already, who are on big money and are seemingly always injured.

Possibly so, I just saw the message he was replying to referencing Nkunku, Mount and Felix

Fair enough.

This is what I honed in on :

The last thing we want in my opinion is another regularly injured star player. We already have a team of them

That can't relate to Nkunku as he doesn't play for us yet 🙂

Nor has he seen our beautiful treatment room either, I hear it is all the rage as many of our players are regular patrons...

Still think Felix only makes sense if Havertz leaves.

It's quite the conundrum isn't it ? Mount, Felix, Nkunku, Havertz, Chukwuemeka is at least two too many of similar players for essentially the same position.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out ...

  • Does Nkunku come ?  (I still don't see why that wouldn't have been announced on our side yet if it was as done a deal as is made out - we did it with Gusto, why not Nkunku ?),
  • Do we sign Felix permanently ?
  • Does Mount sign his contract or is he going to get sold ?
  • What happens with Havertz flirting with Bayern ?
  • Does Chukwuemeka feature in Potter's thinking ?

If it is two from Mount, Felix, Nkunku, Havertz then it's a tough all ... none of them are 100% compelling as it stands. You could argue logically for any two from the four and not be considered unreasonable ...

I imagine they are waiting until the end of the season to announce him officially, since he’s supposed to be a big deal for us

Or it could be another Nabil Fekir situation where after his most recent medical (knee injury) we pull out.

After all, only a pre-contract was signed.
